Preserving open RTV,place some plastic sandwich baggie material over the cleaned threads before installing the cap to snug, and then place inside of a good quality ziploc bag, removing as much air as possible and then store in a cool dark place and it'll usually be good for much longer periods of time...

Glad to see that thing back on the roads. You already know this, but just be careful in the rain with that beauty til you get the axle permanently sorted. If you do go through the 'building a rear axle' for it, I vote doing a Truetrac carrier. Helical geared limited slip that won't get squirrelly in the rain. Glad to see my Wag on the shop wall! Maybe I should upload a short walk around video of it on my channel. Oh, and I learned 'stick' on my grandpa's 76 C-10 with the 250 and 3 on the tree. Getting the hang of the 1-2 shift without accidentally grinding reverse took some work.

Posi-traction is GM's name for limited slip. What you've made is a locking... Well, a locked differential. An open diff sends power to 1 wheel with the least grip. Posi/LSD sends power to 1 wheel with the most grip. A locker sends power to both wheels equally.

When this axle leaves the chat, toss in an old 12 bolt, or a newer, better, 10 bolt. The only problem with welded spiders is that you end up changing tires more often. They scrub a lot on corners.

only problem with welding the gears is that it gets a lot harder to get the thing a part once you find the right parts then again you probably better off getting a complete axle probably cheaper than getting all the parts for this one if you buy a partstruck , need to check face to face distance on the axle so you know the other one will fit , you ca weld on new spring perches but the width is kinda important heating it up is a good idea as you need less power melting the metal together dont press youre luck with those burnouts the axle ist good but at the moment its working , havig to replace it now will cost yah
