I can see why they chose Daniel Radcliffe for this role as he and Al have the same energy. Both are very subdued and restrained until you talk to them, and then there is this bubbling energy and creative passion that just comes out and suddenly they're gesticulating wildly with their whole body and going off about whatever topic you just brought up on a long and winding tangent.

I got to play live with him... as a busker outside of the WA State Fair where he was playing inside, I was outside playing along. He doesn't know it, but I do. I've played with dozens of great bands and performers, and Al is a much better musician than he's giving credit for. It was an honor to play along.

Weird Al and The Radcliffe Entity are both absolute legends and I sincerely hope that this co-operative effort of theirs finishes what Walk Hard started, and finally drives a stake through the heart of the entire genre of the paint-by-numbers celebrity musician biopic, as Airplane! once did for the aircraft disaster genre. I am definitely going to watch this movie.

I still remember in 1990 when i was 10, my mom got me in to meet Weird Al while his hairdresser was getting him ready for a show backstage. He wackily spun around in his chair, and acted like he was so happy to see me, then signed a personalized autograph. Talk about a super nice guy.

I had to laugh at Seth's story about hearing "Eat It" on the radio for the first time and thinking, "this changes everything," because I had the exact same experience except with "Like a Surgeon." My friends and I stopped what we were doing, stopped talking, and just listened. I still remember where we were standing on the playground with a 1980s boom box when the song came on.

And his material has aged so much better than many other 80's comics such as Andrew Dice Clay, Bobcat Goldthwaite and Michael Winslow. Sometimes the songs are remembered more for Al's parodies than for the originals. Although I can't think of an example where that's true so I'm probably just too high to have a fully functioning brain. It's Sunday, I'm not religious. So I get high. I feel your judgement. It will justify me getting even higher. Thanks.

The return of true deadpan comedy... Who knew Daniel and Al would be the Mel Brooks and Leslie Nielsen of our generation...
@Phaota2 жыл бұрын
I did not expect to find this an instant hit IMO. Having Daniel play him was not someone I would have recommended, but it works perfectly. Everything in this comedy is a parody of reality and Al's life. There are some elements of truth from his past mixed in, though bent in a "weird" way, as expected. Characters are total opposites of their real life personas, situations exaggerated to great heights, logic out the window, etc. But it is the underlying parody element of famous movie scenes that make this a step up in Al's comedic styling. It's one thing to parody songs, but to do a Zucker Brothers approach in selecting well-known scenes from classic films, then making them part of the story with crazy dialog, though still staying truthful to the original scene emotions and acting (even with nearly the same music), is a stroke of genius. You feel the recognition of the scene, and can see it in your mind with the original actors (like Robert De Niro), but unless you know those movies by heart, it's difficult to remember what film the scene comes from. You just know it, which causes laughs at the absurdity of parody to that particular segment. Another amazing element was the incorporation of song lyrics into the dialog and using his various songs for story parts, like his father being Amish and creating the great "Amish Paradise" tune. It was also fun to see the various actor cameos playing famous movie personalities. Like Emo Philips as Salvador Dali, Conan O'Brien as Andy Warhol and Jack Black as Wolfman Jack. They were all perfect. I highly recommend this, even if you are not a huge fan of Al.
