So adorable ❤ We are all one ❤️! One of my close friends from school is an Afrodecendent. Her grandparents are from Batticaloa and they used to speak a Portuguese dialect. Also around Balummahara.... i forget the village, there's a hill called කාපිරි කන්ද. Apparently, some Africans who escaped the Portuguese were hiding there.... later they have assimilated into Singhala society. Being an island nation we are really such a mix from everywhere with migration from many countries over hundreds and thousands of years.

11:16 i would like to give you the exact translation of the things that the elderly gentleman said about their ancestors and the history. he said '' our ancestors were brought here by the portugese in the 1500s, then some of them were brought here by the dutch in the early 1700s, then the english around 1800s for military purposes (against sinhalese kings). because of their physical appearance and the color of their skin, the africans were used as a scare tactic against srilankans. so people in srilanka would think africans as cannibals'' (i am sorry to type that sentence but that what the elderly man said exactly). i can understand colonizers spreading rumors about african people like that. but despite that we srilankans don't discriminate against them if you have asked them about their family photos they would have explained that they have had lot of interracial marriages between sinhalese people. i know that because i have watched another video kenyan youtuber meeting this family. in that video they explained a lot about their family relations. nice video guys you both brought lot of happiness for their lives. cheers.

This is a great video... Alot of misinformation in the comments though. Sri Lankans are not Black (Anthropologicaly of African decent). Majority of Sri Lankans are a mix of native tribes dating back thousands of years BC, south and north Indian origin. There are minorities of Malaysian and Indonesian decent, European and Mixed European Decent (mostly Dutch and Portuguese, with some Spanish, German and British). Some of also middle eastern decent (Persian). The Kafirs (which these folks are) are of African and Afro-Portugese decent. Colour is not an issue in Sri Lanka (it's not attributed to race relations). However like most South Asian cultures, some Sri Lankans tend to favour lighter skin tone especially in girls. Doesn't mean dark skinned people are seen as unattractive. Most of those who comment as such are conflating their personal psychological issues with cultural norms. Pleanty of good looking people who are dark skinned and perceived as such. Sri Lankans tend to be very warm towards foreigners. However unfortunately SOME can be racist towards each other. They are pretty thick about it aswell. Especially between the Singhalese and Tamils there's still alot to be mended in terms of race relations. The Brits are mostly responsible for creating this rift during their colonisation. This is not very prevalent in places like Colombo where different races tend to have co-mingled over generations. Overall it's still a great place. It's people just need to realise it's true potential. Be proud of it's shared history and shared culture but realise that it needs to let go of it's past to move into the future together.
