Old comment, but you've got this. It feels hopeless, I know, and survival is a struggle. One day you will not just be a survivor, one day you will flourish and thrive and exist in queer joy and the love you deserve. You never should have been made to worry for your safety or been rejected. Find ways to curate your own happiness outside of your house, maybe take up an artistic skill or something crafty or skillwork. Anything to keep your hands busy, make it seem like your mind is elsewhere. Use a hobby as a disguise. If you get any queer-related items, don't store them at home. Hide them in a box and bury it somewhere you can frequent or with someone you can trust. Make that closet as comfortable as you can, while you wait for the opportunity to kick better things into motion. We see you, we love you, and please stay safe. You deserve better, it just takes time. You aren't alone.

It isn't your only option if you get found out. You can run. Please do anything within your power before resulting to that option. There are organizations meant to protect queer homeless youth, people out there who would help you without knowing you, and you deserve life. There are always options in life, death removes any choice. If you'd like, I'd love to try to find you resources in your country. Again, you deserve life, and you deserve to be loved. It's a disgusting failing on your father's part that you feel unsafe. You will make it out of this. I know I'm just an internet guy but I care about you and I hope you get out safely. ❤

I have a new friend who has literal PTSD from war, bombs going of, people dying in front of him. We share shockingly similar symptoms of trauma. All I went through was a religious cult. Yeah there was torture, most of it was brainwashing to cause self inflicted torture in the congregation. Interesting what people will do in the name of God. Some most days it feels like I am in a war. Being I live in the bible belt, it's impossible to get away from someone trying to get me back into a cult. I have as of yet undiagnosed CPTSD, had a therapist agree but I don't have official paperwork on it. But it's obvious to me now that I know what it is. It explains the dissociation, the flashbacks, how my day can completely be ruined by something as simple as someone saying "Jesus loves you" in casual interaction. I live in Tennessee. They said they were in Florida. This whole quarter, maybe even half of the US is fucked up.

it is my belief that when you take upon the duty of raising a child or children (either through birth or adoption), that you essentially sign a pact stating "i am my child/children's safe zone/comfort zone for anything that may trouble them, be it physical, mental, and/or emotional", the importance of this "pact" is such that it ensures the child's overall wellbeing and development throughout the years allowing them to grow up to become well adjusted individuals. by breaking this pact of trust with your child or children you sever the bond of trust you have with them. the sheer levels of trauma that this severance causes is scarring and life changing (as we can see here), and it is why i so FIRMLY believe in the sheer importance of ensuring that EVERY SINGLE EMOTION your child or children has is at the very least validated. even if their reasons for having these feelings are "dumb" or "unjustifiable" it is of the utmost importance that they are allowed to have these feelings, to express them, to voice them. i know i dont have kids (yet) so take what i say with a grain of salt, but believe me when i tell you that empathy is one of the most important elements to child raising.

My grandmother on my dad's side is extremely conservative, I mean like Alex Jones levels conservative, and since I live in Florida, telling her i'm trans could lead to so so so so many problems for me, my family, and my doctors. It's scary, not being able to tell them this but then being forced by my family to go see them. She's very involved in my brother's lives and I try not to see her, but my family (especially my dad) still won't let me just leave her. See, my dad is christian, my mom is a converted catholic, but they are both (mostly) very supportive. Of course my dad less so since he grew up with the stigma, but he at least allows it even if he isn't the most politically correct or involved. But since they are christian, they go to church. I've became an atheist, I questioned alot of the beliefs I grew up with, but my family never let me get away from the church. My mom doesn't go because her work schedule is too inconsistent to be able to participate, but my dad goes pretty often. Both of them, though, still will force me to participate in holiday events, the most recent of which was my youngest brothers first communion. Immediately, I didn't want to go, because I knew that if I did I would see my grandma, and I didn't want to interact with her because I was scared for my safety. My family forced me to though, since it was important for my brother. I went out, put on my best "I'm 100% a straight male but if I wanted to I could pass as a girl" outfit, and had to go. When we got there, I was greeted by my grandparents, and we went in the church. Guess what was the topic today! How "certain individuals" online, in school, or in your family are tricking your kids and grandkids into leaving god and becoming atheists, and that if you wanted to "save them" you had to sign up for their christian school, that would make sure your kids keep their faith. I was disgusted, I understood the transphobic retoric as soon as he started talking about the school system, and I tried to tell my family when we got home "hey, I'm pretty sure our church is kinda bad, because the stuff they said is kinda transphobic". My mom just started defending them, saying "of course that's not what they meant" and "they're just slightly misguided, that's all". Now I'm not saying my family is awful, but I'm just saying this stuff is so ingrained into the culture of the church, of allowing any priest to just be "misguided" even though they are clearly being transphobic. It's like a shield that protects them, I bet you if they weren't a priest my mom wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt. This was kinda a rant, but I think it goes to show how even supportive christians can be blinded by their complete and total faith in their church.

