Two thoughts I've had about keeping the front end down at launch are as follows: 1) If you strictly are adding dead weight to the front, make it so it's a lead slug or ball inside a tube, running as far back the length of the car as you want the weight to end up once you have traveled a particular speed or distance down the track. Maximum weight starts on the nose, but moves backward by g-force as you accelerate, to where you want it, weighing the nose down at the beginning, but sliding backward and being slowed/stopped with some adjustability, generating a force which pulls the nose down at a tunable time, according to where during launch it stops moving rearward, kind of like an automatic, momentary tap of the brakes. Angling the tube from as low as possible in the front, up as high as works best once dialed. Any angular adjustability should add some tunablility and make returning the weight to the front easier. Use springs or shock cord or something to stop and reverse the force and direction of the weight, in a controlled way, moving it back toward the front. Make a ramrod to force the weight the rest of the way forward, from the rear, to ensure it is as far forward as possible at next launch. 2) If you want to maximize the weight you need to add to the front, duct powerful, high CFM/low-weight fan/s in the front compartment, so that it sucks large amounts of air from beneath the car, up through the hood/decklid. Straight at the bottom for maximum suction and slightly raked backward at the hood exit for reduced drag and propulsion. Shut it off after launch and reduce drag by using electric rams to close the metal doors you cut out of the hood for ducting.

Whatever happened to the laser system that would cut power if got too high? Seems like a brilliant idea and would save ton of time and money. Edit: he explains later

It wasn't the racing, it was the Taco Bell.

Why doesn’t he just get a wheelie bar instead of adding all that weight?
@petercorrea76454 жыл бұрын
It would put him in a class he can't compete with as the car is fast but not fast enough to compete with a wheelie bar.

kyle - build a mr2 shell on the side - properly get it painted tubed front end and swap all the guts from the white mr2 to the new shell - cage, reinforced chassis get a company to make a skid plate would decrease drag
@470whp-deathtrap4 жыл бұрын
Damn kyle, I hope the hatch ends up as a better drag car than the MR2 has been!

you mean the mr2 is slow..its the second fastes on the world at the moment..of coures it will break stuff, they are pushing that car way past all its intened limits.. im more shocked that more isnt broken on it
@470whp-deathtrap4 жыл бұрын
@@microangle I'm not saying it's slow, I just mean they are constantly fighting wheelies and broken parts. Civics at this point are a much more understood chassis, so hopefully he can get the hatch to go just as fast (or faster) with less broken stuff and hard-to-solve issues👍

That brace you have attached to the bell housing looks like its solidly mounted to the body.. as the engine moves about that will take a massive stress.... possibly put the brace on rubber mounts?

Just a tip. Because I don't isht on people and what they like. But something I figured out a long time ago in 1999 when I was 20 and was done with tech school and building cars. Found this out the hard way and a few really nice cars that were ruined completely. Including my beautiful 2nd gen Rx7 with a Ford Windsor stroker, mini tubs and 10.5 tires me and my buddy Corey built. Japanese unibody cars designed for a little 160hp motor don't last long as drag cars without an extensive amount of work to the frame and Body. And still then it isn't ideal. Making big power you'll eventually break it beyond repair and the next step is you'll either abandon the car or cut the body apart and start laying down a tube skeleton for it. Current examples being your Mr2 and James 240. They all end up like that. If a wheelie doesn't kill them the twisting from launching it will eventually send em to the grave.

the laser requires a lot of tuning and testing or keep going like that and keep breaking it.

The mr2 is definitely getting more stress with the mid engine mount but fixing it up and dialing it in is where you will find it to bust that mr2 world record lol 💯👍👍👍
@socalcasedog4 жыл бұрын
Well that honestly would be an expected break area. The midplate is only bolted to the lower portion of the belhousing. The midplate added rigidity to the engine. the only other place for any twisting energy to go is from the midplate through the trans. Next would be a solid cradle type mount to lock down the trans. After that is gears and axles... 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

That was from the wheelie 100%. Frame twisted and bell housing broke on impact. I had a bad broke bell housing in my jeep and it worked fine for a long time

i imagine it cracked when you came down from mars onto that drivers rear tire

I'm a fan of the Tekton tools. Great for in the field in great cases that actually hold the tools in place.

my guess would be the body flexing and since the plate is/was flat it can flex due to not having reinforcement to prevent its plasticity. yes you have bars to the strut towers but that at the top. could add a custom poured rubber mount to either frt or rear. depends on how loud you want the vibration . idk ask shawn at pfi to help troubleshoot.

I still think the wheelie bar is the only way to keep this rocket on the ground on a budget and tight schedule. RIP bell housing, gone but not forgotten :(
@solatyn4 жыл бұрын
he would have to race in a way faster class with a wheelie bar
@stevenheasley6104 жыл бұрын
For the wheelies... would ya be able to use ballast weights sorta like on sled pulling tractors? I saw your weight bar up front idea back a minute ago. Those tractor ballasts get heavy fast. So trimming and welding or bolt mounting could replace the sand bags with less density. If the blocks are safe....
