A year ago now, so maybe learned some game mechanics better. I can give examples of what I think of this guide: Place just enough storage, since those count towards how many attackers spawns. Manually set stockpile to store Construction materials only, 8 of them. Mix in a couple of rows of Shelves, specify the closest ones to the campfire to hold food items, One slot per item, Store here first. Later on can use this to put specific content close to where it is needed. Can mark something built (or to be), will then copy the restrictions and some adjustments). Place stuff as close as you can, think of what are needed for cooking and crafting. Need only 1 campfire. Place table first (close to food and campfire), then you immediately can place a chair, but before place it, hold SHIFT and you can keep placing. Can save some space in the beginning by placing sleeping spots between storage rows, will not block access, assign sleeping so closest to their regular work spot. Craft early on earplugs, then no sleep disturbance, unless very early on are placed some tiles away each other. First to research is Lightning rod that takes only 3 hours, lightning target players and stuff close to the base, can appear on day 3 so build it ASAP. On Activities set all to Healing=1, those need heal and not drafted will lay down and others will heal. In case all are injured, then select a person (least damaged or good to heal) to not wait for treatment. Can self-heal, but larger chance of wrong treatment and need of anti-biotic. Craft some bandages early, so discover Clothblossom early so can harvest some. Also prioritize getting healing-balm and anti-biotic, need research and plants (Glitter cap and Grain). Healing can take time, so try avoid damages, can learn from other players (YT) what tactics they use, but the main thing early are to get ranged weapons and attack early yourself, use range and pull back, repeat, maybe use one as bait that kite. Schedule suggestion: Work 05-18. Relax 19-20, Sleep 21-4. Can adjust manually by tell someone to sleep, or eat, or relax. Some relaxation methods level up certain skills, try out yourself. This was only a few things, good luck!

When you want one of your survivors to go and craft bandages (or anything else for that matter) asap, instead of changing the whole schedule and priorities system, which you will then later have to change back, you can just select your survivor and then right click the workbench and hit 'craft bandages'. This direct order will make them drop what they're doing and start doing the thing you ordered them to at once.

Very helpful dude! Just something else I've noticed in my playthrough so I'll throw it here: On the survivor stats, you'll see they might also have stats marked with (Interested) and (Indifferent)... Interested: They get a Happiness boost when doing an activity related to that skill Indifferent: They loose some Happiness when doing an activity related to that skill

You should keep your food in storage boxes instead of shelving. You can't fit as much in a box, true. But it helps food last slightly longer because it's closed from the elements. I use stockpiles for construction, boxes for raw food, boxes for cooked food, shelves for nonperishables, and I use wardrobes each set for either weapons or clothing. Allows storage to be maximized and optimized early on.
@_Grumpy_Panda_
@_Grumpy_Panda_ Жыл бұрын
In your stockpile/storage shelves, while the storage shelves CAN'T hold big construction items, they can hold smaller items, apparel, weapons, etc, and the stockpile CAN hold food. Its a good idea to click the List icon in each of the storage areas you have and assign them what they can and can't hold, so the shelves you put down for food, deny everything except raw and cooked food, and in the stockpiles allow everything EXCEPT the raw and cooked food, making sure your resources are close to where you need them, food at the kitchen/dining room, resources for crafting near the workshop. Later on when setting up your base, you can put a foundation down, then stockpiles on the foundation spaced one row apart, with a gap through the middle or on the side to let them walk between the rows, then stick a roof on it, making it so they never decay, and make each section hold a specific type of resource so you can customize how much of each one you want to be able to hold, like wood, stone, and hay being gathered in larger amounts than say ore, or scrap metal, you might have larger stockpiles or more stockpiles for just those resources, and allows you to place them within your building complex by building your workshop/living area on the side of it and connecting by a door.

Really appreciate the guide! Gave me a lot to think about and the presentation was well done. Thank you! As for my suggestion. When you craft, use "times" instead of "until" when constructing weapons and clothing. The reason is that if I only need four guns and use "TIMES," it will only make 4 weapons period. If I use it UNTIL it keeps making weapons until I have a stockpile of four weapons always on hand. TIMES only makes what you need, UNTIL always keeps crafting until you have that set number. For me, I use "UNTIL" for food items. And "TIMES" for items like clothing.

If I have the extra resources, I'll still used until for weapons and clothing, or go back and change it to until later. Having that stockpile means if they wear a gun or clothing item out, they will immediately go pick up another of the same one they had, and then someone will go and replace it in crafting later, so I always have at least one extra of everything for each person. Helps remove some micro managing later.

My third try is the one I'm having some success with. I ended up using 2 of the same survivors as you (I setup my team b4 seeing this)...Quen for building and the farming/chef lady. I have been using Nova instead of Ken, although learning about Ken's salvage boost I wish I had picked him sorta. Nova can't have a breakdown though, which is excellent. She's a simpleton I guess (no int, cant research) but she's a great fighter. Instead of ol' no crafting bug eyes I'm using Simon. Ostensibly he may seem like a worse choice as his int is much lower starting, but he also crafts and is interested in it. His int has leveled up to 7-8 within a fews hrs too. Research feels pretty fast with him and I haven't had any issues falling behind with tech. He's also decent at combat. So Simon alternates between research and crafting (quen backing up crafting) while he and Nova have handled any early game combat easily, leaving the other two to build, cook and farm in most cases. On top of all that farmy cooker, quen (or whatever his name is) are cheerful and Nova cant have meltdowns. Happiness is still a concerns and ive had near disaster, but more likely due to me being a day 1 noob. Simon himself is easier to manage than 4 tempestuous emo freaks always about to break. It feels like a good. combo

A good tip is investing in manure. Observe manure. Research tame and grab a manure producing animal. Manure is fertilizer for crops. Bigger yields. Manure can become red fuel cans at production table. 4 large animals produce enough manure for tons of fuel. Lots of red fuel means gas motor for electricity is well supplied. Trade scenario let's you sell fuel for decent price. Enjoy.