Hi. I’m an East Asian person. This kind of stuff is only rumors of the west in my country.. I’m so sorry these are actually happening in such a diverse country. It’s terrible. I don’t quite understand much western ideas and trends/identities, so I can’t officially speak for them. But, even though I’m not apart of the LGBTQ, anyone would know that this is just wrong. It’s heartbreaking 💔 edit: excuse some misunderstandings- my English isn’t quite fluent yet. Thank you all for the replies, I will continue to support anyone I see in a situation like this. In Japan, people are shy, and don’t usually lean out to help others in need of it. So suicide and depression is a result. I hope to change that! If OP had been accepted, allowed to talk about how they felt on their sexuality, OP probably wouldn’t need to risk an online space with possible strangers looking to exploit kids. Shutting off that last safe space and saying how OP’s feelings were akin to “being tempted by demons” (making the home environment even more hostile) probably doesn’t do wonders for a kid’s mental health, let alone their relationship with their family.

every time I listen to a story like this, it makes me feel worse about myself for being American. knowing that how much you want to believe there is good in the world, there will always be those who won't listen to reason, and wont understand, and hide behind these walls, and rally those who share their same view. it just hurts, y'know? to just know that there will be people who just use this originally once great thing, and turn it into a place full of anger, and hate towards those that are different. I am happy for Jennifer getting out of that shitty situation, I wish you can grow past your experiences where they don't hurt as much. I wish I can too. edit: it also makes me angry how many of these "programs" there are to degrade children, who need help with understanding. if a parent sends their child to one of these "programs" it just breaks their trust. and it makes it even worse if the "program" lies to the parent about what is happening. such as "we at **** foundation, will counsel your child away from evil" but in reality are doing just what Jennifer went through, or even worse.

This is sad but you shouldn't be sorry to be American, there is a lot we take for granted, a lot that people don't understand. Americans don't know how easy life is even with the stuff we see compared to living in a country like Syria or India or Bahrain or even richer countries. We take the grants we have for granted compared to China, North Korea, and some eastern countries. To be able to marry the same sex person and change everything about your identity as much as you want and have millions upon millions of people accept you is better than getting killed in my experience. Still doesn't excuse the bad things that happen here but it makes things a little better. We as Americans can make our country better. Ensure what one state does our state is different. Things are changing but it's difficult to change the philosophy of 350 million people in just a generation or two. It took 100 plus years to make everyone agree that slavery is bad and we even still have a couple bad apples. But that's just it. A couple so when things like this happen we support and learn and seek out similar situations before they happen.

I'm not trans myself, but I've seen plenty of people that are trans to know you're valid for being angry and feeling the need to defend yourself. I hate that in a society filled with wealth and unimaginable power, we can't understand people just trying to exist and be happy at the same time if it's different from the common template for it. I'm sorry that you have to exist in a failing and willfully ignorant society that would hurt or kill you for merely waking up every day. I'd like to add that being trans is also biological, as well as psychological. A specific part of the Y chromosome is responsible for the formation of the brain in accordance with male or female traits, and a small "mutation," although it makes you no less of a human if you have it, causes said brain to develop as if it were of a different gender than the rest of the body. This is, of course, not at all dependent on whether or not a person is trans, just a fact that clearly shows being trans to not only be biological, but completely factually valid in all respects (it's also been proven that even without this mutation, being trans isn't a mental illness or a facade, according to my friend with a Phd in psychology). Even if that weren't true, you're still a completely normal human being with a completely valid way of life, and I see no difference in you and any other person with your same gender-identity. If you wanna have a conversation, leave a comment on my channel and I'll hook up DMs for pretty much any form of social media. I've got a friend that would really want to meet you, and they have a very interesting gender-identity as well, along with parents that don't understand them. I hope my comment made you at least a little bit happier, and I especially hope that I made you feel a bit more comfortable in your own skin. Keep fighting for your own existence, and always remember that you're just as much of a human, with their own way of life and beliefs, as any other person. I thought about defending regular people that just have a lack of understanding, but they're starting to become a minority to willfully ignorant, vile people nowadays.

