Beautiful! I was taught by Fiona's contemporary, Duncan Bache up to grade 5 and once heard Fiona in concert in Caversham - amazing! This piece is an ABRSM grade 8 one. After a break from playing of many years I got my grade 6 last year, am taking 7 next term and am starting to choose pieces for grade 8 - I think Fiona's just convinced me to go for this one!!

The fact that you weighed in (along with the way you went about it) ended my debate over Em vs Dm. Further, I'm going to borrow some things from the lady Fiona with regard to an octave here and there along with a couple of fingerings. Not that it'll make a world of difference in the final outcome, it's still little old me but if you're gonna clutch at straws, may as well reach for the ones on the top shelf, no?

Players need to understand that the sheet notation is just a way to immortalize the piece and It have limitations. Follow strictly commands and, most of all, supress feelings when playing because they are not writen in the sheet is deny the very soul of the composers and, even worse, your own. Here we have a rare case of a genuine player, whose soul can be heard, it's not mute by the score.

Excellent performance! I would like to know how you set the recording, I mean , microphone, eq, reverb, etc. Thank you in advance.
@fionaharrison71322 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcos. I'm afraid I have a very basic set-up. An old Canon Legria camcorder into which I plug a Sony ECM mic. Then it goes straight into iMovie. The reverb is from the natural acoustic of the room. The older videos, I don't think I used an external mic...the instruction manual was a bit complicated 🧐
@clydewatkins98913 жыл бұрын
Still I'm listening in! This is very subtly played. Harrison has the ear to match her touch. I'm inspired to find more Ray Burley arrangements.

i dont get it.. what is the tempo for this piece? i can see there in the score that most of this is semicorchets and time in 3/4 but people play this increasind and decreasing speed in almost every bar..why is that? the original socores says something about that?
@fionaharrison71324 жыл бұрын
I don't seem to be able to reply succinctly, so I've deleted a few of my replies! But yes, I hear the first part taking on a different character/ harmonic role/ fluidity from the contrasting second part... and the bass taking an enormous role in underpinning the harmony.
@shiroumxm20524 жыл бұрын
@@fionaharrison7132 I made some research and i figured it out that speeding up and slowing the tempo is called "Rubato" .. That was what I was trying to say but my english is very poor hahha. So my question is ¿ does the score have a instruction to be played "rubato"? or it is ok to play it that way even when there is not instruction to play it that way? Anyway, you play it wonderfully, this is to me, the best version of this piece. Thank you for replying lady.
