Do you enjoying working in your yard and planting flowers? Are you like me and always barefoot? I love it!
@juliemackenzie19784 жыл бұрын
My yard is not as big as yours...but, I do a planter on my deck & 2 pots in my yard...I grow tomatoes & have raspberry bushes & a saskatoon berry bush & rhubarb in my yard...I also grow lettuce & a few herbs. Just enough for myself. I'm an empty-nester & it is so peaceful to sit on my deck & look out into my yard after everything has been planted. ;) I have tulips that come up every year as well...Love those! ;)

I LOVE it! It's amazing what a few flowers can do to an area. I also love hostas. They are so pretty when full and they grow anywhere. I have them around the front and sides of my house. They are the only things I can get to grow in all the shade I have. I like to pot Gerbera Daisies. I have really bad allergies so I can't get anything that has a strong smell. I have a full back yard that I can't wait to start planting. I am hoping by next year I can start. I bought my house 4 years ago and I had 4 huge black walnut trees in my back yard that I cut down (don't judge until you have to pick those stinkers off of the ground). Black walnut poisons the ground and not a lot can grow for a while. I had my ground tested last year and they said by next year I should be able to start planting back there. Do the flowers you potted have a strong smell? I have full sun in my back yard and I like them. Please show us in a few weeks what they look like. I don't plant until Memorial Day weekend. It's going to freeze tonight and talking snow flurries this weekend. Too early yet for us up here in Minnesota. Have a wonderful evening!

Your plantings and yard look so nice! I love my daylilies also! Here is a thought on those "broken bottom" pots, I would move them to the "rock" area where you have those hanging baskets (3), you can bury them a bit and plant in them. You could space them inbetween the hanging baskets....

Hi! I actually moved the broken pots to the front of the house....and sat them on each side of the garage door. I filled them with the same red dipladenias...and they look just fine. Since they are sitting on the concrete driveway, it's ok if they spill a little dirt from the bottom :)

Dear Renee, congratulations to 15.000 followers on youtube! I am one of them :-) While hair salons were all closed because of Corona, and my skunk stripe was growing since February, I experienced a time when I was really going crazy about that. But then it seemed to me way to exhausting to worry about something like my greys. So I decided to stop worring and just let go and ditch the dye. My husband told me since years to do so anyway. After my decision was done I felt like I needed to settle in into my new myself-to-be. So I looked around on youtube about "going grey" and I found you. I really love your way. Your videos are so interesting! I can find myself in the things you share about grey hair (and all the other things too :-)). Your thoughts about greys are making me strong and proud about my own greys. It is so enjoyable to watch your videos that I streamed ALL of them already. You are doing great and you are inspiring! Now I am waiting eyery day for an update of yours - no pressure ;-). Stay healthy (and your loved ones too!) and keep going! Greetings from Germany, Barb

I had to go back and search for this video - so I could send you a comment on something I just learned about planting flowers (or veggies) in pots. I watched this really friendly old guy named Leon, on a channel called Gardening with Leon. He runs Leon's Greenhouses in Kingston, Oklahoma. And he's a wealth of information. Anyhow - I always want to plant flowers around my pool, but never do because I am a slacker on watering them, and they die on me. Leon explains how to plant flowers in homemade "wicking pots". Now, the tubs he uses are not the prettiest, but after a run to Lowe's Home Improvement, I saw that they make attractive planters (large ones too), that are made of some kind of fiberglass or resin. Now, the pots can't be ceramic because you've got to be able to drill one hole on the side for drainage; and the pots or tubs themselves should not have any holes on the bottom. He teaches how to make these wicking planters. And guess what - you only water like every two weeks or so. Yeah. I'm liking that idea a whole lot. And since I remembered that you plant so many of those beautiful flowers around your pool, I thought you might check out some of Leon's videos. He even showed how he helped out a lady in town that tried putting flowers out front of her business, but couldn't keep them watered. He fixed her up, and her plants look beautiful. I always like to pass on something that I find useful that someone else might use too. Looking forward to Spring and Summer. YAY.

This is not related to plant shopping but to get the hair out of your clothes and not in the washing machine put them in the dryer first and spin. Another idea you might try is putting in a dryer sheet in the dryer. Just wanted for a few minutes when your clothes are absolutely full of hair and see if that works. Good luck

Hey Renee, your backyard/pool area looks awesome! I totally understand your choice of flowers, they look beautiful! Just be careful with the dogs around them - dipladenias are part of the “dogbane family”; apparently all parts of the plant are super poisonous for doggos ☠️ But you probably know that, and since you put them in containers I’m sure everypawdy will be safe. 🥰

Oh my goodness!! I did NOT know that!! Never even thought about that because I’ve been planting them for years. My schnauzers didn’t acknowledge the flowers. I’ll keep a good eye on Pollux. Thank you so much for telling me! 😬

Do you trash your pine needles every year and start with fresh? I never heard of using them. You’ll have to take us on a tour at the height of the season when your clematis is in full bloom. Thank you for sharing. It looks so nice. It’s still in the 30s in the morning up here. That’s very unusual. By now our temps should be in the 50 and 60s.

Watching in 2022 looking for ideas. I wondered if things weren't growing in the retained garden because the dogs were using it as a bathroom? I wonder if things will grow now.
