This week I’m welding the 6” to 8” saddled pipe pieces we fitted in the last video together. Then we are going to cut the top 8” pipe of this custom pipe entrance on a 45 degree angle and cap the ends with plate. This project is the one we dream about and I’m so excited to bring you along.
Next, we will be building the custom gates we are making to match the pipe fence we will build once we are on-site. Seeing all these pieces sitting at the house has been excited to get everything stood up and welded out but one step at a time. Hope to see you back here next week for the custom pipe gate.

How did you layout your end caps? Just hold the plate up there and trace around it? I could watch you torch cut for hours (OH, WAIT... I have.) There's something very satisfying about watching your smooth movements and the steel fall away when you finish that final cut. Anybody else love the smell of burning steel?? I could smell it watching you make these cuts.

I learned something new today, Austin. Pay attention to what you want to weld and pay attention to what you don’t want to weld.... LOL. Been there, done that. Joined that club a long time ago. I once cut a piece of pipe three different times and it was still too short. Cheers! Whipple

There is a tool used to make those various degree cuts on pipe, called a Curv-o-mark. I have one and use it all the time and it makes it a more accurate fit than the way you show and a lot less figuring, it has a body that is placed on the pipe itself and also has an arm that is hinged in a couple places that holds the soapstone and is set by the degree needed at the body at the body that is marked in degrees that is hinged and mounted stationary to the arm. Look it up on google to see a picture. It will work on pipe from 1 inch up to 16 inch diameter and also do the layout of saddle joints by placing the body at different point locations on the pipe to be saddled by folling instructions that is supplied when purchasing.

Hey Austin love your work. Would one of those needle gauge things work. The ones that you can push into an object to get a copy to trace. I've seen people struggle with cutting angles on stuff and it was all because they had their square out of alignment to the section they needed to. You've done this plenty of times so you know what your doing new guys may not get it so easily but. Keep welding.
