Also could have been contaminated by water from rinsed glass (unlikely as they probably use fresh glasses) but certainly some saliva even a few drops is proofing it down. Also if this is the standard, they would need to go back and proof every one again to see if they were accurate.

@@Ona1000 my point is that any bottle could have lost some proof to evaporation since the proofing process until the bottle was consumed by them. even a 5 year old bottle may have proofed down even 1 point could be a difference maker

@andykleschick2047Күн бұрын
@ for the sake of points in Badvent it shouldn’t matter. Proof on the bottle (which is legally required on the label when the whiskey was bottled) should be what matters. If you’re going to say that the real proof now of the whiskey is what matters, then you should be proofing every sample to see if it’s changed as that could affect scoring
@mattschmitt9924Күн бұрын
@@andykleschick2047 I agree they could proof all of them, but one would guess that recently government proofed bottles should be accurate to a point. They're guessing proof of what is in the glass not printed on the bottle. Unless rules state guess what the bottle says instead of guess the proof. Really, it's not going to change my Christmas either way.
@brandon_spragueКүн бұрын
@@mattschmitt9924it’s all based on the label. Always has been. Or else we would have proofed every sample to verify. Without blowing up a distilleries spot we have proofed a bottled we just got from them. It was 3 points under the stated proof. I just think some places reuse labels.
@mattschmitt9924Күн бұрын
@@brandon_sprague I didn't realize it was legal to lie on labels. I also wasn't in the room when they came up with the rules. I only heard what they said when they said "guess the proof" they didn't mention the proof on the label. You were obviously there and know more.
@dmh0985Күн бұрын
Sean shouldn’t get the point. It’s like if something is age stated under 6.5, but you’re able to find out that barrel was actually older. It’s based on what the bottle says or you can question every answer.
@ghostshipmurmurs7917Күн бұрын
The point is to guess the proof of what you're drinking, not what is on some label somewhere. Dan refusing to give the point here makes zero sense You don't have to question anything that you can't verify (ie, what the age is on a batch we cannot possibly find information on). But if you have a proofer right there, why not?
