I came home from Germany and this was playing in customs...I used to work in WDW so this seriously made me overwhelmed with joy. Just the idea that I was coming home from traveling and exploring and hearing this bit of my past welcoming me home...I burst into happy tears.

Sometimes I get frustrated and angry at this country and some of the stupid things we do, and the way our politics get conducted, etc etc. But in all of that angst it's easy to forget how amazing this place is, and how it welcomed my ancestors 90 years ago and let them create a life that they could never have had anywhere else. Man we have flaws, big flaws, but this is a beautiful land and I would never live anywhere else!

I would fly home from Iraq after being in country for months and stand in the customs line at Dulles and watch this video on loop. It would definitely make me feel like I was back home finally.

I am German and it always brings a smile to my face when I wait at immigration and watch this video. I think it is awesome and it makes me feel good to visit the US. I wish we would have something like that instead of just unfriendly border police at Frankfurt or Munich airport.

there was a version of this narrated by obama, I used to love the video that played in the background while we waited in line at SFO to clear customs. I was feeling nostalgic and trying to find it but its nowhere to be found.

I have been around the world numerous times. I kiss the ground every time I arrive home. This is the land of FREE and home of the BRAVE!!! I have lived in other countries and speak other languages and appreciate their cultures etc, but there is something special about this great country. BTW: Who did that AWESOME MUSIC track????

I think this was just an attempt to use stock footage that Disney already owned to keep cost down. I am sure they never thought there would be such hoopla over 2 seconds of video showing a water fall that lies on the border. Just like the background music is Illuminations, the firework show at Epcot another way to keep cost low.

America is not perfect, but for that matter no country is. I think America is a great place not because we are perfect but because we realize we are not yet strive to be. I think most will concede that we do not hold a patent on this ideal, but we do hold it close in our hearts. (sorry, 500 char limit)

Cronerd, How would you feel if we made a video called Portraits of Canada and shot beautiful footage of America and put it in our video and tried to pass it off as our country? The reason people are angry is because there are 3 parts to Niagra falls and two of them lay in the US. They aren't the famous horseshoe falls but they are quite lovely. To shoot the one waterfall in Canada while standing in Canada to shoot it...Isn't that kind of an insult to both our countries?

technically 4:05 is both Canada and the US since Niagara Falls lies on the US/Canadian border and is split down the middle with both countries owning a half

Well I think the same would hold true with 1812. That was an American British war and while I am sure we could go on for days over the provocation and justification for it. In reality it was just a wrap up match to solidify American independence from Britain. It was a long sad war with great loss of life, but it did serve as a defining moment in telling Americans they could actually get behind this country.
@SmilingNinja
@SmilingNinja 12 жыл бұрын
it actually isn't 50/50 the actual border divides it rather unevenly, so horseshoe falls is about 70% canadian, 30% american and in order to see that view of niagara falls at 4:05 you have to be standing on canadian soil
@ChrisGlasgows
@ChrisGlasgows 17 жыл бұрын
That we were not just a fluke that would fade away in a decade, which at the time was a common opinion. That said, as I understand my history the war of 1812 was that all land went back to pre-war boundaries with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, ie... "status quo ante bellum" Either way I would not really say this war was with Canada as we know it today. Just as the French Indian war was not really a Canada/US war. We were both colonist at the time, and Canada was not separate until 1867.

Boy I thought that was the British? I was sure the French Indian War was in 1754. While the brunt of the work was done by the colonist that would later form America and Canada, the war was just a cheese game between France and Britain. Then again, I did get my history here in the US, so who knows that may have been re-written in the north.

This is the forum to make such comments, as I do have a right to free speech, just not exclusively. It is sad too that you feel that you can't do anything because you're just "regular people." Maybe a regular person can't but people en masse can. I don't think the American embassy cares about the complaints of Canadians, the better response would come if Americans got together and said "Hey, our country is beautiful and we don't need to show Canada and pretend it's ours to showcase our country
