This videos explains so much. I am an NRI/OCI born and raised in London and whenever I go back to India, my family and extended family are like "wow you have a Pro iPhone...wow you have AirPods...wow you have AppleWatch....Macbook etc" I genuinely buy these products because I love the usability of Apple and have always owned iPhones (because they are just phones in the UK/US and not seen as much as status symbols). I could not believe how much social status Indians placed on owning an iPhone as if you have "made it" if you have one. Go to any office in London, New York or San Francisco, I guarantee you 90% of people will have an iPhone but nobody will feel like they have "made it" from owning one

One of the primary reasons for the TATA Nano's failure in India was that consumers often prioritized status over practicality. I recall a specific individual in my area who purchased a Nano; unfortunately, he faced ridicule from others simply because he chose a "cheap car." This reflects how societal perceptions can heavily influence consumer behavior and preferences.

I take public transportation to commute, have 4 meals a day healthy one goes to gym 5 times a week to gym. Own a lenovo laptop worth 80k which I bought in 2017. Its still works seamless, have been planning to buy a scooty to ease my commute for last 3 month but dropping the idea as it will eat a chunk of my savings. Currently I have around 4lac of saving. And portfolio of 80k. I am happy with my lifestyle. My manor expenses are rent & food.

Great video. Simple and well explained. The statistic regarding the people who have actually bought iphone using EMI is actually pretty mind boggling, considering what the GDP of India is. Two new terminologies learnt were the Mimetic Desire and the Thick and thin desire. Its so simple to classify our needs into them now that I think of it.

One of my close friends recently bought an iPhone 16 Plus on EMI-not because he needed it or had the money, but to fit in with his group of 'friends' who all have iPhones and teased him for not having one. Now, he regrets the purchase because many of the features he used on Android aren’t available on the iPhone. To make things worse, he's now financially struggling, almost bankrupt, and searching for a room that's around three times cheaper than where he used to live. It's a harsh reminder of how show-off culture and peer pressure can lead to poor decisions that hurt us in the long run.

I am not influenced by other people neither I care about status symbol that is why I have very less friends (but few friends I have are most genuine one who care about me). I never spend on depreciating assets rather I like investment on real assets for better future of mine and my family. I really appreciate you touching on this topic mohak, but actually what we need is solution, please do make videos about how to tackle it, because tbh it's unhealthy and very tiring. wanting to spend on yourself is ok but being that self aware that you can distinguish between your actual desires and desires that the society has conditioned you with. Even if someone suggests and installs any other social media app in my phone, I find it to be unnecessarily occupying my phone's storage, so I immediately delete it. I don't even bother taking selfies although I occasionally take photos through rare cameras if I find that something looks beautiful for example a beautiful place / scenery. And I am not interested in apple products as it's being run by a graduate from business school who has little to no knowledge about technology due to which apple has almost stopped innovating (as it's evident with each iphone launch every year) although I respect Steve Jobs as he was a visionary.

This video makes me feel so good about myself compared to the rest of the country's youth. I bought an iphone 2 years ago for 90k because of 3 main reasons: the ecosystem integration with my existing apple devices, the ease of use for someone not into customising their OS and using a lot of apps, and the decent 3-camera setup for its price. But the most important condition was that I COULD AFFORD IT as it was less than my 1 month salary (not bragging), hence I did not give a second thought when I finally decided to buy one after research. @@WaveRider1989 That's true, but then you see the absurdity of spending so much on a gadget compared to your needs (which are so much cheaper in comparison). My logic about expensive purchases is this: If the purchase helps me increase my productivity and earn more money proportionally, then it's worth it. No matter the actual cost. Basically a lesson on opportunity costs. If a 2 lac purchase will help me earn 4 lacs, then it's worth it. Otherwise not. Expensive purchases that put only strain on your wallet, with no return, are not worth it. Hence it is highly subjective to what you can do with it.

As a freelancer it has proved to be the best investment. But then i see students around demanding iPhone from their parents just for the sake of being cool. I couldn’t even imagine that when i was a kid. Although I’m 2001 born.

Lovely topic n well covered! Something I realized how big a statement it is to just hold an iPhone during my last visit to India, and it’s not just iPhones. Middle class kids in USA work in McDonalds and also eat in McDonalds but in India kids want to eat in McDonalds but not work there - they feel that’s a low level job. Gen-Z needs to learn a lot, they want to live like American kids but they don’t realize most American kids start working early n spend from their earnings but most Indian kids (there may be exceptions) want to have the same luxury (eat in McDonalds, have expensive phone n bikes) but at parent’s cost… I just pity the parents who struggle to fulfill these expensive wishes and for the kids lack of awareness n sense of responsibilities!

Have been using Moto edge 50 pro for like 6+ months now. 1) I got it for 25k when it launched (exchanged my old samsung m51 for 4k discount) 2)This 25k phone got me= •IP68x water resistance •curved 144hz display •camera quality on par/or even better in some cases with samsung s24 •Phone recharges within 20-30 minutes (depends on charger you get 68w vs 125w) •Amazing battery life lasts whole day easily • has snapdragon 7 3rd gen which is Very good for what i do with the phone • has wireless charging support upto 50watt Overall the best phone i have ever had The satisfaction this purchase gave me considering im the kind of person that looks for value for money the most when buying stuff is insane. Moto did a good job for sure❤ (Edit: Im a 25yo DevOps Engineer with 23+variable lPA salary with a remote job, Will never buy an iPhone or will delay buying a car as long as possible because don't need it at all for now ola/uber does the job)

It's been around 5 years since I last used an iPhone as my daily smartphone of choice. My entire family uses iPhones now, and they usually use FaceTime and iMessage (they have given me an iPad as an alternative to talk to them). For the last 5 years, I have strictly used android going from Samsung to OnePlus to now, Nothing. I do get the feeling of carrying something with a premium design and flagship quality giving you confidence but even my 20k Nothing phone 2a attracts a lot of positive attention and it has allowed me to feel confident too. It's not just about the iPhone only, it's about the people who are perceiving the device you are carrying be an iPhone or whatever, if it gets enough praises it makes you feel more confident, social and 'cool'.

1. Reality and Perception: The phrase suggests that reality is subjective and that what people perceive as true is often influenced by their beliefs and perspectives. Therefore, nothing can be universally accepted as an absolute truth. 2. Freedom and Responsibility: By stating that everything is permitted, it implies that individuals have the freedom to act as they choose. However, this freedom comes with the responsibility to consider the consequences of one's actions. It emphasizes the importance of personal ethics and the impact of choices on the world. 3. Challenging Authority and Dogma: The phrase encourages questioning established norms, beliefs, and authority. It urges individuals to think critically and not blindly follow rules or doctrines imposed by others. In summary, "nothing is true, everything is permitted" encourages skepticism, personal freedom, and ethical responsibility, urging individuals to seek their own truth and act according to their moral compass.

Lost my phone (Samsung Galaxy) in 2016, which I bought from my 1st salary. it cost me around 8k, which was the most expensive phone for me at that time. it was a very emotional moment for me. That day, I decided I will Never buy a phone worth more than 20k. and I'm still following that. So NO iPhone for me, I guess.

iphone isnt even worth it... there are so many good phones under 25k/20k like realme or poco or redmi provide such good devices under 25k and they are more than sufficient for the functions that a phone should provide and they even provide decent gaming experiences if you are interested in that... imo iphone wale logo ko ignore karke we should be going on with our own lives..
