Stranded: Alien Dawn is a futuristic settlement survival game where we have to help a little group of people survive on an alien world after their ship crashes into it. Hang on, I've heard of that before!
OK, so comparisons to this game and Rimworld are inevitable, because Stranded: Alien Dawn is a bit like Rimworld but in 3D. There some differences here and there but I think saying it's like 3D Rimworld is acceptable, and that's fine with me because a 3D Rimworld sounds amazing!
After carefully selecting our survivors we see them crash down onto the planet Saltu, a hot and humid tropical jungle planet. Once they're over the shock of crash landing we get to work building a shelter and moving our resources into a lovely stockpile.
We also begin to explore things in the local area because we have no idea what anything is. Big pointy flowers! Gigantic grass! Meat bananas! They're all there!
We seem to muddle through OK, happening across only friendly wildlife, and our people are so happy they even throw a little party! Although it does seem that food is running low...

Glad to see you checking this game out. One of my fav games. Couple of tips for you: 1) observe everything quickly, it unlocks more stuff for you to build/farm/gather/etc. 2) dandelion spores are some of the best food in this biome, they don't spoil when kept under a roof and each tree supplies a lot of them. 3) research Construction Basics ASAP it's how you build actual buildings instead of just shelters. I remember when Dave played this... and it was really fun to watch. I am very much looking forward to watching your series of this game. So far things are going well. As for "red bananas", they do exist in real life... "Red bananas are a group of varieties of banana with reddish-purple skin. Some are smaller and plumper than the common Cavendish banana, others much larger. When ripe, raw red bananas have a flesh that is cream to light pink in colour."

Well...this just became destination viewing for me. Very happy to see this on the channel. I think you'll have great fun with it. My only suggestion now would be don't underestimate tailoring. I ran into many, many colonists running around without a stitch on (and being surprisingly sad about that) because I didn't make clothing early enough.

All of your survivors can have both a ranged and a melee weapon. Which i highly suggest, or when creatures come at your people, they'll try to punch them to death. Which usually results in injuries that take forever to heal.

It might be a good idea to schedule a one-hour relax period every 4 hours rather than a big one in the evening. That might prevent exhaustion/malaise more effectively. You could think of them as meals, coffee breaks and (proper British) tea -- crucumber sandwiches and a cuppa please!

Nova can gain 10 in interlect if sent on one of the sprcial expeditions. I believe it's called something like call source. If she gets that interlect 10, she will become amazing for research.

@@TheGeekCupboard Nova will NOT research, she is excluded from researching. But, yes, send someone to Call Source in the hot-air balloon (when researched and built) and they'll be Megaminded. (Incapable is more like incompetent in that respect. She's great thinking in straight lines - like tactics and shooting - but not complex thoughts) Interested get double experience - Indifferent get half experience in the associated skills Slow characters are high risk, as they can get caught - but keep them in the base and that's never... well, rarely... an issue. Oh, and never take family members together! Not good.

Can anyone tell me if Penge has ever played FOUNDATION? It's a city builder type game, well more "village builder" than city, but you get what I'm saying. You build a medieval style village which grows over time and you facilitate it's growth, taxes, allegiances, etc. It's a lot of fun if you've never played it. Still technically in Early Access, but it's been around for years and I've personally put about 1000 hours into it. It'd probably be a good fit for this channel.

42:00 by now I see 4 survivors not making it through the winter due to freezing to death... hopefully it is not such an issue in the Saltu-Region but last time I played (long time ago) tailoring was more or less a given first research since producing enough clothes for winter was difficult. And keeping enough well made clothes in storage was more or less a cosntant 1-person-job. Hopefully they adjusted some things in these points.

In this biome it is more a case of hats etc to help them stay cool and (a bit) dry. I usually go for lightning rod research (after losing a survivor in my first game to lightning strike!!). ⚡😵😵
