The best thing about this song: Al not only parodied the song, but he kept the words to the right rhythm, cadence, and syllable count. To do that so precisely, following the song like this, while replacing every single word to fit like this, really shows off Al's mastery of the English language.

I remember when this song came out I was so excited that it explained the proper way to use it’s. I had actually spent close to a year arguing with someone at work about which version was possessive and which was a contraction (pre-smartphones and the ability to simply Google everything). Even though I hadn’t seen the guy in years it was nice to feel validated. 🤣🤣

25 years ago, I was mocked for liking Weird Al. I love watching Reaction videos of people seeing him for the first time. The two things I see him praised for is his rapping skills, and his ability to learn different styles of music. There's one reaction that I haven't seen from you yet. Al's first instrument was the accordion, and he learned to play polkas initially. On each album he includes a medley of songs rewritten as a polka. I highly recommend checking those out.

One of the things I love most about Weird Al is that he's so genuine. A friend of mine met him in Ocean City Maryland, and they got to talking. Weird Al told my friend that he was having computer issues, and since my friend is an IT wizard, he volunteered to help. Without hesitation, Weird Al invited him back to the hotel where he was staying, and my friend fixed the problem. They have been friends ever since. Whenever Weird Al comes to town, he calls my friend and gives him tickets and a back stage pass so that they can hang out for a while. I love that Weird Al is a real person, and that he doesn't let celebrity change who he is. He is still the geek that recorded a song in the bathroom. He never forgets his roots. And he is definitely a genius.

Al got 'heat' from Coolio for Amish Paradise. It was a whole thing and is actually an interesting study for those of you into law, from the path it took. I forget what song it was that he wanted to parody after that and (the symbol previously known as) Prince said no, and Weird Al didn't make the song out of respect and a decent conversation (keep in mind, this was when Al was an up-and-comer) This quick jab means so much more now, huh?

@CyberKultist I wonder if Prince regretted that decision later on. He’s not really known for being able to laugh at himself but still. I can see him needing to approve the final draft before recording begins, but given control over anything he didn’t like then I could see it happening.

On top of this he is very kind, respectful and humble. He works with the musicians in his band since day one. On his 1979’s tv appearance for “Another one rides the bus”, the guy behind Al that is making the cartoonish sounds while banging the acordeon case is his band’s actual drummer and they all work together after all these years. While on tour, Al always makes sure everyone had comfortable checked in the hotel wherever this might be and he sleeps in the tour bus. He’s an amazing person

I've said it for years, but there's a reason Weird Al is great as a rapper. He is trained mostly in polka. Polka, if you have ever listened to it, really is white people's rap. Good polka can be spontaneous, witty, jabbing, or any other energy and it has a lot of the same energy as any freestyle rap battle (just a bit cornier but that's fun too). Anyway, Weird Al is awesome, and I love this one. Thanks for your awesome reaction to another of his songs.

For going with my suggestion, I'll tell you that Weird Al got his career started in 1976 after being 'discovered' by rather eccentric radio host named 'Dr. Demento'. As for where Al was discovered, it was recording 'Another One Rides The Bus' (a parody of Queen's Another Bites The Dust), using the tile walls of the mensroom at a local college as his personal studio. The two had a battle of wits and Demento liked Al so much that he got Al a spot on his show. From there, he's done well over 10 albums (14,to be exact) and only recently hit the #1 billboard album with the 2014 best-selling album, Mandatory Fun. He's been nominated for 16 Grammys, won 5.

He's awesome!!! Love this reaction! I have used Weird Al during a road trip to entertain two preteen boys...they would watch the original video (if appropriate), then they would watch the parody. They LOVED it!! I loved that they would compare and contrast the songs (and how much they learned from Weird Al). 🙂🙂🙂

I remember when Prince's video came out in the late 80s with this format, words appearing on the screen in random fonts as he sang them, and using numbers for letters and words, U for you, all that stuff. It was revolutionary and we all thought it was amazingly innovative. Because it was - it was Prince.

Who thinks of this? ME! My friends actually made me a t-shirt and cap with 'Grammar Police' in bold letters while in high school. I'm extremely ADHD and dyslexic, but found my place in the structure of language. When this song came out, I cheered and shared it everywhere - and then was blocked from a few places *lol*! Aren't we thankful he went this route instead of using his architecture degree? Thanks for the smile, brother! I just stumbled onto your Weird Al playlist and it's truly making my Saturday night brighter. Much love and appreciation to your excellent reaction videos :)

I rarely get to call anyone out on improper pronoun usage and the like, because I get hung up attempting to correct them on whether to use "saw" or "seen", and saying "He and I", instead of "Me and Him". Some individuals get defensive, but, most act dismissive, because just about everyone they know talks the same way they do, so it must be right. Very few are appreciative. Lol, you would think that people would want to be grammatically correct, but, alas, you can't expect much when you hear authority figures, including teachers and principals saying, "I seen....".

I am a linguist. Those verb changes like I be doing something or mine's be are part of black English which has valid consistent meaning, normal language changes. That's why them nurses be talking like that. It's not ignorance, it's just not the queen's English. The participle drop is common, I seen instead of I have seen is simplification of form. You may not like it but it happens. Aint used to be the correct use of it's not but now it aint.