I want to add to this and say that based on a lot of things I have seen, I even call into question the validity of people claiming that "they bible says so" about homosexuality being a sin. I did some digging a whileback and found that the word that was referring to gay folks was a very vague term that doesnt even have a conscensus on what it meant. Some say it does refer to gay people, others say it refers to pedophiles, etc. Regardless, the act of translating and editing the bible over centuries has innevitably resulted in things being warped, either unintentionally or to further an agenda of hate. At this point, so much has been changed and translated so many times, we cannot possibly know what was originally in first copies of the books of the bible or not. Call it heresy, but if the word of god is to be warped any more, we should at least warp it in a way that doesnt paint a target on these people anymore.

@@ComradeCorvus Interesting point, though I believe the Bible does make itself clear on the matter. At least three or four times it repeats the term "a man being with another man as with a woman". While I see how that sound vague to an extent, when viewed in the context of the surrounding verse(s) and taking into account that the phrase is repeated in just about the same way instead of finding a different way to word it each time, it's pretty obvious that it's referring to 'two guys getting it on'. I would like to add something though: more than once, the act of homosexuality isn't referred to or condemned in isolation. More often than not it is listed among or followed up by a list of other sins, ranging from other sexual sins to murder and deceit and envy. No one sin is technically worse than another. No one kind of person should EVER be targeted and hated on if another sin (like hate for a convenient example) is being looked over. Besides, all can equally be forgiven.

These videos make me feel emotions that I haven't felt in quite some time, and it's so weird. being raised male and only very recently deciding I was trans myself, I've been trying to let myself not be as closed off emotionally. And these videos always without fail get me to tear up. It's absolutely disgusting what people will do to each other. Her statement of "trying to be comfortable with myself only makes them see me as an enemy" (I can't remember the exact wording but it was something like that) just struck a chord with me because It's just so true.. The response to the email was disappointing. I honestly hoped her mom was going to say she understood why she had to run. Instead I just got the impression that continued contact would be potentially dangerous. This whole story had me shaking honestly. This family - the dad and older brother anyway - sound vicious and hateful. This family literally tortured her with razor blades, hot coals, beatings, 4-hour full-dunk ice baths, and isolation. They're sick in the head while pretending it's everyone else that's sick. I kind of wonder if it'd be possible to get the mom to see the light but the dad fed her the koolaid for decades so that would be a hard task to overcome. But still... Jen wasn't able to share all the things going on from her point of view. She just never had a safe opportunity. The mom might have a revelation if everything that happened was laid out without the shady "it's what god wants" type of talk. I'm pretty sure Christians listening to this story are giving it the same stink eye as atheists - the things this family did are not normal by any Christian standards.

Ah, yes. Im reminded of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well, and how he got the whole village to waterboard her for several days to teach her to stop living in sin with her current 5th not husband. And how Jesus kept screaming profanity and degrading her emotionally. Or when the Pharisees brought the woman they "caught" in an affair, so Jesus helped stoned her to death to save her from her lifestyle. These kinds of people are the absolute worst. All the more because they claim to be doing it for "the right reasons". So do many of history's worst offenders. As a Christian, there's certainly a conversation that can be had about gender identity and LGBTQ + issues and faith. But what's being described here is not a conversation but outright abuse and cruelty, with the wrappings of righteousness. It's not easy following completely everything we're called to be as believers. But this isn't even a mistake, a slip up, or just "falling short". This is worse than the "sin" they're trying to fix. At least the "sin" being committed isn't claiming to be justified by divine order. They needed love, understanding, and guidance. Agree or disagree with their lifestyle and choices, but you don't bring people to faith by rejecting them and submitting them to torture. This is not how you "fix" anyone. Torture doesn't work like people think it does. Total negative reinforcement only breeds surface level compliance, and deep seated contempt mixed with trauma. Not genuine change or repentance.

