i personally dont like that type of bed, its hard to organize and keep organized, everything gets rattled around and when you have to much stuff in them you literally have to dig everything out of the damn box and shove everything back in. nothing pisses me off more than rummaging through shit, just a waste of time. but honestly it depends on the owner, some guys sort their stuff out better others have a pig pen of a truck

As a welder who has worked in both a field and shop environment, Id say you're tool setup is great for smaller jobs or mainly pipe..But in northern ontario our go to instead of jack stands is chain falls, come alongs, millwright bars, enerpacs, straight edges, and drifts. Our area is heavy mining/construction where parts need to be moved or bent or anything else.. Id say its not a do all box, but its a good start.

Keep the govt job and do portable welding in your locality on the weekends and after work. Plenty of work for a good welder on farms and ranches. Do good work and your name will spread and work will come to you. The gov job is steady work with great bennies. Work in the welding trades can be spotty at times.
