I too learned the hard way that barrel hinges are one direction only. It was when I opened the door on a 1500lb gun safe while it was upside down after a move into the basement (I wanted to remove the shelving before flipping it upright). The door came off. I'm not a fast moving guy, but I was that day, thank God.

I close somebody's gate in west Vancouver a very expensive suburb, and the gate broke while I was closing it and I went and looked at the wall and I showed him just what was wrong with it to a Layman who had done metalworking before and he got the guy to come out to sex it and actually do a good job this time

I appreciate how Austin really emphasized marking your zip disc cuts. Get your marks even all around, score your cuts first, and pay extra attention to your bevel cuts. For anyone watching this who is also into carpentry, but maybe you're not very experienced there either. You can apply just about all of these techniques to cutting beams with just a standard 7-1/4'' worm drive or skill saw. It's not the "wrong tool" for the job, but like in this video a chop saw would have made things a lot easier. You can still do quality work with several different tools. And now I will click that link and try to win myself some 3m abrasives! Best of luck to all of you and work safe!!!

I have Oxy, plasma, Evolution saw, circular metal saw and a small bandsaw. I still cut with a grinder on smaller pieces because it's faster as opposed to pulling the others out.

I went and bought a big bike carrier for my hitch on my van. Unfortunately, the thing is heavy enough that I can't just jury rig something to hold it up out of the way. For $50 worth of materials and another hundred of welding at a heavy mechanic shop, it's going to be a proper holder that I can just bolt to a pony wall somewhere with some concrete anchors and then it's a up out of the way and B I can put all my bikes into it and Come Away with a bit more room in my garage

I live in rural NY-lots of farms around. Farmers break stuff on a daily basis. If you're ok with cow shit go get it!

The downside to them breaking stuff on a daily basis is that most of them has gotten pretty good at fixing things themselves too as long as it isn't too advanced.

@@kundetjenesten With exeptions,there's a big difference between farmers 'fixing' things and things actually getting repaired.

Nice work. I wasn't sure what you meant by "elevation" at the end. Does the place the gate was installed slope?
@AustinHargett
@AustinHargett 2 ай бұрын
The ground was slopped. I built everything on a flat “elevation” so when it was installed the rails were different heights.

Man, I so much wish people around these parts would 'under promise and over deliver'. They all seem to do the opposite: Over promise and under deliver.

You can weld the hinges any orientation. If you wanna weld them upside down weld the female to the post and male to the gate.

Good video I liked it. Question for everyone I’m a full time welder / fabricator I started doing a couple side projects lately really for friends. But I’m starting to get into it more now My question is what is everyone hm barging an hour for side work at work we are around $100-$120 an hour not really sure what to charge I don’t mind giving friends a break and not looking to charge a fortune but hey everything else doubled in price with inflation really $100 an hour seems reasonable I would think $50 an hour at least is fair maybe more or less depending on who or what the job is and how established your business is. What do you all think??🤔
@AustinHargett

I sometimes bid by the job. Which this was more or less. The hourly rate could’ve been better if I worked faster. On larger projects, I do typically charge $100 an hour

@ cool good to hear thanks for the reply. And you video probably took up time too but that’s for a video. Same here I made a couple parts the other day and videotaped it to make a video and my time was like 2 hrs but could have been half the time maybe if I wasn’t videoing. But that’s for me. Good to hear that people aren’t undercutting their work for $20 an hour 👍

@@WojnarskiWeldingFabricaion Video is the worst part of this process. If i could just have my head down and music up, with littler verbal communication. I move fairly quickly, Shouldve waited for a a chop saw blade and made my life easier. -Austin

@ yea I know the videoing part lol doubles your time but we get to enjoy it so thanks. Yea saw blade would’ve helped probably that’s ok though shows everyone that you can do alot of work with just a grinder too👍

Too bad all the fencing and gates are rarely seen in this area. What people mostly do is wooden fences and if someone decides for that, they most probably do it themselves.
