That's awesome Nick. You will indeed see cracks in that concrete - that is what concrete does - it cracks! No worries they will mostly be just temperature cracks with no structural consequence. We've used fiberglass rebar here in Texas on toll roads where the toll gantrys (where they collect the information about your vehicle passing over sensors) are located. That fiberglass doesnt screw up the detection equipment for electronic toll collection - some of which is in the pavement structure. The kids playing in the mud was epic! In no time both you and Scott will be mowing grass in the new yard. BEST WISHES!

Hey Nick, Greetings from Dawson County, Montana!! Thanks for the videos on the construction of your Forever Home. Good for you and your family! Back in the summer of 1988, I was pouring a cement floor for my new garage. Daytime temperatures of over 100° forced me to pour the pad in 4 separate sections in 4 mornings because I feared by pouring everything in one day, the cement would cure too fast in the HOT mid day sun and produce an inferior product. Of course, it didn't help that I poured the cement on my own and would take forever to mix an infinitely small batch using my old-fashioned cement mixer. I had to save $$$ and I figured it wasn't that difficult to do. Not difficult...but...very tiring herding the wheelbarrow to its intended position many times each morning. But you know what, Nick...I'll never forget that job. It was a very satisfying feeling at the end of a long day; having accomplished something very monumental. I had to give up farming 25+ years ago, but I will forever remember these accomplishments with great fondness and enthusiasm. Take care and be safe Nick.

put control joints in the garage floor. No more than 8 feet apart and at an angle off the drain corners. Even with fiber mixed in itll crack. By putting control joints in you can better control where itll crack and hide it in the cuts. only 2 guarantees with concrete; itll get hard and itll crack.

I'm not sure if this is the correct advice due to the underfloor heating you guys have......... I've seen in several videos with people working with modern concrete slabs (mainly professional slab/concrete workers) that don't have expension/stress relief gaps, they use a concrete cutter to score some really shallow lines across the pad so that the concrete already has a slightly weaker spot for it to crack. This way, if your slab cracks, it will crack along that line so you don't end up with a random wavy line crossing a random part of your slab. Again, I only saw this on external slabs and I don't know if it's the correct thing to do with underfloor heating, so please talk to your builder first. I would love to know the answer to if this is something that can be done with underfloor heating. Thanks. Loving this build series 😊👍👍👍👍

why there is such a rough break into insulation? Pretty pointless to have rest of the floor insulation. Ain't no way that is close to being efficient.. Looks like lazy craftsmanship... In Europe if we need a beam in slab, we insulate that beam also.. we even have premade insulation peaces..

I'm Glad to see you and Scott build new much needed houses and I wish I could come and help. But I don't understand your framers. They do things twice and then do it the most difficult way possible. I feel bad for you. I hope you use a vapor barrier on the inside of your walls and ceilings where you aren't using spray foam insulation. It can really help keep your house warmer in the winter.
