Woops, apparently I left y'all hanging by not showing how I got in the car. The answer: unclip the bustle, and put it back on in the parking lot when I reached my destination. Inconvenient, I.Baldwin clearly didn't take automobiles into account while designing 😜 (Bonus Fun Fact: The year 1886 is regarded as the birth year of the modern car....same as this bustle-chair.)

I thought telemarketing was via the telephone where they call you up. ........I may or may not be rewatching this with the thought of making one to hide under my cosplays. And to answer the question about not being allowed to sit, big gowns are tricky to sit in at the best of times, often there aren't enough chairs that are suitable for big gowns at conventions (I've been to a lot with airline or arena style seating where the chair arms make it impossible) and a lot of cons discourage sitting on the floor, especially in areas of high foot traffic for obvious reasons (plus you might not want to risk your dress that way)

I'm thinking this certainly wouldn't be an "everyday" item of wear, but it would really come in handy for picnics, garden parties, outdoor concerts, etc. The kind of thing where people usually stand around and have either limited seating, or sit on the ground. It would also be very useful for "ladies of a certain age" who tire quickly when out shopping, and may need a seat when none are available. Overall, I think it could be a discreetly incredibly useful device to have! So convenient!

I'm sorry to get you excited. #^-^;# The handmade shoes I wear are pikes which I ordered from an online store based in the UK. And the arches in them are lovely! My only complaint is that the heels have not much room for me to put taps on the bottom to protect the heel. I have designed a lot of boots and heels but I unfortunately don't have the materials or know-how to do more just yet. And I love turnshoes!! Did you use Morgan's video?? Think corner and one edge is 'plain' seam and the other is bound with ribbon that goes over the front and back of it, so you slot the plain seam into the corner of the bound seam.. i think best way i can describe it as a seam Or if you are familiar with anatomy, think joint: one ball and one socket, but in the lap joint its a square peg as the ball and a equally square hole as the socket

Hege Valle not quite. I think what you're describing is the mortise and tennon. The mortise is a rectangular hole and the tennon is the shaved down rectangular tongue sticking off the end of the other piece that fits perfectly inside the mortise to create a really strong joint. A lap joint, also known as a half-lap, is when you have two pieces of the same thickness and you remove half the thickness of each on opposite sides so that when they are put together the overlapped sections is the same thickness as the rest of each piece. I can't really think of an analog in sewing because I can't think of any seams where you'd remove half the thickness of the fabric since that would pretty much destroy the structural integrity of it.

I can actually see this as being useful and even needed. As my mother has aged - she’s 87 now - she tires more easily and finding a place for her to sit is always a chore. We had to get her a walker with a seat. Given that they walked a lot more than we do, and wore more weight in clothing, I can see some enterprising Victorian son saying “here mom let’s just build you something to sit on ‘

The various layers made the chair disappear and it seemed uncomplicated to sit down - I was doubtful of the usefulness of the whole thing until you sat down wherever you wanted with such ease. I definitely need that thing!

Thank you for actually showing how to pin your vest together. I’ve tried to find information on this for years and have never found any help. All the videos I’ve seen have fingers and hands in the way during the actual pinning, and written instructions just say “pin it together” or “pin into the corset/stays”. For someone who’s never seen pins which hold things together while keeping everything but the heads invisible, this was so wonderful and thank you so, so much for this!! Oh, and I love the chair, too. I remember seeing that patent in a “how silly were people in history book” when I was 9 and always thought it was brilliant.

While we may not carry around a chamber pot anymore, there are modern funnel shaped devices designed to enable women to urinate whilst standing. One is called Tinkle Belle. I imagine one could be hidden under voluminous skirts until needed.

Love this!!!!!! I'm disabled and this would be so handy! Sometimes I don't want to use my wheelchair because its bulky and difficult to navigate in some Crowder situations but I can't waddle far without rest. The skirt would hide my waddle and my chair! Lol... We so need this to come back into style!

You don’t have to wait for bustle gowns to come back into style - just go for it now! You might get a couple of surprised glances at first, but whether you live in a tiny village or a big city, it will pass quicker than you think. The villagers will understand the purpose, and the city folks will just see you as another face in the crowd, and neither will care much beyond the initial novelty of it.

I love how well it is ‘hidden’ in the skirts, and it looks amazing when you just decide to sit down. People must’ve looked twice when they saw a Victorian-style lady sit down sans chair and then pop her legs over each other. There NEEDS to be a modern version of this!!! Especially right now, my local shopping centre, and no doubt others world wide, took away most of the benches cos of social distancing. It's perfect for long shopping trips, days out, picnics for the fussy!, certain cosplays, festivals/ploughing matches/dog shows/events in fields... all the queuing we have to do right now! Something light that folds up a little bit maybe? that can be strapped around your jeans. I NEED ONE! Not that I'm going anywhere fun right now. When I put on my long Romanian folk costume I usually I put my shoes after the “chemise” and before adding the finishing touches as per example the outer skirt and / or the head covering. I feel it is much more practical this way.
