Our educator and advisor, Chris, gave his students a project to build a BBQ Smoker on a trailer.
The purpose of this episode is to document the process, procedure, and precautions taken while building a BBQ Smoker Trailer. This is the first time he has made a smoker at all, let alone one of this scale, and so there are guaranteed to be mistakes made, and learning opportunities for viewers. This is a project to be donated to a local church, who intends to use it for community events; and should provide the opportunity to showcase it being used after completion.

The 'smokestack open and close' is the damper. The handles are an excellent touch, and very much needed.

That was really cool working with the students and building a great smoker! Kudos to you and your students on a job well done! I guarantee that those kids will remember this experience for the rest of their lives! Great Teachers like yourself are getting harder to come by every year.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I really hope the kids are impacted by this class as much as I was as a student of this very program many moons ago.

32 and starting welding school this fall, wish I started at these kids age. All I’ve done so far is bead lines with the harbor freight cheap welder learning on my own. Can’t wait to learn the real deal and start a new career, your videos are very helpful and informative!

That’s awesome. It’s okay to “restart” at any age. Hope the program works out well and you learn a ton.

Don’t feel like that man, I’m 37 and just picked it up also, welding aluminum with the 120v harbor freight welder and a spool gun. Best of luck

Been wanting to build my own. Box store smokers just don't cut it. High-end custom units are pricey.

@@hahaLOLhaha72 true, however, a well built cooker maintains temps much easier. Fewer leaks and better draw make it easier. Cheapies can get the job done of course, but takes a lot more fussing with it.

I never would have used a cutting torch! Plasma cutter? 6in cut off wheels take lot longer but a nice TIGHT gap!!
@chrisewing3272
@chrisewing3272 Жыл бұрын
Why not? The kerf of the torch is only about 1/8”, is very portable, and the doors were sealed with strips over the cuts. The students struggled to keep straight lines, but aside from that it worked wonderfully.

@@chrisewing3272 I'm not much into grinding the squiggly line and cleaning up the slag! I am a certified structural welder that has welded on high rise buildings for 32 years! Retired now! I've always tried to put as less effort as possible into everything I do! Don't make extra work that has to be done! Just an observation!

@@howardjeblim8292 What better way to teach kids about the real world than to have them use oxygen fuel and then fix the gaps? You see inefficiency. I see a great welding instructor teaching what could happen in the real world when the kids get into the workforce.

You'll find that a flat door will warp. You might want to weld some angle iron across to stiffen it.

Possibly over time, but that’s why I made the threaded handle, to adjust for warpage.
