Its a little odd to hear that the mom 'had an affair' but the dad stayed with his wife primarily, and are still good friends. Op was likely lied to about the details of this 'affair' and it was more likely either the mother was raped (which would explain why they dont want to know) or some kind of polyamory that the family didn't like, and protection failed (specifically sexual polyamory isnt typically shared with family for I'd assume obvious reasons, and it might have been easier to say it was an affair over polyamory) in whichever way the affair actually was, its still very weird to stay with someone who cheated on you, and stay their friend as well

This happened to my mom’s friend except more sad. Her dad left her mom who insisted she hadn’t had an affair. He got remarried and lived not far from her, raising 4 kids with all they could ask for while my mom’s friend was an “only child” with not much to her name. Years later, after he died, they did the tests and found he really was her biological father.

Four of the five are west coast, as we expected, but then there's randomly a significant amount of contribution from a northeast tribe. Then on my mother's side, she has traceable Aztec blood, which was neat af to learn. She's also not white Mexican like she thought, her father wasn't her real blood father, oops.

Not mine but my dog's. I have a mutt that clearly shows her German shepherd and pitty genes, and if you know what to look for, you can identify three more of her breeds. She is clearly the product of several medium to large breeds. So imagine my shock when I learned that she is more Chihuahua than German shepherd. Chihuahua is her third biggest genetic contributor after American Staffordshire terrier and American pitbull terrier. A Chihuahua somehow bred with a dog five times it's size.

We legitimately couldn't look different and when i was with my dad people assumed he was baby sitting or i was adopted. With my mom she thought we were half black because thats what she had been told all her life. DNA proved i was my dads child and someone family tried reaching out to me 18 years too late. I was in fact not too dark enough to be their kin. With my mom we are indigenous native americans not black at all 😂 found 2 sides of the family that hid their heritage. The indigenous and jewish side hid what they were and told everyone they were spaniard / black.

Funny how despite this being a good ending, the mom was confirmed to be cheating and no one called her out on it. Guaranteed if the guy had cheated over 80% of the comments would have point it out

Anybody ever think about getting cat DNA, just to see the reaction of people when you show them the results? That was a bad time to get a laugh at a funeral

Mandatory paternity testing at birth would have prevented all that uncertainty. There's no way it didn't impact the father even if he didn't show it to his kids. PS. The father sounds like an awesome guy.

I have more neanderthal markers than 98% of the population and i have a very diverse genetic background. For context if you were to look at me you wouldn't guess it at all as I'm a 6'4" white dude with blue eyes. So i figured i would have germanic and Scandinavian background, which i do, but there are only 2 regions on earth that i dont have any ancestors from. That is Australia and Greenland

my grandfather made a baby (presumably in an abusive way) with his cousin and then that baby was put up for adoption. i met my (half) uncle later cos he was flagging in 23andme as a cousin even though i only have one aunt on each side, and he was older than both of them (turns out the % of match could be cousin or half-uncle). he already knew through other testing that his birth was likely from incest, but it blew up my aunt's perception of her family completely. my mom was fine though, she already had a rough relationship with her dad since she was older and saw a lot more of his alcoholism, and at most it gave her closure for why that side of the family would exclude them while she was growing up. my grandfather died before i was born so it was kind of just whatever to me. my uncles cool tho, we talked through email a little bit and he seems like he has a good life and loves his family.

Being Jewish is a religion,, NOT a verifiable DNA result. Like my being Catholic or Baptist or Methodist. You also share more than 90% DNA with Bonobos and Gorillas. THAT doesn't make you a monkey's Uncle.

@@unnamed47 Nah in some places being directly half white is worse than black or jewish especially if you are "ruining good white genes" my paternal side is basically only Anglo Saxon and Germanic. besides the .4% jewish my paternal side is basically like little mustache man's "prefers ethnicity" and that would make my dad a "traitor" and me and my siblings as again "ruining good white genes"
