@minisarge26193 жыл бұрын
Yeah. My personal headcannon is that the nighttime version of order 66 is how a traumatized, unconsious Kanan is remembering these events. He's an unreliable narrator. Most likely the bonding campfire moment happens the night before and he "superimposed" order 66 on top. If he blocked the memories and also drank them away, then it's likely he'd not remember the bad batch, who were only there for 10 mins.

@Joshua White That's fair. Narratively, it doesnt make a lot of sense. His story had already been told (better, admittedly) and he's dead. He's gone through his arc. If anything, I expected a wanted poster. From a production standpoint, it's the smartest choice. A random padawan (an adult wouldn't have been as sympathetic) wouldn't have been as effective, people who haven't seen Rebels are going to want to know what happens to that kid and have a bunch of material to consume, and most importantly, they already have the rigged models from season 7 (which take FOREVER to make and there was no way they were just going to use them for a half a second cameo). That's probably also why her saber is blue, I realized nobody has a green one on season 7 either. However, it doesn't mean I didn't immediately flip the moment I saw Bilaba (Kanan is actually my favorite character), I knew immediately that we were going to get a soft retcon like we did in season seven, but I was excited to see both of them and Bilaba was an opportunity for South Asian representation, so I checked the voice actor afterward. Still, the scene hits hard, Kanan's distrust is justified (did you see the way his saber was shaking?) and he's out of there, presumably to follow some trajectory closer to the comic and meet Kasmir.

We can agree to disagree. Both versions were underwhelming in my opinion, and this one seemed more realistic to the Clone Wars type of aesthetic. And remember the backlash that S7 of TCW had after the Ahsoka novel was ret conned last year...or at least half of it was. Literally nothing from her getting her sabers back to the Siege of Mandalore to Order 66 was the same in the show as it was in the book. And yet everyone enjoyed the show version more, and barely anyone complained about how it “ruined the book” (except for a few YT videos here and there for a few weeks). As that issue passed, this one too shall pass, and we’ll look back on the show for what it is as opposed to what it could have been. Also, making it Depa and Kanin was entirely fan service...it could have been any Jedi and still gone the same, so blame the Disney/Lucas Film higher ups for this decision.

If they had done it like the comics at least half of the first episode would have been entirely dedicated to kanan even though it's supposed to be about the bad batch, and the first episode of a show needs to predominantly feature the main characters so we can get to know them better. I think you've just picked up on the fact Disney doesn't give too much validity to the comics just as LucasFilm did the same before the buyout. The same with the novels as season 7 rewrote parts of the Ahsoka book. Once more we're back to primary canon and secondary canon with comics and novels being a less official source of info.

Dave Filoni made the character (Kanan/ Caleb) so in my opinion it’s only right that he got to tell the story for how he experienced order 66 in the way he imagined it. He wouldn’t have used those two Jedi here unless it’s how he wanted it to be.

@brendonhughes87433 жыл бұрын
@@desmonlee0279 one of the only issues I hold with Star Wars is that they’ll let anyone put anything out there prior to considering whether it might need to be used in a film or tv show first. I get why they let the comic be written in the first place but Filoni should’ve gotten first dibs to finish that story not a comic at Marvel. It’s canon now so I’m not concerned with the comic.

While I agree with which variation of Caleb's/Depa's order 66 was better, this isn't the Caleb and Depa show its the bad batch. That would take up an enorumus amount of time to establish the context and emotion, so I think they did a decent job.
@H1ydra3 жыл бұрын
if that battalion is red they would blend in with the bad batch a little because of them being red? probably why they changed it?
@TheBlackBrickStudios3 жыл бұрын
It works better in the comic than the show because they were from two different perspectives. The Kanan comic was meant to illustrate heartbreak and betrayal felt in the moment of Order 66, the show was from an outsider’s perspective, the Bad Batch being not too particularly loyal to either Jedi or ‘regs’, it was supposed to build confusion and unease, gently easing the viewer into this distrustful relationship between the main characters and their changing circumstance. Each are effective in their own right, but they exist in two different scenarios. Comparing specific scenes to other scenes is like comparing apples to oranges, they will have different meanings when taken as parts of a whole. The whole of Bad Batch episode 1 worked as a great piece of escalating tension, which wouldn’t have worked so strongly if the inciting incident for said tension held more weight than the episode’s climax. The Kanan series was driven by that emotional weight, which needed to be there.

