This was my first Time ever welding on my car myself. It was a little difficult at first but after dialing in my settings, it was a lot better.
My welder is a Titanium Easy-Flux 125 with 0.030 wire.

A flux core is what I've been using for about 30 years now and I think they work fine. The important thing is is to get out there and save an old car and learn how to get better at doing it in the process. Looking good Sir.

A good way to keep flux core from blowing through sheet metal is to get a copper plate or flatten some piping and put it behind what you're welding. The copper absorbs a lot of the heat so you won't blow through as easily.

@uhusocip

@@Cbasschen just know that flux burns extremely hot since the heat is put in the metal rather than the weld like MIG welding does and since the sheet metal is thin. If you have access to a mig welder, it will make things much easier. Good luck with your build 👍

That's great saving another classic car is going to be back on the road to be enjoying Saturday Sunday cruising 👍🏽 Myself I like 4 doors, my first car was a 1968 Toyota Corolla 4 door. My Pop's bought it as a parts car. I told my Pop's could I buy it off him and I'll fix it up. We rebuilt the 4 cylinder engine. I did all the body work found chrome bumbers for it. I a Kustomised grill shorten a 1951 Buick grill put OLDER BMW bumber chrome guards on the front bumber to look like a 1950 Buick grill. White wall tires, Apple ton spot light's. Light tinted back window's. I kept the stock hub caps but put 3 prong knock offs on the hubs. I have to give thanks to friend's and POP'S buddy that own a wrecking yard that donated parts for the Kustom car build back in. The late 1980s early 1990s all the car shows and cruise's had lots and lot's of fun in that little 4 door Toyota Corolla. For on the cheap or low budget build that was a head turner. If you stay on it and keep to your vision it will get done.

That came out fine. Seam Seal the underneath edge all the way around it. It's the stuff that was used when the car was first built. That should keep out any moisture for a very long time.

There's no wrong way in building your car it's your way of doing it. 👍🏽 Keep up the good work putting the classic car back on the road. I can tell you to watch some video's when you get stuck on what your trying to fix. Everyone has there way of doing it. You just have to stay within your budget. Try to keep the cost way down. Don't try and put in more money than what the car is worth. Don't get caught up in what some one else is telling you what you should be doing with your build!!! Keep on keeping on 💯👍🏽

If you already welded, I was going to tell you to stitch weld the floor pan's don't let it get hot from worpage, then use seem sealer to cover up any holes you might have mist. I don't know why people keep saying it's hard to weld with flux wire? I've been welding with it for many year's, when I use the gas shielded wire my welds come out just that much better. Flux just splatter more and leaves the crust behind just use a wire brush to wire brush it down before you lay another weld on it
@snoopu2601
@snoopu2601 2 жыл бұрын
@@classicpatinas when you use the flux wire, if you don't already know wire brush the weld before you add another weld on the other weld. And stitch weld so you don't cause to much heat at one place at one time. Y'all keep up the good work. Can't wait to see it a weekend driver your going to get lots of smiles and thumbs up 👍🏽

Your floor panel will hold. I would suggest fitting the new metal from the top, and seam sealing the bottom. Another suggestion would be not to remove the rusted panel, until you have fit the new panel. I am glad to see young people learning to revive their own old cars.

Great first attempt man. Once you know how to weld you'll wonder why people mess around with fibreglass and filler. It literally takes less time to do it properly once you've invested in the welder and practiced a bit. This competency will also completely changes your whole approach to restorations - and which cars qualify as restoration candidates. The added bonus is if you know it's done right you can relax and enjoy the car instead of having that knowledge in the back of your mind that it's a bodge job. Congratulations!

Looking good. Practice makes perfect. I find that when making first tack welds if you drag the wire across the opening slightly rather than along the seam between the metals, it helps prevent blow through. (Starting slightly on the solid floor, then across the opening and ending slightly on the patch panel) With the rest of the welds I just start the arc on the end of the first welds and tack normally like you did along the seam, if that makes sense. Cutting the very end off the wire each time will give you more consistent weld and makes it easier to know how and when to dial it in.
