I grew up in East Harlem & everything he said was spot on. That dead end with St.Anns & the nuns was a dangerous spot because it was never lit. A lot of people didn’t know the chopped cheese originated on 110th & 1st so I’m glad he said that.

This area is always interesting to me. They got CitiBikes outside of those projects posted up lol. I don’t think I would’ve seen that in a million years. I always chuckle when I see… “out of towners” bopping through the hood with their backpacks looking at folks in their “natural habitat” lol. It’s so odd. Gentrification has already taken over a good chunk of Harlem. Even in the most hood spots there’s some brunette from Texas who “loves Harlem” and claims it like they’re born n raised. Or some transplant from North Carolina who wants to get closer to their “black roots” after learning how to be black in college lol.

I spent 2 years in East Harlem as a missionary. When I go to New York now with other people they never understand why I couldn’t care less about anything but going up past 100th street and Lexington and hitting up the bodegas and hanging out with all the good people there in Harlem. I saw some crazy shit when I was walking and knocking doors in all those projects but man I miss and love the people of Spanish Harlem. The Dominicans and Puerto Ricans especially, good food! I remember the movie Strapped. I know the movie was based in Brooklyn, but I never knew it was shot in Harlem. Good tour of the p's and you got Foster and Taft right next door.

Respect, I’m NuyoRican from BXNYC. In NYC my headspace was always on “no hope” when I joined to serve in the USAF it changed me made me believe in hope. It opened up my world view serving my Country. I still go back to the BX and talk my gente to get out of ur comfort zone. I’m still NEW YORK.

I love New Yorkers. They seem so much more chill and intelligent than other places, especially other hoods. Nowhere near the senseless violence that you would see in places like Chicago or Baltimore.

@@davepluck5138 check the crime statistics. New York has 10xs the population with same or fewer murders. That’s a huge difference. Chicago has twice the murders with about 1/4 the population.

People love always talk about the few that bring negativity.. but if u live there or frequent there you know the projects are full of great hard working people just trying to live 💯. Born and raised in East Harlem! I love my East Harlem, and I love how everything is so accurate! I grew up on 108th and lex! Keep it up my guy, I love how happy you embrace our east Harlem! You should also talk about the racism there was between Puertoricans and Mexicans in the late 80’s - 90’s. I’m Mexican, but the stories my pops would tell me when he immigrated in East Harlem, was insane. I love this! Keep it up man 🙏🏽

I went to school here, MCSM. It’s nice to see the neighborhood again, so many memories. He wasn’t lying about the chop cheese sandwiches, they are the best. I used to get the BLT or chopped cheese from the deli after school almost everyday. Also the dude was on point, he really knows his stuff. Great video!

I grew up in East Harlem. We always have had some great people. Unfortunately, there were some homies who moved to the “the dark side of the Force” but for the most part just great people. We didn’t have much when we came from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 but to me we always had family. Look at all the pictures in his house. I have moved up in the world thanks be to GOD. However, my mom still lives in Franklin Plaza and it will always be home. I visited my 90 year old mom there yesterday. Beautiful people. Much ❤️ and respect for this young man in the video. He spoke from the heart ❤️ and told it like it is. Lots of great people in El Barrio. This video made my day and I thank you very much.

it looksspacious but its not. your shoulders are about 2 inches off the wall when walking. its just the cut that makes it look spacious. the rooms are nice sized tho depending on the apartment line. Some apartments have huge rooms and then others have rooms that are a little bigger than a closet. all in all we greatful for a roof.

I grew up in Chelsea PJ's and my mom had all white furniture with gold and wooden accents and a fireplace. She was raised in Johnson PJ's and she would always tell us "just because you live in the PJ's doesn't mean you have to be of the PJ's"
