I got a copper flat bar in my box for this reason exactly. Works great for filling bolt holes.

I learned this just recently. Been mig welding a decade now at one place. Used a carbon block to fill holes. Changed jobs a month ago and they use brass.

I belive the "what? No way" is just as much the way you start your videos, even though you know of the trick or not 😋

Yes, this! I ain't buying it, but it takes a real man to admit they are wrong, and and even bigger man to lift others up by pretending not to. None of this "you have done it wrong" pushing people down but rather "I am a craftsman and I didn't even know this" Brilliant. As a teacher I salute you. o7

Ppl can't wait to say "Awwww you didn't know that" or something similar because they need to feel big. There was a time when THEY didn't know and they forget.

I've used a brass golf putter. Sometimes they're cheap at thrift stores.

I use copper. I have a 12x12x¼" thick hunk of copper just for that. And I've got quite a few different lengths of copper from a big 3 phase bus bar. They are 2" wide, 5/16" thick, and from 2" to 18" long. Working as a welder at a scrapyard has its perks. I also have more welding lead than I know what to do with.

I knew about the brass and welding but I never thought of using my brass drift. I think copper also works for that

Use this method all the time when repairing sheet metal. Can also use aluminum as a backer on steel as well if your in a pinch but you’ll have some clean up after though
