He has so much sincerity and sweetness. I never knew. The Israel Philharmonic players really love him. He has been with them for so many years. And now he is passing on the "sharvit" (baton). (The Hebrew word sharvit appears in the Book of Esther, when King Achashverosh raises his golden scepter, the sharvit hazahav, to indicate his acceptance of Esther's appearance unbidden by the king. I love how modern Hebrew is based on Biblical sources.)

such a happy feeling.. zubin continuiing his great musical efforts to build that bridge betweenI India my country and great land of Israel. Zubin, Freddy Mercury, Ravi Shankar and yes we did contribute and continue to contribute as we blend indian classical and film music and with the western. i listened to western classic music thru 33 rpm records imported from USSR in sixties and seventies as our then government had unfortunately brushed aside anything western on political and non allignment scripts... Zubin went from strenth to strength. saw him conducting in eighties in NY NY. Had goose pimples when he offered Namaste to IPO. Long Live Maestro from the bottom of my heart a fan from Bangalore, India

What a sweet tribute from the IPO to Maestro Mehta, and from him to them. I'm misty-eyed. I knew he'd just retired, but I didn't know he'd been ill. When he mentions "Daniel just phoned me...where he played as a soloist..." starting at 3:15, I wonder if he's referring to Daniel Barenboim?
