"Young men were DRAFTED to Vietnam, ordered by their gov't to go!" Yeah, and they didn't have the sense to skip over the border to Canada or Mexico. Like I said, they aren't exactly over-furnished in the brain department. "During the Cold War, I was stationed in the Arctic Circle, near the USSR border." So not exactly a war zone, eh granddad? Why is it always the folks who never saw combat who are so desperate to get us into the next war?

Do you really think you're defending America by trampling all over the Bill of Rights? To you, the Constitution only matters when people are saying things you agree with. I'm getting kinda tired of scumbags like you who think a half-assed commitment to the US is what makes a real Marine. No wonder we lost in Korea and Vietnam.

Golfing isn’t a sign of wealth, necessarily. Here in the Midwest it’s actually a working/middle-class pastime. I guess it depends on how many public (and affordable private) golf courses there are nearby.
@jonsnor43135 жыл бұрын
Its still often a sign of how wealthy you are, but not always. My uncle who works as a waiter(in a country where it doesnt mean you are extremely poor, but not wealthy either) does golfing as his pavourite hobby. He is by no means rich, but there are still lots of folks who are there because they want to show of wealth an prestige. But you are right, it doesnt mean you have to be wealthy. Also he nearly won a free trip to a luxus hotel in a tournament. With a free luxus suit.
@jkholtgreve5 жыл бұрын
Jon Snor Yeah, that’s why I didn’t include the poor in my assessment. My dad grew up upper-working class (his dad was a skilled tradesman) and played it all through adolescence and young adulthood. When he moved to suburban Chicago he quit but retained his love of the sport. I never understood it till I wound up in his old stomping grounds. You’re right about the wacky class mix though- public courses are a lot like public fishing holes in that they’re some of the few spaces that still have an incredibly wide income representation. But in rural areas the difference between the professional and laboring classes isn’t as stark either.
