It's part 5 of our Dynamic Component series. In this video, we will build on the last few videos - so make sure you watch the rest of them first! We are going to jump right in and make a frame to show how you can control the size and material size. This may seem simple, but this is essential because we show you how different sub-components inside of a dynamic component interact with each other.

The logic throughout the creation process makes it incredibly easy to follow. The best series on Dynamic components ever.

I really appreciate your series on Dynamic Components, so very helpful. Working in the shop and having my computer accessible with plans already completed makes is simple, when speaking to clients, to make modifications to what "they" want and seeing it immediately. When they are happy, so am I.

Brilliant series. So useful, I've never fully understood dynamic components but they speed my workflow so much when designing kitchens. Definitely remaking my units using this video.

Thank you Aaron, for dismantling the dynamic components in such a dictative way.

I am a cabinetmaker, it would be great if you could, in advance, fully model a base cabinet with 2 doors. 1 drawer, 1 interior shelf, and counter top. Then in detail, explain the hierarchy to coding that would drive sizing, and the best work flow to applying dynamic components

Most of the cabinet can be designed with the info here. I did draw one, so far without drawers, but I'm trying hard. What I need at the moment is how to do the thickness of the board.

OMG!! I wanted to learn how to make dynamic components for years, but looked too complicated. Thank you so much! it's still kinda complicated, but at least I have the tools to try now. Great work!

This series is great for doing design of containers that carry a custom "branding" of many sizes in packaging components. Used to use similar abilities in SolidWorks to achieve but was unaware SketchUp had this type of flexibility.

Great stuff Aaron. Very useful. I will try this out. It would be useful to include things like backing boards, mounts and glass... then, in a future lesson, tell us how to create a materials list for print-out. Love your work mate! Cheers... Chris Mathers. Lowood, Queensland. Australia

Great series Aaron. Maybe move toward showing how you could use these techniques for creating standard size windows/door which also open when clicked? Or even cabinetry with variable numbers of shelves. Excellent work!

Really enjoying this series Aaron. I don`t have Sketchup Pro (Yet!) But I do use MS Visio a lot, and the shape sheet functions are very similar to this, if anything, Sketchup seems to be much easier to program. Nice one Mate, keep em coming.

AWESOME!!! Please add a center rail that is sizable in width and stays centered in the open space. Like 2” stiles, 2” top rail, 3” bottom rail, and 1” center rail.

Great series. Would love to see how DC functions - principally orientation/rotation - could set say the directions various child components faced. Think of a row of spotlights pointing at a stage or focus object. Looking forward to the next one so have subscribed :)

Just what I was looking for. can this be done the same way using a mitered frame? AND would also like to add a puzzle-shaped lap joint that won't change when the frame size changes. TIA

So this has been a massive help in getting my skills up to help me draw up cabinets for work. only thing that i seem to run in to is when i save a item and then try to import it in to a new file it loses the component options when clicked on, which means i cant change size what i need

Could you duplicate a part say the stiles. So if you modify 1 side the other one changes as well. So they behave like components.
