Secular humanism has infiltrated every foundation of our culture including higher entertainment, so that's a factor, but another factor is also how rigid and unadaptive us Christians have been, when it comes to spreading God's word. If we return to our intellectual, mystical and spiritual roots, like our super smart ancestors who shaped modern Western civilization, we'll be able to gain a lot of ground. Remember, we have an advantage that they will never be able to take away or utilize themselves, despite their best attempts to make Christianity out to be a shallow myth by generalizing all of our ancestors as dumb primitives, we have thousands of years of inertia and intellectual and spiritual thought to draw from. I also think this is why figures like Bishop Robert Barron, Jordan Peterson and William Lane Craig are becoming so popular amongst young men now, who are, by the way, kind of converting back to faith despite being young. Society's screaming out for intellectual and spiritual depth in this culture of nihilism, hedonism and mindless entertainment and pleasure, let's give it to them!

That's literally what St. John says at the end of his Gospel, it would be impractical to write everything. In the later writings of the 20th century mystic Maria Valtorta a lot more detail is given. Mystics fill in the details, these are officially termed private revelations and the Church approves them in as much as they aren't heretical and possess sufficient proof to be worthy of religious faith.

There is a pretty cool theory on the pronunciation of YHWH. It is often pronounced as YaHWeH, most likely because us humans seem to have a preference for vowels. However, some scholars and Rabi’s have come to notice that the letters YHWH represent the sounds of breathing. When pronounced without intervening vowels it sounds very similar to breathing. YH (inhale): WH (exhale). This could be the reason that it’s considered unspeakable because it is intended to be breathed instead of spoken. So that would mean from our first breath to our last that we are speaking the name of God. God has also given us breath so that would mean that this is a constant reminder that we are alive because of God. He is our breath of life, our life sustaining power.
@bigol92239 ай бұрын
I find it interesting how if we were to pronounce it with vowels, Yeshua and Jehova could be considered the same word in slightly different accents, such as might evolve within the same language over the course of a few thousand years. I don't think I've ever heard anyone discuss this.

This is one of the most interesting descriptions and breakdowns of The Bible I've ever listened to. I grew up protestant Christian, I'm an atheist now, and we did have an excellent, eloquent, well-educated, well-read, studious pastor. He was a great public speaker, he explored and explained in depth every verse of The Bible, but somehow you're better than his best sermons that I can recall. I've seen your video explaining the angels in depth, and now I'm really looking forward to the next video where you focus on a Biblical topic. I do appreciate how you vocalize you're a Christian and yet you don't make your content preachy or missionary at all. Thank you for your style of content creation.
@trentitybrehm510515 күн бұрын
I was an atheist too, and I just want to share the evidence that convinced me it was all true: We have the writing of the disciples of the Apostles and the disciples of those disciples, and they not only quote much of the New Testament, but all the core idea of Christianity are present. Jesus being God, the Son of God, dying for sins, burial, resurrection, ascension to heaven. We also have writing of Jewish and Pagan contemporary historians who were hostile towards Jesus, who say the same things : Jesus being worshiped as God, the Son of God, dying on the cross, burial, resurrection. The archeology matches the Bible perfectly all the way from Genesis through the New Testament. It's mainly because of the archeology, "friendly" writers, and "hostile" writers mentioned above that the Jesus Seminar, who are PhD level ashiest/agnostics who study Christ and the Bible, concluded that Jesus really lived in Judea 2,000 years ago, was known as a miracle workers, died on the cross under Pilate, and that his disciples really believed they had seen him risen from the dead. The fact that there are contradictions between manuscripts is often sited as proof against trusting scripture, when it actually does the opposite. The fact that there are so many manuscripts makes it easy to tell when someone changed one, and modern Bibles are transparent about any differences in the footnotes. Over 5,000 manuscripts in the original Greek and 20,000 in other languages. None of those differences found between manuscripts change anything about any core doctrines of Christianity, they are mainly a handwriting error on a letter or a different way to word something that means the same thing. There is 99.5% accuracy between the manuscripts according to scholars. There is also all the undersigned coincidence between not only the four Gospels, but the rest of the New and Old Testaments too. Matthew 2:22 talks about Joseph not wanting to return to Judea after fleeing to Egypt because Archelaus was ruling. That's all the info on that the Bible gives. Josephus, the Jewish historian, tells us about the things Archelaus did and how evil he was. Put these two pieces of evidence together, we get the full picture. This sort of thing happens through the text with the seemingly useless details matching up perfectly with extra Biblical sources, lending to the credibility of the text. The Apostles willingness to be killed; not for saying they believed Jesus had risen, but they knew he had risen, because they saw him. If the tomb wasn't empty, they would've paraded the body around to stomp out any idea of Jesus being resurrected, but Christianity spread because there was no body in the tomb. If someone stole the body, why were nearly all the Apostles willing to be killed for saying they'd seen Jesus risen? They were thousands of miles away from one another before phones and the internet and were being threaten, tortured, and murdered for their claim. Not one "broke" and said it was a lie to save themselves. It's because of the evidence that I believe in Jesus