@Xdo12 he's usually talkin to the commander, which is mostly a leadership strategist role, things would have to be going pretty bad for them to die It would take a while for him to personally contact every Commander and then say "Commander _____________ the time has come, Execute Order 66" Like at least 10ish minutes But when Order 66 happens it is always portrayed as happening all at the same time So maybe on his computer he has a tab with a list of all current Clone Commanders I don't think he would have to worry about interference from the separatists as he's the one playing both sides and it was near the end of the war

I own that comic series and I love it, so when I saw Depa Billaba on screen, I was bracing myself because I thought I knew what was going to happen, but... yeah it kind of fell flat. The scene right after her death with Hunter and Crosshair In the woods, looking for Caleb, that was really tense and really well done. Hunter assuming Crosshair was helping him save the kid, and Crosshair assuming Hunter was helping him execute the kid. It was just Billaba's death itself that really lost the emotional punch that it should have had for me.

Great point. That is the sole reason the episode “shattered” in clone wars always pulls on my heart strings. We had several year’s several seasons of the clone wars. Year and years of bonding between the clones and Jedi to then in a moment as little as a heartbeat that is all thrown away. Here we get a couple minutes of knowing each other then bam the order. I love Bad Batch and i think it’s great! But you’re right I had not seen that point of view but it is indeed a sight to see.

My guess for the change was that having the original comic story would’ve taken more time to animate possibly, and that there might’ve been a limit on how long the episode was supposed to run for. However, the changes to the clone troopers’ armors, from red to green, doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Perhaps it was to distinguish them from the coruscant guard?

There’s one difference between bad batch and the rest, the point of view, episode 3: from the Jedi, clone wars: the Jedi, fallen order: the Jedi.... bad batch: the clones, in this case they aren’t the targets but are just as confused . You can still imagine that powerful moment between Kannan and the clones the night before

Well, the main problem isn't wich version is better, the problem is that they literally become the thing they swore to destroy. When they established canon they said such things won't happen, they said now every story will have an equal value, but it seems like Dave doesn't give a shit, and it wasn't the first time either. But at least than it was acceptable, but now it was completely pointless, the scene could have been even better with a random jedi and their padawan. And canon is just a few years old and there are at least 3 contradictions lile this, imagine what will happen in the next 10 years? We will have a hierarchy in canon like in legends, than what was the point of canon? That's the problem with this.

I like this version, of the Kanan stories, a bit more. 1) I can just assume that most Jedi’s and Pasadena’s had a great relationship with their clone troops, especially ones already established as having a great relationship. 2) this version of it does more for how Kanan feels about clones when we meet him in Rebels. With it just happen ending suddenly and without warning and he has to just watch as his friends gun down his master quickly and without warning...I feel that’s more scarring. Which is why he hated Rex and the other clones so badly. He’s been living with that short moment of, “everything is fine...my master is dead!” for all this time.

If they put the bonding scene, (or a bonding scene of some kind), at the start of the episode with everything playing out the exact same way as before, I think it would have made the order 66 scene even better. I would’ve personally liked to see Caleb, his master, and the clones having a good time right before they have to go search for reinforcements to show the connection between them. Then once they do actually go search for reinforcements, cut to where the episode actually starts. That way it doesn’t discount the character moments of the bad batch but also amplifies the confusion Caleb is feeling during his experience. I also think that would have been a better way to endure us to the bad batch as well. But that’s how I would’ve liked to see the scene play out in my opinion.
