Hindsight being 20/20 and all, she would have been fine driving all day. So in this isolated case "most people" would have been okay. Ps I get a shut down alarm and it goes into limp mode if the gas cap is loose. Stupid sensor.

Everything from digging trenches, plumbing, using a backhoe, drilling in rock, adding dynamite, and the best part...blowing up rock. My wife’s Tahoe 5.3 did the low oil pressure thing. I replaced sending unit and screen fixed it for a week then started doing it again. I replaced the oil pump and oil pickup tube o-ring (also added the second bolt to pickup tube). After a few weeks starting doing it again. I finally fixed it by replacing the oil pressure relief valve (in the oil pan next to the oil filter). When the motor would go into 4 cylinder mode the relief valve would let off some pressure but then would stick open causing low oil pressure. I have put over 90k miles on it since then.

My 5.3 has done that multiple times. Last time I stuck a clear hose in the threads of the block, with the screen out of course unplugged the coils and cranked it over until I purged about 3 quarts of oil. Put it back together and haven't had a plug up since. Flushing that oil galley out was key. Great video guys.

Got lucky on the motor Paul. My sister bought a '86 K20 a couple years ago. She wanted to build it and have a good 4wd. Was told the motor was locked up. She bought it for $300. When I was working on it I figured out the ac compressor was locked up and the belt was so tight it was holding the motor. Took the belt off and motor turned freely. The poor truck sat for 13 years on a misdiagnosis. We swapped the motor anyway. It was a 292 and she wanted a 350. Sometimes you get lucky. Take care Paul. Love your videos.

I got bit by those convertor bolts just a few years ago. Had a bad knock like that, and starting pulling the engine apart to go through the valve train and checking things out. Get to a point with everything off and go rotate the motor by hand to check for damage to the lower end. And it STOPS hard at one point. So go 360 the other way and does the same thing.. Finally pull the cover off and sure enough, bolt is lose and hitting... Tore it all apart for nothing.. But at least it got new gaskets and timing chains.. (Jeep 4.7)

Years ago my dad's 76 Silverado started knocking like crazy at idle, and got to the point that it sounded like it was gonna toss its rods as any moment, but smoothed out as rpms increased. It also leaked oil from every gasket. We prepped a new heart for her and found the source of the knock wasn't the rods at all, dust shield looked the same as yours, however it wasn't the torque converter bolts. The fly wheel ended up being broke between all but 2 flywheel bolts.

I have done this a few times on Chey 5.3L engines those sensors are garbage. My first step is a RotoZip bit in my Dremel to cut that "noise shield" plastic cover that blocks all access to the sensor. Shop manuals call for removing fuel lines, vacuum lines, etc, you just need better access. After that it is easy to remove, I also use a 5 inch long 5/16" fine thread bolt to gently engage the filter and remove it just like Paul did, works better than a pick. Excellent job Paul!!

I need to change the oil pressure sensor on my Suburban, thanks for the bolt trick!

I had a 2007 Acadia and the oil pressure issue ended NOT being the pressure sensor/switch. Our engine ended up going south due to loss of oil pressure. Believe it had to do with failed oil pump.

I've personally done the oil pressure sensor on my '03 Tahoe with a 5.3- twice! Its about the same setup as this. Its definitely a "do it by feel" job. I never could get the filter out, but that bolt trick looks slick!

It seems sad that you have a part that has to be changed more often than a spark plug. Therefore it should be more accessible

@@davidclemens1578 The first replacement oil sensor (from O'Reillys) malfunctioned in less than a year, and so I got a a warenty replacement. Generally they should last >100k. It actually only took maybe 20 minutes the first time, and maybe 10 the second time at the most.

@@davidclemens1578 I think the attitude at the dealer is that it is easy to access... on an engine stand!! They don't want you to work on it to begin with. I used to enjoy working on my 240Z cars; I had several many years ago. The most complicated electronic device in the car was the radio. I could pull the tranny to change the clutch by lowering it onto my chest, rolled a bit to one side and slid the gearbox out from under the car. The whole clutch job didn't take more than a couple of hours and that included cleaning everything while I was down there. Then some "Smog Engineer" discovered the "Computer" and the rest of the story went straight down the toilet!!

Good jobs on fixing the Yukon but you missed the drivers side brake light. At 3:48 it is not on. Great videos. Looking forward to the tow truck upgrades.

Good eye! ... I had to stop the video and advance it one frame at a time to see it. While doing that I was able to see that the 3rd light actually comes on 1st and then 2 frames later the other one lights up.That was good comparison of the speed of LEDs vs incandescents.

Paul I am the same. I hate working on new stuff! I can't even reset my wifes 2019 Subaru TPS sensor when i swap seasonal tires. Love my 2004 TJ click ignition 3x spits out codes on odometer thats about as advanced as I like it. My 1981 El Camino with a 350 is the sweet spot but cut my teeth on a 1979 280ZX with an inline six which is why I took to my Tj so quickly.
