I remember reading back in the day that originally in the script when Seven 'woke up' and found the drones doing whatever it was they were doing to her she also found herself back in her Borg armour but Jeri refused as she hated being stuck in it
@technopirate304

I always thought of Dark Frontier as Seven being stuck in a custody battle between two mothers -The Borg Queen and Janeway. The Queen wants Seven to stay one of her little minions and comply. Janeway wanted to give Seven every chance to have a life that she could call her own.
@TSR1989FF
@TSR1989FF Жыл бұрын
Agreed; albeit that the Queen seems to be trying to transform Seven into her willing counterpart / successor, as illustrated by her attempts to encourage Seven into seeing an entire species assimilated as a wonderous thing (for the individuals assimilated and the collective), to "take pleasure in this". On one hand the Queen wants Seven's individuality & creative thinking intact & unsuppressed, yet also wants Sevdn to dedicate herself to the collective, to discard her "irrelevant human emotions" and see things from her (the Queen's) perspective. In a way both Janeway & the Queen are fighting over an adopted daughter. One wants her to be a happy individual as she was pre-assimilation, while the other wants Seven to re-embrace the family she was forcibly transformed into a member of (and was reluctant to leave), in a higher position than before.

RCaIabraro, I don’t have a problem with Star Fleet holding workshops and training sessions on privacy rights, intellectual property rights, freedom of speech, and other civil rights. After all, I had to take those where I work but reference is always made to the underlying civilian authority’s rules that the organization must abide by. I understand Star Trek is a fictional series about Star Fleet, a military or quasi-military organization. In the context of the series, Star Fleet is a governmental organ of what Capt. Kirk characterized as a democratic body. I just wish the non-military civilian authorities were better represented and often better depicted. But that’s the creators’ prerogative not mine. I’m just an audience member.

Thank You for posting. I know my place. Resistance is futile. I will watch these historical records! OK Love the Borg Queen character. I Love the actress Susanna Thompson. It has to be a challenge to take a role established by someone else. As an aside - I went down a rabbit hole on KZbin looking at things of Voyager. I saw the side by side comparison of Kate Mulgrew vs Geneviève Bujold. To me it's such a stark contrast. However, I digress. When it comes to the Borg Queen and her portrayal, for me it can only Alice Krige. Perhaps it's an imprint thing but she embodies the role for me. That she was in Endgame is 🥰🥰🥰. Her cadence of speaking and choice of movements. Of course, *that* entrance! ❤ Yet, my gracious Thanks to you for your time and effort in posting. I had, many years ago, shall we say acquired the series. However, the external storage without warning joined that great digital ethers of Media Not Responding. So these are very much appreciated. 🖖

2:52......such an insidious lie by the Queen. The way she attempts to make out that 'leaving' Seven on Voyager was part of some grand plan. Which couldn't be further from the truth, but its intended to sow doubt into Seven's mind, to make her doubt who she's become. Quite a clever attack vector, from a psychological point of view. Then when Seven asks for an explanation, the Queen deflects because she's making it up as she goes, on the hoof haha!
@maxsync183

[The little girl is finally undone by all this harassment. She decides that all this Terran talk of assimilation is "a good idea they foolishly had at their own expense," and makes the whole Terran Empire into Hell.] BORG QUEEN: This is not what you have been taught at all. CHIAHAKWMYM: Instructor. Tell me how to make them assimilate. To my Hell so they will go there. INSTRUCTOR: You are not going to Hell. CHIAHAKWMYM: I - uh. No. They are. They have a different Hell, that makes them not go to Hell but they'll go there anyway. I want their Hell to be mine so they'll go to it and not make all this fuss about theirs. INSTRUCTOR: They do not listen. CHIAHAKWMYM: I know it. [The little girl does them all by demanding the TERRAN agents never read her notes for class again. It exposes far more than she could imagine at all. KIRK's operations in Borg space are DONE, FOR 2 MORE YEARs. Every Terran and Borg asset is fucked to annihilation, and he is literally starting from nothing.] INSTRUCTOR: That's enough. [That moment once it is unraveled what happened, so completely does the Terran Empire in the eyes of the Borg population, that KIRK has basically fucked any hopes of war with the Borg for 3 years.]

Also aside from the sound effect, what is her connection to the alcove? In TNG the Alcoves connected through an interface on the palm of the drone. In her case there's always just a sound like she walked on a pressure plate.

[The little girl is bothered again. The BORG QUEEN demands she ignore him, until it's clear the man will not. She imagines herself in the Purgatory of her own design, but simply out of a hilarious, Dantean error of travel: she took a turn and somehow ended up on "the Borg cube in space." Immediately outside of the place is a church. The BORG QUEEN in her imagination greets her, and tells her to get back to her studies. The QUEEN and her PARLIAMENT laugh loudly.] BORG QUEEN: I see they tried to make you a statue to worship. Head to toes you are my girl, not theirs to worship and die for it. CHIAHAKWMYM: They tried to make me listen to all this music. BORG QUEEN: A sense of humor. Good. Watch your videos. [The nuisance during the rest of it is hilarious in context, because every second of the rest of that particular video was prevented in watching by Terrans, to cover up why they're annoying a little girl to annoy the BORG EMPEROR.] CHIAHAKWMYM: [Furious.] Nein. Nein und nein und nein. I wasn't her little girl, the last 2 years, I was hiding from you men. [The utter horror of her being from a planet conquered by the Borg, but being totally unaware of it for 2 years, because of how bothered she was by Terrans seeking a propaganda point from her gruesome case. She is a thorn in the side of the vision of the Borg as a world of miserable people who only know the seclusion of the Church of Scientology, cultlike culture, "where the second you're seen, you're joining Scientology or left by the roadside by everyone and then some." On the contrary, she lived for two years in an orphanage, going to class and seeing hardly any of it, told to ignore all of it completely, and to create a scene of Terran imagination, as if it itself was her life. 7/9 walked into this alternate world of the girl's day-to-day life, created by Terran propagandists THAT WAS A WALKING, LIVING VISION OF HELL, and started messing with their ideas, only to realize the girl was not a vengeful child of slain Terran agents, she was unconsciously attacking Terran points with Scientology but through a very darkened, distorted lens.]

Nah. Events in TNG changed the Borg, creating the chaos that resulted in the Borg having a Queen. This scene to me is more of a self-appointed parent trying to reason with one of her children. The Queen sees potential in Seven (as either a successor or a counterpart), in similar fashion to how she saw potential in Locutis; hence why she tries to get Seven to "take pleasure" in the collective assimilating new drones, while pushing her to discard the "human emotions" (empathy, guilt, compassion) because "they're irrelevant" and "the cause of your pain".

Technically true. The Borg are the analogy for Communism in Star Trek, both the abstract "ideal" form (see the Borg in TNG), and communism in practice (Voyager) which's a totalitarian neo-fuedalism with a defacto authoritarian monarch overseeing things.