@0liv3r97 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's very true. An interesting rule of thumb is that if a name ends with -el, it is almost guaranteed to be of Hebrew origin and probably comes from the bible. There are many examples, such as: Daniel, Nathanael Michael, Ariel, Isabel, Emmanuel and so on. I'm sure you can come up with lots more names to add to that list.
@emilybarclay8831 Жыл бұрын
My name is one of the few traditional (ie not one of the recent made up names like Neveah) names that isn’t biblical, it’s Roman, but girls have less biblical names because so many traditional girls names are plants or months. But like 90% of names in English speaking nations are either directly from or a diminutive of a biblical name because people used to just open the book and pick a name of a biblical figure because when you have 13 kids and half of them are gonna die anyway you put less effort into the naming thing

Really interesting note on the JHVH or YHWH name of God. I’ve done a lot of research on this because it fascinates me and some of the most prominent Hebrew scholars actually think that this wasn’t an attempt at recording a Hebrew name but the recording of a sound. In proto-Hebrew the pronunciation of the YHWH name of God has a shockingly close resemblance to the sound of breathing! First inhale, then exhale. Meaning that the name of God is life itself and the breath that living things take is how it is pronounced.

@Mr.MoneyBags1 Жыл бұрын
@@lalonguecarabine4952 while you’d be right that there isn’t a “J” in Hebrew, we’re not really dealing with modern Hebrew. We’re in a much older writing system called Proto-Hebrew or sometimes called late Phoenician. In that writing system, there actually is a “J” equivalent letter “Iamed” that corresponds to an “I” in modern Ashurit script. It’s shaped like a backwards English “J” which could be used as shorthand when abbreviating this spelling. Similar to the Latin pronunciation, scholars believe it was pronounced closer to a “y” sound than a “J”.

The sad truth is it only takes an encounter with someone from that small, but loud and violent niche to ruin someone's perception of a community. That's true for ANY community, ESPECIALLY in 2021 where the vacuum chamber social medias have emboldened the maniacs and promoted a culture of never self-policing your faction for them to stomp out extremism before those maniacs strike out at someone.

I had a religion teacher my freshman year at my catholic school who literally changed my perspective in the Bible and Christianity. He talked about the stuff you said like the misinterpretations and things in the Bible that I never thought about. Imagine a bunch of Christian school girls learning about what angels really looked like or some of the actual truths in the Bible. It was really cool and he was an awesome teacher shout out to him!

@orionthehunter2173 жыл бұрын
@@Tanuki-cl7qi No, only eclectic weirdos like it, most people would be put off. The reason that churches don't talk about what the Bible actually says, and instead cherry pick it to support a modern self-help paradigm, is because the Bible is full of crazy stuff that eventually makes you go, "well, huh..... I don't think that actually happened." These stories were more applicable to the cultures that created them. To modern ears they sometimes sound completely off the wall. But self-help is a thriving industry where a lot of money can be made because so many people have undiagnosed mental health issues. Start reading about Shrek's talking donkey, though, and that throws a monkey wrench into what they're trying to sell you. Eventually you go from "the Bible is perfect" to "the Bible is good" to "the Bible is useful" to "the Bible is historical" to "the Bible served as a great literary literary work and propaganda for the early Hebrew people and helped them preserve their oral tradition." This is why you have to go seek out information about the lesser known areas of Christianity, they don't teach it in churches because it doesn't actually sell. It's a bad business model to base your religion on Apocalypse. Just look at the homeless preachers in the subway stations, they haven't figured out that 'self help' angle yet; if they did they could be living in glass megachurches and flying in private jets too.

@@orionthehunter217 No? Just, like, no? Prosperity gospel teachers, sure, but I haven't ever gone to a church like what you described. Regarding Judas, I like the theory that he was an accelerationist revolutionary. This states that Judas saw Jesus as King of the Jews, who had come to free them from the Romans, and literally conquer them. He grew impatient and sold Jesus out, not for the money, but to force his hand against Rome. When Jesus let himself be arrested and killed, it shattered everything Judas believed, so he took his own life.

That's an interesting theory. Despite the fact that Jesus said he would not overthrow the Romans by way of the sword, many of his followers were violent zealots who wanted to go to war with Rome.

Disagree, it implies that Jesus was unable to control his own powers and made an accident. That goes against the claims in Scripture of him being perfect. To the other commenter about "it's like when the woman touched his robe" he meant to do that too, I don't see where you get the idea that it wasn't intentional. He even specifically says to her that "your faith has made you well," it wasn't the touch.
