I was born and raised in Welch and back in the '40s, '50s and '60s it was a booming town with lots of people on the streets especially on the weekends and lots of shops up and down McDowell St. Got a tear in my eye when you passed by the house we lived in and my parents owned until 2012. One thing hasn't changed and that is how friendly the people are there.

This town is really interesting. The downtown area feels like a ghost town with so many abandoned buildings, perfect for a night exploration. I also agree, it's great to see how much this town honors its veterans.

Welch West Virginia is an interesting but mostly abandoned town.You passed Bramwell and it once had the most millionaires per capita in 1900 when coal was booming,alot of fine old homes there.Downtown Bluefield with a population of around 9,000 was once known as little Manhattan with the historic highrises there in it's day

It looks like Welch is a thriving metropolis compared to the small West Virginia town I live in. The town I live in has less than 1,000 people.

The buildings are not 1700s
@TIMJMEANSBUSINESSАй бұрын
You're right, Welch wasn't incorporated as a city until 1893. Those buildings were built in the early 1800's - 1900's.

I’m not sure what happened, at first, I thought my girl pushed me, but she said she saw my body move like something pushed me, even though nothing was there. She’s convinced it was a ghost, which is why we decided not to go inside the church."
