Tolkien is a big reason why I am who I am today. I was raised watching the Rankin & Bass version of The Hobbit and Return of the King. It inspired my love for fantasy, for heroism, for names, and for words; which subsequently inspired me to have an interest in linguistics, eymology and ultimately be a writer (I even declared it in a book I wrote when I was 8). Because duty and honor were instilled in my heart, I went on to join the infantry after 9-11, still writing, and eventually got published in a national magazine in 2015. I listen to the audiobook of LotR constantly, because the prose are in present tense. I memorized choice songs by heart, and it also helps lull me to sleep at night to this very day. So, kudos to you, Tolkien lovers, and all hail the Grandmaster.

Those Harper collins versions on lotr are actually rare as f, you can’t find them online, and I’ve only seen them once in a second hand bookshop in rural New Zealand. My mum has a copy that she bought in the 90s and I love them so much

The omnibus addition you’ve got is the first edition I got. My dad gave it to me for my 11th birthday when I was on my way to becoming a massive fan. It’s completely wrecked but I’ve still got it. I love Tolkien and can’t wait to read more of him

Recommend: A BBC CD or cassette tapes, entitled Farmer Giles of Ham, a broadcast of that story, wonderfully done. As an addition however, there's a segment of The Lord of the Rings (not included in the films), 3 chapters, where Frodo and company meet Old Man Willow, saved by Tom Bombadil and then taken to his house. This short recording is the best thing the BBC ever did, and it's very haunting, especially when Tom and Goldberry recall the deep past of Middle Earth, remembering events in the Silmarillion.

Cool collection. I don't have many Tolkien but my claim to fame is a first edition Silmarilion that my uncle gave me and it sent to members of the Tolkien society before it's official release

Have you got Tolien's Library by Oronzo Cilli. or his works on Beowulf, or articles he published at Oxford. His book on Monsters and Critics. And I guess you know that Frodo is a corruption of King Froda in Beowulf. If you want to know more about Tolkien's passion for Beowulf then watch the KZbin videos by Signum University with Professor Tom Shippey giving 3 talks about it. Shippey is an expert on Tolkien.

Can you share the ISBN for the illustrated editions by Alan Lee. I had the Fellowship of the Ring edition which I misplaced, and now I cannot find these flexibind/semi paperback editions, but only hardbound illustrated editions which I do not want.

doesn't matter. i read tolkien's books not because what story is written in the books but how the story is written. he had the gift of marvelous story telling that rarely been equaled. so, i'll stick with his books for..ever
