Can someone recommend some video games of this genre? I'm not quite sure what kind of game these tutorials are supposed to be teaching us to make. A platformer? A point and click adventure? It looks really interesting though.

So grateful to have found your channel! Would you consider making videos about incorporating platforming/jumping mechanics into the game?

I am super excited because while I love classic RPG maker view, side scroller in my opinion works for horror better simply because your sight is limited. Since I’m a huge fan of Siren and other stealth based horror games, I wonder if it’s possible to do a basic stealth mechanic in side scroller on RPG Maker?
@sidemv Жыл бұрын
Hi HanakiHan, your question is a bit vague, there are many different types of stealth games. In general though with a switch in the AI of enemies you can temporarily turn off their ability to detect the player, perhaps when on a specific id region, or when using a skill. If this mechanic is so much in demand in the future I will see about making a dedicated tutorial. Thanks for mentioning it anyway ;)

@@sidemvthanks for your answer ٩( ᐛ )و I meant in a sense of hiding behind an obstacle through crouching or standing behind it for example
@sidemv Жыл бұрын
@@HanakiHan I understand, as I was saying, in general it is important to first create the enemy AI, and from there manage a switch that activates or deactivates it's detection logic based on your needs.

I just saw a line of sight plugin that makes it to where enemy's can see you from x amount of blocks away and if you hide behind non passable objects they can't see you and stop hunting you. I'm currently using it in my game so it's definitely possible!

Glad this finally showed up in my youtube recommendations, because I just started working on some mini-games in MZ. Have you made any tutorials about jumping and attack collisions yet? The biggest issue I've had is figuring out how to make a character jump onto platforms that are higher or lower than where the player is standing... Obviously we can just use a Movement Route event that makes the player auto-jump from one tile to another, but that seems really clunky and lacks the smoothness of a dedicated sidescrolling game. Climbing diagonal stairs is a similar janky mess.

I've just watched all your videos, this is amazing, love the effort gone into making these videos, really engaging and love the ascetic. I've really struggled to know how to bring my own art style to life in a game. I've had rpg mv for years, then I tried Bakin, and rpg paper maker. I always wanted a background image instead of the tile set flooring so this platformer side scrolling effect works so much better. Can I use photos as a background layer? Can I use a photo as a sprite? (say I wanted to use a cut out of my brother from a picture, could I use that to create a sprite or is there a limit to pixels in a sprite?) Love the videos, looking forward to more tutorials

Thanks so much for the support! Of course you can use photos for layers and sprites. In the maps remember to use an aspect ratio of 16:9, while for the sprites you can use my templates as a reference for the sizes ;)

I am begging you to drop the text to speech (although for Square it's not so bad? The TTS sounds painfully robotic but I guess on an actual robot its a little more fitting) I don't know what you sound like in real life but it can't be worse than this
@SaltedMallows Жыл бұрын
It's not Text to Speech it's a really heavy voice filter. Like "Alien" or something in Voice mod probably dunno. Though I agree it could use a little work but if you're reading this Channel bro, it's not that important just focus on releasing the videos I'm dying over here for the next tutorial Lmao
