Mostly shot during one day while I was welding the frame and tail of a 3600mm diameter turbine following my own 'recipe'. Showing some of the tricks I use to get the correct angles etc. www.scoraigwind... Nigel drilling and driving tractor.

A but its nice to see good welding, do you weld off grid? I used to weld with three 12 v batterys and a resistor before I had the price of a welder, (still havent..) I hope to live off grid some day. Your turbines are a credit to you, keep up the good work

I would be happy to give you any pointers you needed to help you improve the welds...you are right though...I didn't notice any that you put on that looked weak or dangerous...always helps to prep your weld areas with grinder...then sander...then wirewheel and wirewheel again postweld...a can of anti-spatter will go a long way too

hi mr Hugh in your book you recommend 20 degrees for the tale hinge, on this video is 15 degrees. this is because the area is windy, or there's something else?

Hi Vlatko if you look closely in my book I do recommend 15 degrees for battery charging machines and 20 for grid tie in this size of turbine. Maybe you have a very old, out of date copy, or maybe did not see this note in the text?

Yes, I know, but it's not a welding competition.. It's just a demonstration of what works well enough to last for years using rusty pieces of steel and some very basic skills in a short time. I'd be happy to get hints on how to improve my welding, but I have no concerns about its strength. And the design does not call for any superior welding abilities.

@oilpressing Yes of course I feel good when I do a nice weld. I started out building my own welder using a car engine and some old dynamos (fiun but time consuming to keep it all working) but now I have an inverter welder that runs off a 6kw diesel genset you can hear and see in the background.

How much power does the turbine in w?
@scoraigwind
@scoraigwind 6 жыл бұрын
This one is rated at 1000W. It may produce surges of higher power. But what matters most to people who rely on these turbines is the energy production in low wind periods. And this has very little to do with the maximum power. It mostly depends on the size of the blades and not the alternator peak power in watts. We did study the energy production in some detail for a range of turbines in my Recipe book and you can find the results here scoraigwind.co.uk/measured-performance-versus-recipe-book-predictions/

Thank you. I am now working on a three-phase generator with 32 neodymium magnets 50x25x12 and 12 coils. But for 24v what diameter should be wire 1.8 or 1.6 mm? Please help me if you can.

It's better if you email me or do this as a comment on my blog. I don't really look at youtube very much. If it's 16 magnets on each disk and 12 coils then this is identical to the design I use for the recipe book. The North american version with inches uses exactly this magnet size. It's pretty close to the metric magnets. I use two wires in hand 1.8mm diameter for a 24V battery with this size machine. 37 turns per coil. For 3.6m or 12 foot diameter blades. As in the video. scoraigwind.co.uk/all-of-the-books-by-hugh-how-to-get-them/

I am with oilpressing about weld quality...design is ingenious though...how about some barter...lemme do the welds for you and you help me construct my system...you wouldn't be dissapointed...

YOu can say what you like about my welding but you are missing the point. My aim is to empower people to do stuff that works and discover that they have adequate skills. This wind turbine has worked for years now and I have absolutely no qualms about the welding quality. And this level of skill is not hard for most people to attain. Being perfectionist is un-necessary and disempowering for people. It only serves to stoke your ego and put people off.
