My brother-in-law worked with this when they where testing at Edward's AFB and MCAS Beaufort. Hes now working in Texas as a civilian withe them. Love this air frame.

Projects that overrun as massively as this one has are always kept alive because of some ego/financial incentive rather than because of value. This is because projects where the final delivery is a series of fixes built upon fixes ends up having lots of vulnerabilities. By the time this behemoth has been able to fly drone technology has far surpassed what this aircraft can do. There really is no longer any need for this aircraft.

F-35 body designed to produce lift, flies more like a F-18 than a F-16. I don't like the look as much as the F-15E or F-22, but it is still very powerful.

Rob G It doesn't take off vertically. It can only land vertically. It can't take off vertically and turn into horizontal flight like the harrier could. It can perform STOVL.

The B variant will fit well the Royal Navy but they should get a couple of squadrons of the A variant for Homeland related affairs. Russians often wonder around near by British waters.

It's worth it. The F 35's AESA 186 mile radar range vs Russia's SU 35's 30 mile radar range. The SU 35 will get killed first without knowing what hit him.

Doesn't make much sense to me personally to have all F-35's being VTOL capable. Instead have 100 B's and the remaining 38 being A variants, being able to deliver that strike capability with a larger payload and longer range, for missions previously performed by the Tonkas

Sadly most non-nato powers use LONG wave based radar which can still detect them. Long wave is inherently shorter ranger but stealth means dick all. Nato powers use SHORT wave radar which it is almost invisible on. Giant sham TBH.

MR TRUCULENT SAYS !!!! Why the hell can we not build them here in the UK. We built the first jump jet, Originally developed by UK manufacturer Hawker Siddeley in the 1960s. They did us well in the Falklands war 1982. We lost none. The only problem was they did not fly at the speed of sound. The F - 35 is a nice jet, but it is a shame it isn't British.
