As a C’s fan, I just realized Wemby actually helped the Celtics win a championship. In the 2nd-to-last game of the season, Wemby single-handedly carried the Spurs to a win over the Nuggets. This led to the Nuggets being knocked down to the 2nd seed and entering the playoff bracket with the Timbwerwolves. The Twolves were quite literally designed to beat the Nuggets, and that’s exactly what happened. Obviously they would give him multiple looks and it would occasionally result in a double but they mostly played straight up and let him get whatever. They played to take away the lobs and corner threes. On picks, they would switch because Tatum was on the center and he's a fine defender. They would be happy having one of the guards switch onto Luka on a pick too. Even Horford and Tillman would play Luka straight up. When Porzingis was in, he'd play drop and that was the only time the defense really changed. On offense, the Celtics would attack Luka a lot. You mention Luka's flaws but the Celtics really game planned to pick apart those flaws. He needs to get in better shape so he's not gassing out by the 3rd quarter when a team like the Celtics game plans to go at him all game. Great _offensive_ performance. There's two ends of a basketball court, and you can't be great if you're effective on only one of them
@theraVen276 ай бұрын
That’s what’s going to end the remarkable Luka. Boston showed the league how to beat Luka. Go ahead and let Luka score 30, 40, 50.. it’s just going to tire him out and ice the rest of the Mavs.

@@-deedee idc if they bring in Steph curry. If he’s only getting one shot per quarter, he’s going to have poor performances. The 12 other guys all together averaged one shot per quarter vs Luka and Kyries over 200 shots in the series.

Good summary. Celtics is so, so deep. their starting five are 4 all stars and an almost 6th man of the year, and also containing 2 multiple defensive team players. And their bench is good enough. But there is no place to hide weak defenders against their offensive power on all 5, so their opponent needs great defense (which is why they struggle against the heat... because that's what the heat do) They may repeat yet if they now gather the confidence (and the spotlight)

Tatum and brown aren’t some perfect stylistic duo, they made the right trades that won them the chip this season and probably need to retool a bit to repeat. If they do what they nuggets did, and either lose a valuable piece or just don’t add anybody, they won’t repeat. Every other team will be better next season but despite all the hype, the Celtics still don’t have a top 5 player or somebody who can take over and win them the game, they won because they had 5 really good starters that all played well against the mavericks specifically. This is not an all time great team, this is a well put together team for a good run.

Saying Tatum and Brown cant take over is a bad take. The Celtics arent the fcking 2004 Pistons. The Celtics actually have superstars.

Tatum nor brown are superstars. They are stars. They can’t do what Luka can do or what lebron use to do. I’m not sure how that is up for debate.

@@YodaSmokes Yes but you don't NEED a top 5 player to win a championship. This is exactly what the video is arguing about. Just because a player isnt in an arbitrary top 5 list doesn't mean they are inable to take over a game. Bad take.

great video as usual. but I'd add one thing to this: since the drafting of JB and JT, Boston's biggest problem has been their lack of good decision-making. it's probably Brown's biggest flaw, Tatum is pretty guilty of it, and we've all seen Smart's terrible turnovers. the idea was to always get players that alleviate this. both Holiday and White (two players I love) are Swiss Army knives for sure. but their best skill by far - it's not their defense, not their shooting (Holiday can be flaky) - has to be their decision-making and high IQ. it also explains why, despite not even being close to superstars, both of them are pretty clutch - Holiday has an entire mixtape on KZbin, and we all saw the incredible putback by White last season against the Heat game 6. and since you mentioned OKC - they understand this all too well. it's why they traded Giddey for Caruso, who is the kind of player Holiday and White are.
