At the start of the video: MVL: "Who are you playing?" Nepo: "Dubov" Nepo: "Maybe I should, you know, delay for a couple of mins.. get guaranteed draw. Draw with mercy!" MVL: "Over under how many moves?" Nepo: "2 moves" Context: Previously during Round 8, Artemiev vs Dubov; Artemiev turns up 1 min late, plays 1 move with black; Dubov offers a draw as white with 1 min ahead on the clock, Artemiev accepts it.

@@VijayThakurMD Well, the arbiter used the Fide rules to give 0 points to both players. "Chief Arbiter IA Ivan Syrovy first informed of his decision to give 0 points to both contenders based on subsections 11.1 and 12.9.5 of FIDE’s Laws of Chess: 11.1. The players shall take no action that will bring the game of chess into disrepute. 12.9.5. Options available to the arbiter concerning penalties: reducing the points scored in the game by the offending player. According to Syrovy, the moves played in the game demonstrate that Dubov and Nepomniachtchi had prearranged the result of the game. The players objected to the decision, which prompted a referral to the Appeals Committee. The Committee unanimously voted (3/3) to reject the appeal." Bcz in those Berlin draws both players are making the best moves in those positions, they always have the choice to deviate from the position but deviating doesn't give them any real advantage whereas here both the players are making objectively bad moves on purpose. The players here had the choice to deviate from this knight dance and have a real advantage in the game. For example position is -1.3 in black's favor according to stockfish after white's 2nd move. If you're replying with a blunder in response to a blunder from your oppostion on purpose then that's the very definition of match fixing.

Nah, not imo. Normally there is plausible deniability. Plus in a Berlin or something u r never worse, u reach draw by playing the best moves. It's different in this case since u have to play bad moves to reach draw. If one player wants he can try to play for win. Do only reason it's a draw is cause it's pre- arranged. Which is definitely a bad look.. And if allowed gives countries like India and Russia with lot of top players a big advantage as they can fix many games. Even if Dubov Ian wanted a draw they could have been smarter about it. This is definitely gonna be punish. Leko even predicted this live in the commentary since this has happened before too.

@@kunalsingh4418 being smarter about making a draw doesn't make the result any different. Imo it is not about the moves and how good or bad they are as the draw by agreement option exists based on the "agreement" part. Any draw can be fixed because you just need the opponent to agree. That's why this ruling is inconsistent and not credible - there's never a definition on how an agreement can be reached so what is an arbiter to determine if one draw is fine and the other one is not. There have also been more than a handful of less than 5 move draws on the top 10 board across all sections, again it is just one of the many choices players can make.

Making a draw on move 3 is possible. Drawing in Berlin Qe4-Qd4 is possible. It is possible to play fixed matches with Ding Liren and Firouzja in order to qualify for the Candidates Tournament. You can't play by the rules, but make moves with your knights alone. Look, don't get confused. The judge, of course, is an idiot - to take away half a point from the leaders, who will still find a way to do it. I hope he will never referee chess tournaments again, especially at a level for which he obviously does not correspond. I hope Nepomniachtchi and Dubov will win their appeal.

Magnus won the blitz championship with 16 in clear 1st. Dubov got 2nd place with 15.5 points. So if Dubov didn't pull this complete nonsense with Ian, and instead went for a Berlin draw or any other 3-fold repetition draw, Dubov will also have 16 points, tie with Magnus' 16 points. And what makes it even better is Dubov actually has a better tiebreaker 1 (TB1) score than Magnus, so Dubov would have won the blitz championship. But he pulled this stuff with Ian and robbed himself of being a WC, who's there to blame?
