Aerospace welder here. I run 718 all day everyday. Definitely has a muddy puddle feel and hard to made pretty. Cool video man! KZbin needs more content like this.

I thought I had watched all of your videos but when I subscribed to your alloy series you sent me back to these, which add a whole new dimension. This is great. From a practical perspective, I think my biggest problem will be to recognize what metal it is, since engineering drawings will be long gone.

Biggest thing on these metals is heat! great advice. Welds are still too hot if you ask me. To weld something like .032 inconel 718 you would only use about 18 amps. Most stuff on inco is x-rayed, my advice is clean EVERYTHING, make sure your work area is clean, wire brush, scotch brite, acetone. Wipe your filler rod with acetone, make sure your hands/glove is clean, even the smallest amount of dirt can contaminate the weld.

We've just done a WPS for Monel 400 (nickel/copper alloy) to carbon steel (A516-70) using Inco625 wire as using the Monel 400 wire caused micro cracks along the entire length of the weld. Inc 625 really is a weld anything to anything rod!

Hi there, awesome video. Could you please share some tips and tricks for Inconel 718 HIC casting, welder qualification for the OEM approval? I have seen that there is a qualification sample in your video shown at 3:48. Thanks once again

As always, great stuff. Would there be any plans to discuss the machine-ability of different weld processes and consumables? I still recall when I was starting out the machinists cussing the welder when they would have to cut the hard stuff. Course the welder had a special drawer of rod for the guys that cussed him...take pert near a diamond to cut that stuff.

Your videos help me alot. I have a welding test on 90% nickel TIG this week coming up, I can scratch start TIG weld stainless, but my welding mentor told me that nickle alloys are dead, as in wherever you put it, it stays. He said it's hard to move the puddle compared to steel alloys. I'm sure it's harder to weld than what you showed in this video. Are there any suggestions for someone that's never welded nickle (such as don't even try to take the test)?

@j.b.97968 жыл бұрын
welding 4130/4140 chromoly is no different than carbon besides the amperage you run at and most wps's that I've seen require a preheat of about 450 degrees. as far as inconel goes the technique for putting a root is the same as stainless (keyhole dip) just run a little lower.

Hello! I have a problem I need you to give me some advice, hope you can help. It is about Hastelloy pipe (the pipe is purged with Argon inside and is welded with TIG). To support the union of two pipes make some weld points, welding and reach that point it will bloom that is, it explodes and becomes a "crater" (inside). Can you tell me how I can help? Best regards.

Thank you for all the videos and the tig finger...they have helped me with many welding test.. so with that said, I have a question. I’m getting ready to take a GTAW test with inconel 625 filler on carbon pipe. Do you know what UA or AWS test that would be? I’m having trouble finding the specifications for that. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks Dustin

Having never done TIG before, I don't understand the comment "feather the pedal". Do you mean at the end of the bead you slowly let the pedal off so that amperage sags at the end? Does the pedal control amperage?

Helo welder bro. I'm interested in how to connect stainless steel to nickel alloy when i don't know what material that nickel alloy really is. I know only that actual part is rotor from fruit feeder, non magnetic, and don't give sparks when i grinding it. The other part is from stainless steel 304 made as replacement of eroded end. Now i'm asked to connect them together... Have try to do the job with 18-8-6si wire for hard welding materials, but noticed that basic material are acting like silver or so, running away from the weld, and if i do weld it it brakes in the middle... Can I solder it somehow and what is numeric declaration on wire if it's possible? Thanks

Try 309 stainless, or some inconel 625. Brazing would be a good option, too, if the lower strength/adhesion isn't an issue.

I can‘t follow why you are comparing a Steel alloy with a nickel - base Alloy? They are two completly different metal alloys 🤔
