Fantastic series -- great description of dynamic components with a rich mixture of generally improving models (a BiG thank you to the detail of hollowed sides so that the edges can be hidden ((with a clear explanation of why)) to make a cleaner presentation ). I really appreciate the inclusion of typos/clickos/etc and how/why they happened -- great instruction!!!

Thanks a lot guys. I keep watching the whole tutorial, even if it is something I know how to do. I always learn something new in the details or workflow.

Excellent, keep it going! The cleanup of the lines at the end was awesome, great trick! Much appreciated. Heading towards the onClick programming!

I personally don’t mind seeing more frames ;) love this DC series.

Really enjoy this, especially being broken down into bite sized lessons. I would suggest with careful planning this could be built with 2 components, the corner and the rail. Then the corner could be rotated (and/or mirrored) and the rails the same.

What if length and width are not equal? Corner, the length rail, and the width rail?
@agdragon14 жыл бұрын
@@towTruck42 been a while since I reviewed this video. You could use separate components for stile and rail. If the only difference is length, then you would just adjust that dimension.

Love the series! Am hoping you cover incorporating an attribute for drawing specific materials, as I have yet to be able to find the syntax for calling them out in an on click or drop down list. My custom template has materials like "Interior Trim" that I would like the option of choosing in the 6 panel dynamic door component I am creating along with this series.

One more data point. Went to extension warehouse and downloaded latest dynamic extension for both 2019 and 2020 versions and now they work. Back to the lessons!

Hi, I know I am a little late for this but how can I keep textures from scaling with the model? Woodgrain becomes distorted when changing the length of a board.

This is a really useful series, good work. I guess that if you wanted to keep the slope at a constant angle you would have to make extra dynamic components to take care of this when scaling.
@douglasharley24404 жыл бұрын
i think you'd just have to add one (maybe two?) new attributes to the existing components to define the angle. i am guessing that like "lengthx" (or however it's spelled) there must be some attribute for that angle, and you can just have that be mapped to some new parameter...lol, or i might be totally wrong. xD peace

I would model the edges as two separate pieces (a rectangle and a ramp). Then resize the rectangle to the size in put minus the ramp width.

Thanks for a video! I have a question - Is there any way for a ladder to have an option of adding more bars when resizing?

You can provide attributes to group also, it is not necessary to convert them into component. Go to window and select dynamic attributes from the drop down...

I believe that would be possible using an 'IF' logical function. Take a look at the Logical Functions link from this overall help file: help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/dynamic-components-math-function-examples

This was brilliant. Thank you. Question.....seems like it would be beneficial to move your axis for each component to match the outer perimeter of the overall size? More straight forward for the formulas....? Thoughts? Hope to see more examples of Dynamic Components. Thanks again Aaron

Very useful videos, thanks. Could you do a simple(?) example that shows how to pass global size data through a couple of layers of nested subcomponents so that individual pieces can get proper size and position information?

Im enjoying this series and have put it to use in wardrobes but Im having a problem on the thickness on the bottom and top panel I wanted to keep a 3cm thickness of these panels but can't seem to hard code it, as they just increase or decrease no mater what I do. so maybe you could do a episode on wardrobe. Thanks again Aaron appreciate your tuition vids.

I hopew these help. For hands on assistance, bring your .SKP file over to forums.sketchup.com and someone can help troubleshoot your specific file!
@agdragon14 жыл бұрын
Have you tried hardcoding 3cm? This would be "=3", not just "3". The equal sign locks it in, where just a number is more like reporting the size.

Hello. First of all, thank you for your channel. Even I thought I "know" to use Sketchup you showed me I know nothing ;) I am trying to make some project with dynamic component, but I am struggle with two functions - dynamic size of the entire cabinet and making the door animated (turn around Z axis). I think I have already done a lot of work with all the linking all the attributes which works fine. I also made some model, where animation ("rotz"0, 90, 180) was working, but now, I am trying to build let`s say a door frame, which should be definable and moreover being able to animate them. It is very frustrating for me that I can`t find the way how to make the model (and DC) working with those two function :( For example, when I click the component to animate, it turns the object in a proper way, but the scale get distorted :( Could you please make some sample of this as I think a lot of people can use it. Thank you.

Great series! I've been using dynamic components extensively for the past couple years. Any plans for any updates/upgrades? I understand that it's been a very long time since the last update (years). I know there a lots of wish lists out there. Thanks!

Dynamic component tool is not working correctly in both SKU 2019 and 2020 to allow me to follow your skill builder. The component option box does not show user options after selecting to let the user to edit the value is set in Attributs and I hit the apply button. I using Mac OSX 10.15.3, Catalina and have a AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4GB. I really appreciate your effort in putting this series together. Is there some bug in SKU causing this behavior?

Can you show us how to give the user the ability to pick a frame style?. Would love a tutorial about that. Also where do I find more about dynamic component is been a struggle to learn about it I would almost rather learn Revit families at this point :(

I want to know how to use only the 4 profiles with the cut angles to generate the report
@SketchUp4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, if you use cut angles, they distort when you change the size of the frame (which was the point of using the dynamic component). If all you are looking for is to report on a number of pieces, you can just group together cut pieces and use Generate Report!

It's really nothing new, I knew that a few years ago. And besides, Fredo plugin - box stretching and Strech by area Plugin is much better and faster. And with that, it makes the dynamic component superfluous
