I once heard a teaching that one of the gods the Ninevites worshipped was a fish god. Therefore, if one of them had witnessed Jonah emerging from a fish/whale onto their shores, it would have given much more weight to the message he brought. I can see God being that cool.

Listening to this podcast has convinced me we should rename the story of "Jonah and the Great Fish" to "Jonah and the Great Audacity" Jonah is like the most relatable prophet; ready to just exit the game of life at the slightest inconvenience.

Maybe God picks those who don't want the job because he figures they'll be motivated to get the job over with and not hang around trying to milk it forever. After all those who desire leadership roles tend to be prone to corruption to hang onto their position forever.

1:23:28 I know there's a really slim chance of any of you reading this but I actually think you're misreading this for a lot of the reasons that most of us do. It's because it's what we were all taught by veggie tales and sunday school. If you actually read the text of Jonah (I went in and did so as a result of listening to this podcast) it doesn't seem to me like he was afraid of going to ninevah. It's explicitly not mentioned anywhere in the book even though they were incredibly wicked. The first mention of Jonah's Motivations comes from Jonah 4 where he basically said "I knew you were gonna save these guys, it's the whole reason I didn't want to go." He makes it suuuuper clear that he literally didn't want to do it because he knew they'd repent and god would save them and he didn't think they should be given grace. He literally doesn't do it because he knows how good God's love is and doesn't want to love the same way.

I think the comparison of Jonah's repentance inside the whale and him talking about his arrogance, compared to how he behaves during the gourd-leaf scene, it is a show of how even if a person repents a fault, they can be prone to repeat that fault - that sin - again.

I have a story from when I was a child that my parents told me that is extremely similar to 2:14:52. I was too young to remember when my great grandmother died (I think I was around 2 years old). Apparently, though, before my parents had even told me what happened, I was sitting in my car seat while we drove somewhere and pointed out the window. I confidently said, "Look! It's Great Grandma!" When they asked where, I pointed up at the sky, started waving, and said "Bye Grandma!" Pretty wild!

Excellent Podcasts, awesome in the sea of misinformation, they've helped pull me closer to God and cleared up some misconceptions I had. Round central Virginia there seems to be only a couple types of Pastors. They either think everyone is going to hell for daring to smoke cigarettes/any human mistakes you make post salvation; or they have no kinda standards and have a Wicca "Do as you want but don't hurt anyone" energy.

i was raised christian and i now don’t consider myself christian, but still believe in one true God as an overarching power and creator and i believe in the historical context of the bible. i don’t currently identify with any religion in particular but i don’t consider myself an atheist. although i no longer associate with christianity much, i still enjoy learning about the bible and watching content like this (especially of wendigoon’s) to gain a deeper understanding of christianity that i was not taught. the more accurately i learn about the bible, the more i become open to the idea of considering myself christian again. however, i don’t want to openly label myself as that because i disagree with a lot of what the bible teaches and with the ways that a lot of christians act (i lean more in democratic beliefs). anyways, i was wondering why you see the belief that you can “do what you want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone” as wrong. from a christian perspective, i understand not agreeing with wicca/paganism, but personally i can’t see how that belief can really be disagreed with, even from a biblical perspective. just curious :)
@Blinkin71A
@Blinkin71A Жыл бұрын
@@lovrboi It's mostly a difference in our perception. As a Christian, I think we aren't meant to do as we will, we're meant to follow God's Will to the best of our abilities. We simply rebel, often, and God has granted us the freedom to make that choice. The veneration of Human Will without humbling to the Divine leads to some of the worst aspects of humanity revealing themselves. History is full of examples. The definition of harm is also important, because I view many of the things that you probably view as not harmful, as harmful, and vice versa I'd imagine. I think humans have shown a lot less overall humanity and kindness to their fellow men in societies that don't actively push the "Good" in the Universe. To have morality it needs to be clearly defined, otherwise humans will "Do As They Will", and often what they will is Power and Greed.

A “pagan” has no common ground with you? There’s no earth science in your Bible? They they worship nature? Is that why Christianity and Judaism refuse to iuse the bibelical economy? Because it treated the ground as good as its people, sabbaths and all. Also, Ifn daddy was a drunk and lost the land to vice, it’s birthright, Jubilee, back to its people. Haha, try selling that to a religious folk bent on profit.

My view on animal souls is that either way, I'll see them again in heaven. Because if they don't have souls, then God can recreate them for me; if they do, they never had the chance to be saved, or reached a condition where they could comprehend the good or evil of their actions (reaching the age of accountability, for humans), so they'll go to heaven. Either way, I'll see them again.

The watchers werent entirely heavenly spirits but earth spirits aswell they had physical bodies much like man. The other angels did not have physical bodies but spiritual bodies. Spirits generally can't impregnate a physical body as far as I'm aware thats an ability reserved for God, and or the holy spirit. That would be my guess as to the difference between them.

If you don't know, there's an excellent nonprofit called Wycliffe Bible Translators who dispatch people to different countries to help in Bible translation efforts. It's fascinating and also sad that there are still so many languages that don't yet have a Bible translation, so anything we can do to support translation efforts is good in my opinion.
