Quite the opposite, once you did all of the vetting on your potential partner you didn't waste time. Most high society girls and women would be married within 3 years of their debut into social society (going to events, dances/balls). That's where the term "debutante" comes from (not sure I spelled it right).

Let us know how to respect the Almighty Who sits on the throne of Heaven. Him Who is superior over everything. Using the name of God in vain mindlessly is disrespectful. It is holy. You can ask yourself this question, "Why do I take the name of the most Powerful God in vain to express an emotion?" The third of The Ten Commandments states, "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain" (Exodus 20:7). Using "Gosh" "Jeez" "Gee" is also taking the Lord's name in vain because it is an alternative word to not sound offensive. But it is still wrong as it comes from a Holy Name. "God" and "Jesus"

remember some people dont want that, and there are no rules against it to do it the way you want, though it might require openly stating your wishes, or asking someone before a date if they would be up for it. i know it seems weird to try and 'dictate' how a date should be, but chances are the person is actually interested in doing it, too. its bad to impose a general rule on everybody like they did back then, not everybody fits into these rules or like how they work. today is fine, because everything is allowed as long as there is consent, and feelings and boundaries are considered. you can do it however you like it, if you find someone who agrees with it. someone could probably make a dating site or even role playing site out of it, if the need is large enough. maybe it already exists, i have not checked

@Jordan Edward I disagree. I think as long as you feel angry, it's okay to feel angry. Let yourself feel those feelings, don't bottle them up. Just whatever feelings you have, whether it's loneliness, hollowness, sadness, or whatever, let yourself feel it. Now, I don't want you to dwell on them, cuz it will be destructive. I just don't want you to hold back your thoughts and feelings, for the sake of "health". just do what you need to do ☺️ And maybe, if you can, try to reunite with him a little bit, but maybe just visiting him, or talking to him on the phone briefly. Watching this I realize my husband is a gentleman; he always makes sure I'm on the inside of the sidewalk when we're out on walks, he's very discreet so he doesn't kiss me when we're around a lot of people in public, he's never given me cause to be jealous (and vise versa because I very much appreciate and love him), and even when he was in high school- he didn't flirt with every girl he met. He's seen as old fashioned by all his friends and family, but it's why I love him. Dating doesn't have to be full of spiteful mind games and it's a great relief when it isn't! Great to hear. As a guy, here's another thing that I've noticed works over the years: DON'T start a relationship with flirting, EVEN IF you know the girl would enjoy it. One, it can look bad to others; Two, you want to be this person's friend, not just develop erotic feelings. Start with a simple friendship FIRST, if deeper feelings later develop, THEN do true romance stuff. You'll save yourself a lot of heartache and pain for both, OR know for sure they're genuine (would you love that person equally when they were 89 years old and full of wrinkles?). Of all the elderly couples I've had the wonderful privilege of seeing, I'd say 85% of the ones married 50 years or more began with this friendship, NOT with flirting. It's truly beautiful to see the love has not diminished after all those decades, and many call their spouse "their greatest friend".

People these days are wild. I think these Victorian era etiquettes should come back to modern life. Nowadays it feels like manners only matter to women, men really don't care about women's feelings or follow basic manners. There is no proper flirting dating or anything, even a short single conversation with a straight male friend indicates signals for sex, even friends/colleagues ask for benefits lol. I sometimes wish I could go back to the times when you had to marry to have sex, ride a horse for miles just to have tea with the woman you love. Since it became way too easy to reach someone's bed, no one wants to marry until their thirties or at all. Today dating is a headache for religious or simply conservative women/men like me who want serious relationship which leads to marriage.
@sitcomchristian68863 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, just because the dating guide says it doesn't necessarily mean people were actually following the guides. Don't compromise on what/who you're looking for! Better to hold out than to settle. We can't go back in time, but you can keep your integrity.
@artfullyanjali3 жыл бұрын
@@sitcomchristian6886 agree with you. Honestly look up Victorian hypocrisy. They had a ton of rules but men had easier time not following them than women who were constantly in their houses and couldn't leave it like their husbands to go see a prostitute yet maintain a noble image.

yes I’m kind of conservative too, I don’t know why. I would consider extra stuff only if I know I will marry the man. but even then I don’t have any hope at all that marriage will stay in place... Don't worry, some of us younger fellows still do have integrity and etiquette best we can. I actually wish men would treat EACH OTHER better, not just ladies. I've seen way too many cuss-out quarrels and fights in my lifetime over issues that ultimately mean NOTHING. A sporting event is JUST a sporting event. Furthermore, not every person will agree on big issues, and guess what? That does NOT necessarily make them bad people, so stop always vilifying them. Respect all around is so desperately needed in today's culture.

Of course, people were people, and weren't always behaving themselves. I've done some research for 1890--1910 . I found some articles admonishing young ladies to not have pictures of themselves taken in various stages of undress to send to their boyfriends, as the photographers always make copies of the pictures to sell in the saloons. I would say that would be the Victorian version of sexting. Naturally, there was a significant amount of illegitimacy as well. The papers of that era have numerous articles of Miss so and so charging Mr so and so with seduction and bastardy. At that time with no DNA testing or even blood typing, a man so charged would have to prove that he 1) didn't even know the woman 2) was nowhere near her at the time conception would have taken place 3) that he had been in the hospital or under doctor's care at the time. The main tactic was to smear the woman's reputation by getting several other men to come forward to say that they had had sex with her and that she was a loose woman. If the court found the man guilty he was usually ordered to pay $2 a month until the child reached age 18. If the child had already died, he was usually ordered to pay $100 to the woman for having put her through pregnancy, birth and death of the chold.

I really liked the no acceptance of presents as to not give bad ideas. Such a huge problem to do is men feeling “friend zoned” aka entitled to a woman’s body just because someone did a few niceties or offered kind friendship. I’ve even had a boyfriend in high school, that wanted or felt entitled to my virginity because he bought me lunch every Monday. I broke up with him. I do not accept things from people to this day for fear of having anything misconstrued. A gift means you expect nothing in return you do it because you want to. My body is not worth Japanese food no matter how good.

"Which makes sense, if you're going to hit on a man's wife, you should at least let him sign off on it." I think it'd have more to do with making it official that you weren't going to hit up on her as the husband would be aware that his wife was at another man's house to avoid the bs the rumor mill often caused. Just a simple "sir did you know wife was at his house the other day?" can still cause all sorts of trouble.

For sure, as a guy I've seen WAY too many girls just use men to get what they want or at least make the relationship tilted one way. Of course, my fellow men ABSOLUTELY need to clean up their act in some ways as well (such as their attitude and ESPECIALLY their language, for graciousness sake!), but I long for days when more couples actually cared about each other MUTUALLY and were willing to at least try to be there for each other whenever possible. It's awful when guys are told to just shape up, shut up and not express pain (sometimes because the girl doesn't want to hear about it). Even many of the most powerful men in history (the good ones) showed emotion many times.
