Weird Tech: Inno3D's Single Slot GTX 1050 Ti

It's not often that we see true single slot graphics cards these days, but the INNO3D 1-Slot GTX 1050Ti is an awesome looking GPU that reminds me of products from days gone by.
So should you buy this 75W card in 2020, or is it best left admired from a distance?

My Phoenix Low Profile 1050ti runs at 80°, so it's really not that bad .

It's a 1050 Ti, it doesn't need exotic cooling, there are even some passive cooled ones out there

I used to have an 8600GTS which was a single slot gpu like this one. it seemed like a low power laptop card since the cooler didn't even cover the whole card and the shroud felt so thin like it was cut out of an aluminium can or something. at the time it was released it was a popular SLI choice that got you similar performance to the highest end cards, even with how bad SLI scaling was back then

I have an 8800GT SSC sitting in a test rig right now - single slot. And frankly, I wish we could see more single slot cards today. Yeah, a bit louder, but frankly, I like that it leaves everything else open on the main board.

@@waldojim42 I had a PNY Quadro 4000 and that thing was literally as loud as a jet engine. It was absolutely absurd. It honestly sounded like a vacuum. And it still overheated basically 100% of the time.

@@twizz420 I never had a problem with head. I would never suggest my cards ran cool, but they were never problematically hot. Could be slight differences in how EVGA handled the power on their SC/SSC cards at the time. Or possibly case airflow factored in - as I was using the Antec 1200 case at the time and that sucker had massive airflow. Either way though, I do still miss having cards that could be run single slot.

As a high end gamer currently have a 2080ti with 9900k waiting for my inno3d 3080. Im really happy to see what you can get out of a low power card like this fantastic stuff altogether. so glad I got into pc gaming all those years ago with my pentium 60mhz with 8 megs of ram. got my first 3fx card in 1997 think it had 8 megs of vram compare that with today its just nuts!! yet i still had great gaming times playing quake half life and c&c and civ 2. Love the fact these days it doesnt cost a bomb to get your foot in the door to pc gaming. great stuff :D

I have an old model Fractal case that still looks great... Has a silly vertical GPU bracket that is only single-slot. Found a rare GTX 970 single-slot for it, to make a beast WinXP retro rig.

@@RWL2012 Exactly... the 960 is the top card to _officially_ work on XP. But it's just a simple text edit hack to .inf files, to get working a higher 970, 980, 980ti, or Titan X (Maxwell).

As far as the vram thing in cod warzone, you might see better performance on this card and any card really if you go under the players folder adv_options and change the video memory scale from .85 to .65 as with the more recent game update you'll use more vram. This change does help for most and could change things from being unplayable to playable and certainly reduce stutter/overall vram usage.

Reason why 750Ti aged so well is also in the architecture itself, it was first we saw of Maxwell, which would latter get improved to Maxwell 2.0 and went into 900 series. Still, because it shared enough in common, it also took more benefits from driver updates 900 series got, as well as optimizations for it, which definitely aided aging.

Quadro and other workstation cards are actually more commonly found in single-slot solutions, but with awfully loud blower fans since they're made for workstation/server usage. I've seen servers at my datacenter at work that packs 3 of those in just 2U of space (3.5" in height)

with my 1050 ti in my small Dell 990 i get a much better looking Cod warfare at 50ish fps with mixed settings and keep in mind im running a I5 2400 CPU so im guessing its the version of the card because it could look much better with a Budget system than ya think! love these systems and cards i think there a good Medium P.S. love your vids

oooh i had this for an old optiplex rig, had to jerry rig the case the vericle mount it where the disk bay would otherwise go but its was a great add when it came to thermals

I once bought 2 of these and 4 ASL Black Flag 1050 ti's which was single slot low profile with a more noisy blower fan new for £120 a pop plus £10 postage for them all from Germany, for doing then £15 Xeon E5450 3.0ghz mods on £30 Dell Optiplex 380's. They made great little rigs with 16g DDR3 10600mhz and a cheap 120g SSD they often came with a 320-500gb HDD for less than £200. For their time gave equal to i5 3500 gaming performance and where lovingly known as PlexBox380s. Those old optiplex's pci slots where sort of wrong way round and had oddball cooling shrouds that made finding GPUs to fit in a bit of a mare. These where great for throwing in them to really bring out the potential of what was effectively e-waste that would outperform some £300-£500 custom rigs that where selling online at the time. Those cards where hard to find though and later found Dell/HP oem 1050ti's with red PCBs that fit, which I could find plenty of new from a China seller shipped for £80-£90 pre Covid times. I did my last xeon mod micro tower just before Christmas last year which sold for £170 and gave up modding them with the quad cores are no good for future games news.

I think you should remake the video you made a few years ago about the best pc parts under £10 cos a lot has changes since then. Also i think you should make some more merch cos if you do i would try persuading my parents to let me get a mug like you had before (that was before i was into pc building). Also i have just ordered my pc parts and i ordered a dell optiplex 790 and i am putting in an i5 2400, upgrading the ram to 8gb, upgrading the psu, adding a gtx 770 (2gb version. I think theis will be fine even though i saw your video the other day about it because i would only be playing games like minecraft and overwatch), adding a 1tb hard drive and a 120gb ssd

