I remember seeing this video when he played during the Mandatory Tour in 2015. It played while he was changing costumes. Still a great night to remember.

One of the greatest movies of all time. Being in a band program at two different high schools as well as being in the percussion section really made this something so captivating and personal. Watching "Whiplash" led me to watch "The Spectacular Now" which I found on KZbin for free. Another great Miles Teller movie. The kid has potential.

Awesome, I somehow don't doubt this is what happens behind the scenes. By the way, Weird Al is 56, and Simmons is 61, both of them look fantastic.

DId anyone get the Maniac McGee reference (which Al once narrated) @ 3:14? I may be reading into this a bit too much, but McGee is playing baseball for the first time with some bullies, and takes a break after the 1st inning because the bullies say he isn't good enough to play. One of the bullies, Mars-Bar, takes a bite out of his bar and hands it to McGee. "Hey. Ya wanna prove ya got guts? Eat this. I dare ya!" Mcgee takes the bar by the unbitten end... And chomps off a big piece, then handing it back. "Hey, you wanna bite?"

Geoffrey Precht There are actually much worse Weird Al songs to have lost your virginity to. This is one of the better ones actually, being that it is a spiritual parody of Closer by NiN

The great thing about this is Weird Al's performance here perfectly exposes the insanity and unrealism of Simmons' character. This isn't how real musicians get work done, and thus Weird Al is completely losing his mind trying to play to this dude's fiddle.

I had a great seat, too. Row U, seat 13. I was on the outside of the rows, so he high-fived me. I actually almost cried. Should I mention that I'm a 17 year old? He was one of my childhood heroes, man.

Whiplash should have won the academy award over Birdman.... Weird Al always wins my heart. Al wasn't even in Whiplash... It still should have won.
@mikedalvano33898 жыл бұрын
I concur. Saw them both. I vaguely remember what Birdman was about. I was enthralled and moved by Whiplash. Probably because I have some Nieman in me. I wouldn't have taken the abuse part of things, but often in my life (sports mostly) I performed best to "shutup" or prove wrong my coach. It's just what fueled me. Whiplash also has a very good debate centered around it. In the end, if you had to pick a winner, did Nieman or Fletcher actually win? Sure, Nieman showed who is boss. But was it simply because of what Fletcher did? All though clearly not effective for all, it could be argued that Fletcher did what is necessary to create one of the greatest drummers of all time. Before someone says "his solo wasn't that great" (I always get that) it is a movie where they can't actually make the greatest solo ever. It's supposed to represent that.

You like Whiplash more because you can relate to it better, not because it had superior cinematography, writing, acting, etc. Though the academy awards are rigged, Birdman was definitely superior in those aspects.
@shaneg90818 жыл бұрын
Birdman had superior cinematography, I freely admit that. Writing not so much. Acting, no. Whiplash definitely had better acting than Birdman. Norton was great in Birdman, Simmons was greater in Whiplash. Miles Teller was also better than Keaton.

It's all subjective. The Oscars that year were tough to call, but i think Birdman deserved to win. Its a masterpiece.
@everythingisawesome29037 жыл бұрын
Birdman is probably the worst movie to ever won an Oscar. Yes, I agree Whiplash should have won that. Infact, anything was better than Birdman in the best movie category that year

Wow such a shame almost no one has heard of Whiplash. I strongly recommend everyone watch it, one of my favorite movies of all time. You're pretty much on the edge of your seat all the way through, and the ending..... best ending to a movie I've seen in a while. The trailers don't do it much justice, but I guarantee you'll love it. JK Simmons and Miles Teller are absolutely superb.
