When I read the Memphis Mafia book it still had an earlier title: "An Oral History of Elvis Presley" (or close to that). I thought it was the best book about Elvis I'd ever read, even better than "Last Train to Memphis" and its sequel. She does quality work and now I can see why--she's very bright.

Alana is the best when it comes to writing about Elvis! I wish she could write a book with Billy and Jo Smith about their years with Elvis! Of course I don't know if they would do it. But they have so many fantastic stories they tell on their podcast. I just love them! Billy always tells the truth about things. He also said some people will tell stories that weren't even there in some things they tell.

Great read. What is tragic is that you can see that love destroyed Elvis. Near the end all the women left him. Elvis knew Ginger was too immature & a gold digger. He tries to purchase her love because the poor soul can not sleep alone. He kept falling in love, I mean infatuation. Ginger did look like his dear mom. A beautiful soul. Gone for a long time now. Mr. Dream catcher.

I've always had trouble with the Memphis Mafia - the contradictions and bravado always made me feel their lives were so enmeshed with Elvis,' it became about them, not him. I appreciate Alana distinguishing the male perspective. I find Elvis' musicians more straight forward and objective. Members such as Klein and Hodge seemed more empathetic to Elvis' health. I was told Alanna is a feminist that demasculates Elvis which put me off. Guralnick is also my favourite author so if Stig recommends her books, I'll try one. Greetings from England and thanks for all you do for fans.

I like her books. Wonder how she rates Larry Gell. Was he really that close a friend of EP ?? Was E that much interested to know more about Hinduism and even Judaism...?? How sincere+honest were those hours+hours with Elvis in the bathroom..? Did Elvis got closer OR further away from ...God, the Bible (which versión.?) and the many EDITED and biased versions of ...historical wrong facts !! Does anyone know more ???

Elvis will be timeless through history like Mozart, or Shakespeare, so to have written so many historically important books on Elvis, especially, "Elvis and the Memphis Mafia," which I rate as the best overall book on Elvis, almost an encyclopedia of Elvis.

your right only Elvis could save Elvis. his biggest struggle was prisilly, she wud never let him go, & he begged her to, which is how she liked him, on his knees.
@anY-bf9ud
@anY-bf9ud 2 жыл бұрын
When did Elvis beg her to let him go,? He never wanted the divorce, and I personally think they would have reconciled, any lady after her was a mere comfort blanket. Elvis was very ill and very emotionally drained the last 4 yesrs of hid ife, he needed the stability of just being able to be himself with the help snd support of loved ones by his side whom shwed him empathy not scorn, and certainly not ridicule or judgement. I've not read the book but I've seen the interview with then men mentioned here and it was upsetting to the say the least.

Your intro is too long and annoying. The animal cruelty with the beautiful chimp scatter really upset me and disappointed me about Elvis, if what they said was true, that Elvis hit him with a pool cue and what Lamar Fike did was damn criminal. So mean.

Yes @ Insomniac I've heard about Scatter ,and how he died of loneliness in the enclosure in the back of Graceland because he got to big & hostile@ times to others. I don't know how true this story was so don't quote me, but I sure hope not 😔.I would like to find true unbiased info on what pets he had though 🤔 ,to me it it says alot about a person on the way they treat animals .
