I have been trying this naively in randori, but I get countered hard. Its good to see this demonstrated. I probably just had bad kuzushi.

What ended up evolving was something like a rear-throw makikomi.

Hey, that's not bad! I bet a rear Makikomi type throw using this Ippon Seoi Nage grip produces a big throw.

Do you have a video of this throw without a gi because I would love to see this used in a no-gi situation.because it is such a great throw.

I'll check to see what we have on our Playlists, but I am not sure that we have a no gi O Soto Gari video. It sure would be worth doing one, so thanks for your comment.

Is this not just a osoto hikikomi?
@welcomematstevescott7 жыл бұрын
Do you mean O Soto Makikomi? If so, generally any throw that ends with a terminal effect by the throwing landing on the defender could be called a Makikomi.
@artemvaschenko96537 жыл бұрын
I thought that a makikomi requires both arms to be over the arm; whereas hikikomi is supposed to be underneath the arm grabbing upwards (as if you're going for a seoi nage). I could be wrong though. It is a nice technique regardless, Cheng Xunzhao likes this technique.

Makikomi describes the follow through of the throw. An example is Ko Uchi Makikomi. Thanks for your comments by the way.

I think I say this on all of your videos, but this definitely looks like something I need to work on. I usually have trouble getting low enough for seoi nage, but I like to fake a left seoi nage to keep an opponent on their toes. If I could work in an o soto from that feint too, hmmm. If only the day had more hours for practise (and a supply of good uke).
@welcomematstevescott7 жыл бұрын
That Ippon Seoi Nage grip is a good feint. Your opponent will usually move away-at this point you can pursue with a low or Knee Drop Seoi Nage-or he may try to hop around and in this instance, you can hit in with this side O Soto Gari attack. You're really on the right track and like you say, if there were only more hours in the day to practice!