Pro tip: start with Hann stranded alone (Solo), research lightning rods ASAP, build one. Gg, you just won the game. Food is a non-issue with his ability, research will be slow - but you have nothing but time after you get a basic shelter up which is easy after you build a lightning rod, avoiding getting sniped by the sky. Seriously, it’s far too accurate. Plus, his physical is boosted making gathering and scavenging a breeze.

No, you can't make someone who will "never" do something do it. There's a random chance you'll have a 5th survivor join your camp within the first few days but other than that you have to build the exploration balloon and search for people. I know this comment is old and you probably figured it out, but just in case someone else is wondering.

Your definition of really really important is like my definition of eating ice cream, while it's really really important to eat, because we will die otherwise, it's not really really really important to eat ice cream. It's not a game where you need super optimized people for it to work, try the all have 0 zero skill options and you will see it isn't all that much of a problem to play the game with no advantage, so it DEFINITELY not really really really really important to have optimized characters. Now the guy that get more scrap when scrap is a super limited item on the map just seems weird. Picking the super researcher with travel debuff just seems stupid as 99.9999% of the game is about travel optimization, she can only work best on research and not observation as her travel kills her efficiency if she does anything involved movement. Picking a guy with high construction is again just bad as the game does not have construction as a PRIMARY thing for your colony to do. Farming is again not important, you will overproduce stuff for farming super easy. What you need is super CRAFTERS and COOKS, those two jobs is really really really really really important. Travel speed is another important thing so someone like Simon is a top pick and Emelin comes with an extra happiness buff on all food she cooks.
@diablothe2nd894
@diablothe2nd894 Жыл бұрын
I agree with some of your points, especially about travel and needing crafters and cooks, though I only suggested Ken for the following reasons: This is a guide for BEGINNERS that don't know much about the quirks of the game. Metal is a limited resource and unless you fancy travelling aross the map, your only local source is the salvaging of ships, beyond that it's meteors which are random and beginners won't know this on their first play. Ken is also a badass at combat when just starting out, so helps a beginner have a fighting chance as they learn the game, the metal part is just a bonus to give a beginner more wiggle room. The choosing of Ken to salvage also indirectly gives the player the laser weapons early on to help them, which a beginner might not otherwise realise they can get through the salvage research. Further on in the video grains are mentioned for antibiotics. That tip definitely qualifies as "really really important" and isn't obvious until you hit winter and everyone dies from pneumonia.

Thank you for such a detailed comment. The game is very new and it's certainly possible some of my thoughts on it are incorrect. However, I'll go through my reasoning :) I'd like to say I don't script any of my videos so if I say something is "really really important" then it means I think it's important, sure, but I may be exaggerating its importance in the heat of the moment when recording and trying to think of what to say and such. 1. Optimised characters is important to get off to a good start IMO. Getting 2X Salvage materials definitely helps you to build more early game structures and gets you lots of useful items. 2. The research lady is so useful IMo bc otherwise I've found I need 2x research desks and researchers early game. With her, I only need 1. Yes, she takes more time to travel but then I free up another person as I don't need a second researcher. As I said in my vid the people you pick are also down to personal preference of how you play the game and I can only speak about what I find useful. You could be right that there's better people to pick. 3. RE Construction - Again you do a lot of this early game and IMO you do a fair amount of it throughout the game. So I do think it's useful to have this guy. RE Farming - it's a way of growing sustainable resources. Food and grain for medicine and alcohol is super useful. Starting out with a good farm going early on is really useful as you progress. 4. I can definitely see the value in the crafters and cooks. Perhaps this is a topic I can delve into in more depth in the future. Clearly we see things differently about the people we choose but it's great to have a discussion like this :) Can I ask if you felt the video as a whole has value for new players though?

@@Kysen Great point on Number 2! I did say in discord that I found research too slow and recommended two people to do research, and you found a way around that, so I'm definitely trying this strategy next timee! The game has only been out for mere days so I think at this point we're all still learning it, including me!

@@diablothe2nd894 Yeah your message RE research was the inspiration for my choice of her haha. Yeah it's tough bc as a KZbinr being first makes a big difference to my views and therefore my income. I try to get the info as good as I can but there really is a BIG pressure on KZbinrs to be first unfortunately

@@Kysen It's a tough job, I've tried it myself. It's a first come first serve world in media and it carries a lot of risk. Fair play that you're risking it for a biscuit! This was good quality content and kudos to you for connecting even with the less positive comments which most KZbinrs avoid. You're voice is soothing, almost ASMR level, editing is great too. 73 thousand people agree so keep doing what you're doing! :)

For me it was not so much her lack of crafting skills, but her reduced speed. Later game is basically just carrying stuff around...