My brother is been a jerk to me and get mad for every single thing I do. Then came my sister nothing more of social liars to ended having karma ruin her life. Finally, the father was a good parent until the change kicked in. Always makes excuses to my mom just to abuse me. Saying these bad stuff basically ruining my life being a Shut-In. Nevertheless, he doesn't know the pain to have suffered throughout middle to high school. Moreover, I became this empty shell and lost my trust on my father and two siblings. Lost my emotions, trust, individuality, and free will! My mother couldn't do nothing about my struggle. Now I slowly started to recover my 23 years of a broken adult 🙃. I started not wanting to see and speak to my siblings are now strangers. My bond with father was broken and not interested to fix this relationship! So that my story. Feel like being in a persona q2.

Not religion, but people. I’m religious and I find this disgusting and downright abusive. In Christianity, believers shouldn’t do any such radical actions because 1. It turns people away from God and 2. You cannot enact judgement unto others, as that’s God’s role to do and to enact your own judgement is to proclaim yourself as an equivalent to God (which is a sin). 3. Even if homosexuality is a sin, Jesus would still forgive homosexuals if they’re Christian. The notion that any sin leads to immediate damnation is a blatant sign of not understanding Christian doctrine and possibly exploiting religion for personal gain. Blame the individuals, not the group or ideology.

If you want a political example, anti-terrorism and national security focus in the early 2000s led to the patriot act, which has led to a mass privacy invasion, yet it has been proven to be ineffective. Same thing here. Again, you can criticize an ideology, but blame individuals and their biases for their actions, not the ideology itself.

Fun fact (actually not, I'm in both groups): Hans Asperger, the man who invented and patented conversion therapy, started with ABA. That's for anyone mentally disabled, you're spread eagle (sometimes naked, almost always super underage) and if you even breathe in a way that the superior hates, you get electrocuted. Badly. It only came to surface in 2016 with some few survivors who realized their childhood tormenting was in fact inhumane challenged Autism Speaks, who supports a "childrens care center" who had strapped backpacks of electrocuting devices to keep volting kids. Elders also wear these, get raped liek the kids, get brutally starved, anything and everything people fantasize over will be done to these autistic children. And he said it was because you need to make a blank slate to build up a child who will later kill themselves.

I’ve been through ABA before (not the torture kind, I doubt I would’ve survived that, but the ‘modern’ kind for legal reasons, the one where a bunch of people act WAY too nice, so much so that it’s uncanny, and write EVERYTHING you say and do down) I know it’s not NEARLY as bad or terrible but. I was sent there by my Mom, who’s probably been gaslight to believe that showing the “worse” symptoms of autism in public is wrong. All the ABA treatment did for me was give me the ability to bottle up my emotions, which I have kept doing ever since, and I can’t stop it because it’s what I was taught to do. I know it’s not AT ALL as bad as what others have been through, and I’m ashamed that it’s getting to me so much (which is probably not how I should feel, again I was taught that outbursts and showing emotion via body language like Stimming is wrong or ‘distracting’ for yourself and others and could be harmful if it ‘gets out of hand’) I’ve been getting a bit better about being myself recently, but sometimes idk who or what “I” am since I’ve been sorta taught that what I am is wrong and that I should keep it all inside and let it out via breathing strategies (which just don’t work 90% of the time and makes me feel stupid or embarrassed). Anyways again it’s been better, I’ve tried to tell my parents about how bad ABA and other stuff can get, but they most likely think that I’m overreacting (I also have Anxiety). My little sibling is also Autistic, and something that stuck with me recently was when, in a car trip, they would try to talk to someone, only to be barely heard for being too quiet, and then my mother said that the behavior was just “attention seeking”, when it could’ve just been them wanting to talk but being too quiet.

