There is literally live video of the RPG being removed from his leg. I highly recommend looking it up. That, and hearing the soldiers talk about it make it that much scarier
If I remember correctly, the first story had a somewhat sad outcome, where I believe the flight crew was reprimanded for disobeying protocols. It's sad because they place their lives in danger each time they do a medevac, and this was more or less no difference of risk to them.
@sleepygryph Жыл бұрын
It is a sad reality that the US military is a bureaucracy and as such is enamored with "The Book". This obsession is so great that a running joke among the NATO allies is that, at a command level, the American military is inflexible and iron bound by doctrine. Those in charge would rather see their men die following "The Book" than survive and even possibly win doing something outside of it's holy rules. Naturally if someone does break a rule and expose their incompetence that individual is crushed ruthlessly by the bureaucracy, lest their actions inspire others.
@Michael-uc2pn Жыл бұрын

Obama should of stepped in as the commander in Chief and outright awarded all of those heroes the Medal of Honor.
@Tank50us Жыл бұрын
@@darthjarjar5309 yeah, that wasn't going to happen. On the subject of the regulations... the messed up thing about them is that breaking them can either end with a medal and a reprimand... or a final ride home in a box. Obviously, the men involved here had some brass balls to do what they did... but as stated repeatedly in the video... one tiny bump could have set that rocket off, and everyone would've been killed.
@Tinil0 Жыл бұрын
@@Tank50us As much as people criticize the top brass, and they DO have a lot to criticize them for to be fair, a lot of these regulations are in place because the goals on a military level and the goals of an individual level do not always align, such as in that situation. You are risking a LOT of lives to possibly save one. On a human level that's wonderful, but on a strategic level it makes no sense, it's not worth possibly losing 10+ lives and a millions of dollars of materiel to POSSIBLY save an individual. In a case like that I have no problem with what the soldiers chose to do and I have no problem with them getting a reprimand (as long as it isn't TOO harsh). Autonomy and willingness to disobey regulation is a very careful balancing act in a military, where on some level it is highly beneficial (Just look at Russia's failures on the battlefield because of it's utter lack of agency among lower level officers) but too much of it threatens to destroy the discipline and command structure.

Cool and the new then let's follow it up with the part two, with the mass amount of crimes Afghanistan and Iraq insurgents, and soldiers committed against its own people, different races, and religions.

@@senatorarmstrong6886 I think its funny how Americans actually belive that bullshit. Do you guys think you should have been in Iraq or Afganistan in the first place ? Iraq was a free and developed country before you guys fucked it up and made "insurgents" for every civilian you killed, 5 more of that persons family became "insurgents"

@@tron6121 perfect! And then we can follow it up with, Why those countries have travel bans? Prior to the Afghanistan and the Iraq War. I mean it's not like they did suicide bombings, terror attacks some places like France, Germany, places in Europe.

I remember seeing years ago in a documentary about Vietnam they showed an x-ray of an American soldier with a mortar round buried in his chest that went in through his shoulder. They were able to remove it and the lucky bugger survived.

The most absurd thing about the afghan war is that it even happened.

Yah, I recall when I was a kid in Asia they built a surgical tent in the front of the hospital, sandbags stacked all around. A helo came in and deposited a young man with a mortar in his back. Was a nervous surgery, but all went well.

Has anyone seen that video from like 4 weeks ago in the ukranian war were a Russian acp full of soldiers on top gets ambushed by ukranians and an rpg hits one of the sitting soldiers right in the chest but it doesn't detonate, he just falls dead.
@tristanbackup2536 Жыл бұрын
The way the warheads work is you need a really hard surface so the front of the RPG can be pressured into itself to denote sending an explosive charge forward. The human body is pretty squishy so it's not unheard of a rocket simply not working, simply penetrate from the sheer propellant alone.

The British Army is not chiefly to blame for the equipment and training failures that led to the Kajaki incident. The British electorate places an extraordinary portion of the people's wealth into the public sector, but chose to send their young men into combat underequipped and underprepared in combat because they chose to redistribute those resources to serve their own immediate personal interests.
@riyapatel6291 Жыл бұрын
Placed in public sector but spaffed out to their mates leaving squaddies up the same creek as doctors in bin bag PPE , I can't believe they privatised army food , housing and recruiting when I was younger
@Derna1804 Жыл бұрын
@@riyapatel6291 I can see why they would need to pinch pennies on dining facilities and barracks maintenance rather than having unionized government workers or soldiers doing the work on post. It's counter-intuitive but British soldiers are actually far overpaid considering the MoD's budget. When I was in Afghanistan, the Brits were getting paid about double our salary for their grade and they paid for it in having inferior equipment and slower rank advancement. American soldiers start getting prepared for leadership roles almost immediately and an American sergeant with three years of experience can be expected to take on responsibilities that would be reserved for someone with two to three times as much time in service in a commonwealth army.