I got a 1070 katana......horrible thing, it was reaching higher temps than 85-92 in a WELL cooled case and would THROTTLE horribly, 1 fan out back, 1 fan out top, 2 fans intake at front (noctuas) - it was very loud..... I even tested it with the case wide open.....so airflow was not an issue - I returned the damn thing and the shop sold the opened item at higher than what I bought it at :) even with setting the FAN at max RPM, goodbye EARS, but wouldn't go lower than 85 degrees. Then got a 1070 Founders Edition 40% cheaper cuz I went with SH (the dude had it in his 8 year old daughter's PC, the guy was a builder, sleek cases, and seemed like he took care of his hardware, the card even had the plastic wrap on the window of the shroud, clean as fuck. Guess what?! - under 80 degree temps, no throttle, and QUIET, I was amazed at how quiet the FE was on auto fan RPM :) Now I stripped its shroud and put an accelero III on it, and two noctua fans on it, barely 65 degrees summer, barely any noise as I set the fans at 1200 RPM which is quiet for noctuas. Ain't going with single slot cards again ever.... At least the 1050TI is low power and won't have the katana issues

@@saibamoe Well yeah, the Katana is a single slot card and the FE is a dual slot card. Of course its going to run cooler. It is a significantly hotter chip than the 1050TI. Over twice the power consumption. The 950 single slot that I have in a secondary PC does decently enough. However if I have the settings set more modestly and use vsync at 60fps then the cards heat output drops significantly. And it is in the 60c range with its fan hardly even turning.

Maybe I just had bad luck with that one but let's get real, to bottleneck your card's performance yourself to obtain better temps is .... no thanks :), get a worse GPU for less money otherwise it's just waste.

@@saibamoe I dont see the point in the card rendering frames i cant see. Also when you have the card running at about 90% utilization and the cpu able to keep from being quite maxed out, then you have zero lag spikes. 1% lows are nearly at vsync as well.

To this day there is only one reason I would want an R9 Fury, and that is one that has the EK waterblock for it; because with it, it turns the R9 into a pure single slot solution; the kit that it came with also included a new bracket since the second slot's ventilation would presumably not be needed. At least then, it made it easy to have room for another expansion card, like say a sound card and/or a capture card in an mATX board. As such, I would want something like this in my living room pc that's set up to be there for capturing from my consoles to upload to twitch and stuff. Then I could use the added PCI-e 1x slot that's otherwise covered up by the GPU's cooler.

The 1050Ti was really ok for it's price. I saved up for an RX480, but then the mining crisis hit and all I could afford was a 1050Ti. I got one with an extra 6Pin on purpose, because I wanted to OC the snod out of it. My highest OC was + 200 on the core and + 1000 on the memory, that was at 7°C in my garage in january. It was a blast and the card served me well. I still own it and I would like my brother to have it for his first PC. Now I have a GTX1660Ti.

Inno3d are pretty good and underrated. I swear by them. I have an inno3d 3060 ti in my system right now and have used their cards in other systems i have built. They are... different and a bit special. They stand out from other blander cards. They sometimes have fancy colours and lights. They have good solid coolers. I've never seen temp issues with an inno3d card. Don't let the fact that they are a bit cheaper put you off. No corners are cut. The one i have has a special cut out metal back plate that allows for a blow through cooling system similar to the rtx 3000 fe cards. It also has a massive heat sink. My card never goes above 68c on the warmest of days. The only complaint i have with them is they only give a 2 year warranty. But then in all the years i've bought inno3d cards, ive never seen one fail.

This could make a nice card to throw on a micro ATX in an HTPC where you might want to use all the other expansion slots and not block any with a 2 slot GPU. I am also curious about those super slim ITX chassis with the horrizontal expansion slot at the back. Maybe a riser cable and this one slot card could fit?

1050ti still kicking ass tbh, at the time of the mining crisis, I got it for 160€, 3 years later sold it for 100 € and bought a 1650 super for 160€ as well. Amazing how much this card still sells for on the used market

Card is absoulutely the best 1 slot GPU currently not on the market xD runs Left 4 dead 2 on high 144 fps no problem. other old gen titles like that get absolutely smashed aswell. Great card for a ITX Case with a single slot. Finished my build for my nephew age 5 and found out that the gpu needed to be a 1 slotter. Done some research and im still amazed how good this card performs.

I'm still using a 1050ti Laptop. Combine your 1050ti with Riva Tuna to lock your frame pacing and you have better than the current console experience. As long as you're happy with console gaming then the card is still able to play everything I've tried at 1080p and mid/high. Sadly I feel this will soon be coming to an end, and I'll have to be retiring my trusty msi gv72 8rd next year. I think I'm going to build a static rig, but I might grab another laptop with the rtx cards depending on the price. I've always gamed with consoles so 30fps is fine for me so long as the frame pacing is locked, but I won't pay more than £1k on a laptop.

I have 1070 x2 v3 from inno3d and temps are very high 80+c in demanding games but u have tested 2 inno3d cards and temps are fine. Hmm is this brand good or bad?

You should be getting the ASL G1504 (which is also a GTX 1050) for review as well, if you can actually get one as it seems to be very rare out there. It's probably the most powerful single slot, low profile graphics card ever existed.

They are not the only single slot gtx 1050 ti around. Zotac has it for their mini version too. Yes its technically a dual slot card fitted with a single slot bracket, but taking the shroud off means it fits a single slot environment like a btx motherboard whose pcie slot faces the metal shroud on the right

Galax made a single-slot 1070 somewhat similar to this, called the Katana, which I've always been rather enamored with, and a single-slot version of a high-end card like the 1070 is a more impressive achievement to me... although I've never seen anybody actually test one.

I believe galax if I recall correctly did something similar like this. It was a single slot RX 460, and you had a choice between 2 and 4GB of VRAM.
