Im currently in trade school and this video has helped me more than my instructors have in the 4 months I have been in school.

As an instructor who is covering this material you did a wonderful job. Sent the video to some of my students struggling. Appreciate the feathering mentioned, because it is the most important part for new hands to do. Slows them down and helps the tie in. Keep up the great and informative video.

Awesome video and wonderful explanations (I'm new to welding in my DIY hobby). One really stupid question - why not take a rod, remove the coating and place it in the gap? It's the same electrode, it will weld just fine. Yes, it wastes a rod - any reason why not to use this method?

Fantastic job. Even with a video, the added character makes it a lot easier for beginners to feel comfortable taking in what you have to teach. Also we need a return of Bob video!

I am taking my test in the 19th of April and we only got two days to practice for each position, I think I’ll be fine with the flat and Horizontal but the vertical and overhead is giving me a difficult time. It’s a difficult test

That was an excellent video- you did a very nice job of explaining, really, how to weld with 6010 overall.

Would the procedure be the same if the material thickness is small, say 1/8" plate? Can i just do 1/8" gap and rock it without beveling? I tried with 3/32 6010 and 1/8" 6011 electrode and it looks like it stuck together, but i was not seeing the keyhole; just shoving rod in there.

Learn how to work the rods and understand where you are putting the heat. Stick welding is an art form with just over 30 years as a Boilermaker welder I love stick welding in any position pipe welding is my favourite for sure. 🇦🇺👨🏭

I'm having trouble with starting the root. Am I supposed to start off the tack, long arc, and then push rod down right next to the tack to create the keyhole? When I do that my rod snuffs out. Is this the correct starting technique? Do I just have to adjust how long I hover longer to warmup? My amperage is 80 or so with a 3/32 gap and land. I find that by just adjusting the amps, I need 100 to not stick, but itll just blow a hole after a cm of welding.

Very helpful information….but say you are an amateur with just a buzz box with say 6011…are there any tips for balancing all those variables when you have bigger gaps in power?
@VTdarkangel Жыл бұрын
Learn your machine and pay very close attention to joint preparation. Since you have large amperage gaps, you'll have to adjust your joint prep to fit your machine's capabilities. Once you start welding, the only thing you'll be able to adjust your rod manipulations.

Is 6010 root harder on flat? I don't have an issue with overhead or vert. Flat is not being friendly.
@Useruserusername790Ай бұрын
You've gotten used to welding against gravity. Now that gravity is helping you are just (probably) welding to slow for flat. Turn your settings down to compensate for that. I know I suck at explaining. I can't think of an example to help. But think about the difference of welding uphill compared to downhill. 1 goes against gravity and the other goes with gravity

I’m having a somewhat similar yet different kind of problem and I’m hoping someone could help me. When I’m welding plates (4mm) horizontally everything is going smooth with 100% penetration and the weld is looking nice, I use the same settings on pipes and I keep blowing holes. Anyone have any tips or suggestions on why this would happen?

My Actual Welds are Pretty $hitty....... I feel lucky that i can even sEE the Puddle at Times... I blame it on my 1 shade Non Auto Helmet... So i got a 10 instead of an 11, and also added a cheater glass which i find is great Btw... But sTill, i don't see $hit till i Strike the Arc... And the lil time between seeing with ur eye's, to flipping down the visor or hood, i end up not striking exactly where i wanted because am moving or something... -I did buy a $70 auto helmet at 1st, but the damn thing never worked right from day 1, i never even got to use it for welding, so i smashed it & bought a cheap 1 shade pipeliner Helmet..... (And No they Wouldn't Return.! They Only Said-Sry to Hear That... 3rd Party on Amaz)
