I think this was a great musical and they sang the songs much better than they did back then. Alanis Morrisette, Elvis Costello and the others did outstanding work.

Of course Sinatra and Crosby are better singers, but this movie puts the song in proper perspective. In High Society the song comes out of nowhere, and two men start singing about how great a party is when theyre not at a party themselves.
@joryadamson7854 Жыл бұрын
Technically, both of them are at the party
@odysseusrex59083 ай бұрын
On the contrary, they were at the party. They had just withdrawn into the library for a little peace and quiet. The scene ends with them going through the doors and rejoining the other guests.

De-Lovely is the Cole Porter biopic, so it's someone playing the composer and one of his friends, so he's not supposed to sound like Crosby. Porter has never been notorious for his grand crooning abilities.

For those of you still wondering, this is from the film, "De-Lovely," which is a film biography of the composer, Cole Porter. On a ten scale, I rate it a four, but that's just me. I'm sure there's others out there who'll rate it much higher.

Very few people have seen the original. It was written for a Broadway play (and later a 1943 movie with Lucille Ball) called DuBarry w Was a Lady. High Society used in again in 1956.

This is one of my favorites scenes from one of my favorite movies. Pity that everyone I date finds an excuse not to watch with me, lol. A,musical about a gay composer doesn't appeal to many straight men- or lesbians, for that matter. Kevin Kline's performance adds a new dimension to Cole Porter's public legend, and Ashley Judd is stunning and angelic. What's not to like?
@idadudenmanner8 жыл бұрын
You gotta find a musician... Or a hippie. Or a straight guy who isn't from North America. Or a movie enthusiast bc this IS one of those movies that'll catch a REAL movie/music fan and they'll be into it.
@waynej26085 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I thought it was a fine film, superb cast, great production value and Porter's songs were wonderfully rendered by some truly significant artists, like Natalie Cole, Diane Krall, et al. Ashley Judd was magnificent. And for what it's worth, I'm a straight male, from the USA. Just one with good taste. 😎👍
