The population in the 1950s and 1960s was around 6,500 people. The population now is around 2,000 people.

Yes, it is a nice drive video in a nice town occompanied by the overly prevalent "musical" tune desert "music" of today, where musical "instruments" have no soul. Non music so to speak, or better yet... ...laziness making noises. 👍🤠

Welch is often described as a "ghost town," hardly anybody lives there or in the rest of McDowell County. It's the poorest county in the state, and it's been losing people consistently since 1950.
