Dubrovnik is unique, beautiful, historic and clean. It felt safe and secure. Crime levels are very low to non existent. Truly, the city is flooded with restaurants which are expensive. I don’t believe the wages for staff are very high though. The choice of dishes is somewhat limited with steak and fish seeming to predominate on most menus. However, we didn’t have a mediocre meal in our entire stay and the food always arrived hot. We stayed for 2 weeks in the old city (end of August to mid September 2018). The weather was hot but too many of the Croatians were cool to being downright rude. A bit like Paris. Most of the Mediterranean tiled rooftops, stark orange in colour, originate from Italy and are replacements for war damage. Croatia does not have traditional roof tile manufacturers any more. The pre war original roof tiles are a grey brown in colour. A guide told us that Dubrovnik is mainly a tourist attraction and most of the property is owned by non domicile foreigners. Predictably, this prices most of the nationals out at c.€6000 per square metre. Out of the tourist season, the population plateaus around 500 to 800 mark! Only one bar and supermarket remain open during this time, we were told. In season, the city is crowded and becomes even more so when the cruise ships arrive. We made a number of organised trips out from Dubrovnik and these are a must if you are staying a while. The Mostar Bridge is a not to be missed, together with one of the island tours. One tip: Don’t change money at the exchanges. Use the banks on the Stradun. They unusually give a much better rate! Another tip: buy a tourist card for entry to various sights. These come in 1., 3., or 7. days duration. Included is entry onto the wall. From memory a 7 day card was K350. Just over 2 wall tickets alone. You can also get 10% off some restaurant bills on production of this. Would we go again. You bet!

Hey guys, I just discovered you a couple of days ago and when I saw this exquisite city and country, which I want to visit so bad, I thought OOOOMMMMGGGG! It is so, so exquisite, especially the water. I first saw an awesome video of it many years ago by Rudy Maxa and what he showed and focused on was the exquisite water. The many different hues and shades of it. Magic! And then on top of that is the magnificent and majestic old town fort and city walls.. Unbelievable! Thank you for such a beautiful video. You're a great couple and Ana is so beautiful. Such an easy going and sweet lady.

Well next time come in Croatia in July and August, but not to Adriatic, come inland... You can see Zagreb, Osijek, National Park "Kopački rit", Varaždin (home land for meal "Turkey with dumplings", Kumrovec (birth place of Marshal Tito), Smiljan, (birth place of Nikola Tesla), Lipik with ergela of the Lipizzaner horse, and of corse don't miss in 1st sunday in August "Sinjska Alka" - a knight tournament with 300 years of tradition, the last in Europe And i forget, inland you will eat better ;) Most famous meals are: Sarma, Fish-paprikaš (in Osijek), Zagorski štrukli, Zagrebačke kremšnite i Samoborske kremšnite, Makovnjača te Orehnjača ;)