I remember that I was so busy desperately struggling against suicidal depression that by the time I somehow survived long enough to move out, I was a shell of a human being. I respect if you dont support socialist policies or don't like the vibe of liberal governance, and the fact that you put this comment here without hate or prejudice separates you, at least in my mind, from your run of the mill "conservative". Because *this* is what people think of when someone says conservatism. Child torture. Erasure. Hate. That's what the word 'conservative' means to me. So I'd just like to know if that interpretation of the word conservative has ever crossed your mind? As someone who doesn't support the policies of hate pushed by politicians who describe themselves as conservative, what does conservative mean to you? I’m so sorry that you had to go through literal hell on earth just because your family couldn’t accept you for who you are. What your mom said in that last call wasn’t true. That wasn’t a safe place, and you are safer away from them. It’s a real shame that none of them recognized that hurting you in that way was unacceptable and cruel. I am glad that you managed to escape when you could and I wish you well on the path of recovery from all that bullcrap.

Holy fuck I can't even imagine all of that. I was raised in a Christian kindergarten in a Christian country and still haven't come out yet to anyone except a few people online. I haven't watched through the whole video as I'm writing this, but I hope that you're in a safe and comfortable place now since no one deserves to go through all that hell that you did for absolutely no reason. You're so strong and brave for pushing through all of that and sharing your story. Youre valid and inspirational, but if you're one thing you're a trooper.

Today has been extremely weird for me, at two in the morning I found a good label for my gender and finally feel like myself, in school a guy yelled at me for standing up against his homophobia, and was extremely insensitive, and now I sit here heartbroken at this story. Jennifer, if. If you ever see this, you are so brave and amazing. So many people here love you. Today I have gone through many cycles of LGBTQ issues, positive and negative, and I am glad to be in such an accepting area. I hope you can truly absorb the love so many of us feel for you. 🏳‍🌈💕

I’ve never been one to show much emotions when it comes to all the bad stuff in the world, but man, this really got me. The fact that it just hits so close to home) for context, I’m a closeted transfem, and nobody on my family except my oldest brother is supportive of trans people) it just made me cry for the first time I’m a long time about just how truly despicable some people can be, and not feel guilty for ruining people lives “to fix them”. You are an absolute legend, for not only making it through all that, but to still be your true self and come forward about your experiences and show people just how evil conversation therapy is. I hope you’re doing better now

This whole talk got me thinkin' that we should have a bunch of campaigns where you teach people, specifically kids and middle aged adults who have children, how to think rationally, more about science and all that. Basically just educating people on how to be better people. Every time I see a phenomenon where people do bad things because they don't know better, it pisses me off. I am so sure that a lot of the negative things happening in this world done by humans is all just from lack of education. We need to start forcing people to learn science.

But in a lot of places education is a business and therefore it's manipulated in all sorts of ways so the price is way too high, ir's all for profit, teachers lack proper qualifications... etc Ideally yeah what you said should be true but before that there's a lot of proboem ppl need to solve first...

Unfortunately a lot of churches preach to never trust anything but the bible and to immediately distrust anything that doesn't come from the church, rendering direct education near impossible. Subtle long term exposure to a new perspective some times works.

@@FexyVRC conversion therapy involves strapping electrodes on a persons body and gentilia and giving them electric shocks. As someone who went into psychology, conversion therapy is such a dark stain on psychology and medical science as a whole, it is the world's youngest medical science. And it really shows. Every time I hear about it, I die a little more inside, remembering this is one of the atrocities my field of studies has committed, to be fair, many medical sciences have their stains, but given how recent psychology's is in comparison to the majority hurts, especially given that no-one is safe in it, men, pregnant women, children, the physically disabled, the mentally disabled, veterans, it's horrific. Without psychology though, we wouldn't have our understanding of things such as depression, ADHD, Disassociate Identity Disorder, Schizophrenia, or really any mental disorder as accurately, but there are stains that are unnecessary and absolutely appalling, and conversion therapy is certainly one of them.

It shows so much bravery and spirit to never give up despite what you went through and I'm so proud of Jennifer and everyone who has had to endure this trauma and hasn't given up on themself. Whether you're gay, straight, bi, trans, cis, ace, enby, or any other identity, you are valid, I love you, other people out there love you, you'll find them, so never give up. Whoever you choose to be, you deserve nothing but the best. Anybody who's been through trauma, depression, etc. will tell you it gets better eventually. And while no one can say exactly when, trust me when I say it will. My heart goes out to all of you
